Chapter 2633 Erudite District
Chapter 2633 Erudite District
The Amber Light Fireflies were known for their exceptionally long lifespans, living thousands of years—far longer than common fireflies. At the same time, they were exceedingly rare, with only one being born among millions of other firefly beasts.
These rare insects fed exclusively on the high-quality sap of Immortal Fruit trees, making them incredibly difficult to raise. While some immortals kept them as pets, it was common to see just one or two in their cages.
As such, seeing so many of them here was nothing short of astonishing.
"How are there so many staying in the lamps?" Lin Mu wondered aloud. "I'm sure the lamps were empty during the day."
It wasn't possible to simply confine Amber Light Fireflies in lamps. Despite their delicate appearance, they were Immortal Insect Beasts. While weak compared to other beasts, they could easily drill through steel plates. A paper lamp would be no obstacle.
Lin Mu observed the lamps closely and noticed there were no reinforcing or imprisoning formations etched into them, meaning the fireflies stayed there of their own free will.
"Ah, yes, the Amber Light Fireflies are another export of Ram Orchard City," Daoist Chu explained. "The majority of the fireflies you'll find kept by cultivators as pets come from here. They thrive in this region and breed well.
"As for how they're in the lamps," Daoist Chu added, pointing to the base of one, "they're simply feeding."
Lin Mu followed the direction of Daoist Chu's finger and noticed a small opening at the bottom of the paper chamber. A few spoonfuls of sticky fluid dripped from the opening, pooling gently at the bottom.
The Amber Light Fireflies swarmed the fluid the moment it appeared, eagerly licking it up with great gusto.
"Oh, so they're all just feeding areas for the fireflies," Lin Mu surmised.
"Exactly." Daoist Chu nodded.
The group continued strolling through the glowing streets of Ram Orchard City, marveling at the vibrant atmosphere.
Buildings gleamed with golden and silver accents, their rooftops outlined by glowing inscriptions that sparkled like constellations against the night sky. Shops and stalls remained open late into the evening, spilling warm light onto cobblestone streets. The air buzzed with the lively chatter of night patrons.
The architecture of the city was remarkable, with buildings seamlessly blending into the surrounding trees and foliage. This harmonious design made the structures look as though they had sprouted naturally from the forest itself.
The enticing aroma of roasted meats, sweet pastries, and exotic spices wafted through the air, mingling with the faint floral scent of garlands draped along the streets. Overhead, the night sky stretched wide and clear, stars shining with a brilliance that seemed almost otherworldly.
"It's beautiful," Lin Mu murmured, taking in the enchanting sights.
Daoist Chu grinned. "You haven't seen the best part yet. Come on."
Intrigued, Lin Mu followed Daoist Chu deeper into the city's mesmerizing nightscape.
After a short walk, they arrived at a wide street, about a hundred meters across. The area was lined with an eclectic array of establishments.
Tea houses dotted the sides, where patrons sat playing games like Weiqi, Xiangqi, Chess, Mahjong, and Dou Dizhu while sipping fragrant tea.
Calligraphy galleries showcased the exquisite works of artists from within the city and beyond. Visitors could view the masterpieces or even demonstrate their own skills. Particularly impressive artists could earn a chance to have their work displayed or sold on the spot.
The street also boasted painting galleries, sculpture halls, and conservatories where artforms were celebrated and refined.
Bookshops, libraries, and other literary establishments lined the street as well, catching Lin Mu's immediate attention. His eyes lit up with interest as he took in the sheer number of places dedicated to knowledge and creativity.
"This is District Seven, more popularly known as the Erudite District," Daoist Chu announced with a satisfied smile.
Lin Mu turned in a slow circle, drinking in the sights.
"It's amazing," he said simply.
"It's the perfect place for you, isn't it?" Daoist Chu smirked.
"Indeed," Lin Mu nodded.
"Well then, go ahead and enjoy yourself," Daoist Chu encouraged. "I have some matters of my own to attend to."
"Amitabha, this monk must also visit the local temple," Monk Hushu added solemnly.
"Very well, we'll meet up later," Lin Mu replied.
With that, the trio parted ways, leaving Lin Mu free to explore.
He had a hard time deciding where to start, so he turned to Little Shrubby.
"Where should we go first?" Lin Mu asked.
"Mmm, that place," Little Shrubby mumbled, pointing a paw lazily while yawning.
It was clear the little beast was still recovering from the large meal earlier.
"Alright," Lin Mu said, glancing at the building Little Shrubby had indicated. It was relatively small and unassuming compared to the other establishments.
The three-story structure combined elements of a tea house and a bookstore, exuding a quiet, welcoming charm.
"Doumen's Book House," Lin Mu read from the wooden sign above the entrance.
Inside, the book house was cozy and tranquil. Only two of the seven tables were occupied, and each had a lone patron engrossed in their reading with a pot of tea beside them.
A young woman in her twenties greeted Lin Mu warmly as he stepped inside.
"Welcome to Doumen's Book House. I'm Dou Qi," she said with a gentle smile. Her pink and white robe complemented her neatly styled hair, which was tied into two cute buns.
"How may I serve you today?"
"What do you have?" Lin Mu asked.
"We have a wide selection of books for you to browse while you enjoy our finest teas," Dou Qi replied proudly. "My grandfather personally grows all the tea we serve here."
"Very well. I'll take whatever tea you recommend, and I'll browse the books," Lin Mu said, nodding.
"Please take any seat you want. You can also go upstairs, we have more books there though the third floor is restricted as it is our residence." Dou Qi stated.
Lin Mu nodded and began to take a look at the books on the ground floor first.
