Chapter 2634 History Of Ram Orchard City
Chapter 2634 History Of Ram Orchard City
The book house had a lot of books on the first floor, and all of them were organized neatly, despite being packed quite tightly. The space between each row of shelves was barely wide enough for one person to walk through. For someone of larger stature, they might not even fit in the narrow aisles.
But that didn't matter to Lin Mu, and he began to browse through the books.
The shelves were arranged by categories, with sections ranging from history, geography, and economics, to lifestyle, trade, travelogues, and even some storybooks. Lin Mu started in the history section, considering it a good place to begin. There were books about the history of Ram Orchard City, the Shanxi Empire, and even the entire Jui World. There were also books about the history of the Immortal Realm itself—most of which Lin Mu had already read in other places.
'Should start with the city, I suppose,' Lin Mu thought and picked up the first book.
The book didn't list a specific author and was actually published by the city authority itself. It was the 108th edition.
"Guess they keep this updated," Lin Mu mused, noting the freshness of the book.
Opening it, he began reading and learned more about the city.
Ram Orchard City had been created about three hundred thousand years ago, which wasn't particularly old for a city of such size. However, before it became a city, it had served as the base of a large sect called the Hundred Petals Sect.
This sect specialized in growing Immortal Herbs and Fruits. From what Lin Mu read, it was a very successful and wealthy sect until a few hundred years before the creation of the city. According to the book, they managed to grow a very special fruit that triggered a large-scale conflict.
There was no specific information about what the fruit was or what its name was, but it was said to allow one to directly reach the Peak of the Immortal Realm and grant at least a hundred thousand years of longevity upon consumption.
The sect tried to keep it a secret, but, inevitably, information about the fruit leaked.
Reading this, Lin Mu couldn't help but widen his eyes.
'Is this an exaggeration?' he wondered, having encountered many such accounts before.
Most of the time, historical records would become obscure, and through word of mouth, things would grow larger than they truly were.
The conflict that ensued was massive. Many sects, all desirous of the fruit, came to claim it. The Hundred Petals Sect found itself unable to defend against so many enemies and was on the verge of losing everything when someone from within the sect consumed the fruit to prevent it from falling into the hands of others.
The consumption of the fruit led to an immediate breakthrough and triggered a heavenly phenomenon.
It was actually this side effect—the heavenly phenomenon—that caused a great forest to grow over an area of about seven hundred kilometers. It was written that the power of the fruit was so overwhelming that even its residual energy was enough to bless the land.
This was the reason why Ram Orchard City became what it is today. Even though the Hundred Petals Sect was highly skilled in growing and cultivating herbs and fruits, it was nothing compared to the magnitude of what occurred after the fruit was consumed.
The person who had eaten the fruit managed to escape and was said to have taken the legacy of the sect with them. The Hundred Petals Sect did eventually fall, but rumors persisted that its legacy was reborn in another world by the will of the person who consumed the fruit.
After the fall of the Hundred Petals Sect, the other sects were left in a state of confusion. They had invested a great deal of resources and manpower into obtaining the fruit, but now that it was gone and they had lost so many members in the battle, they had to recover their losses somehow.
This was where the blessed land, made fertile by the residual energy, came into play.
However, no single sect could claim ownership of the land. As a result, they reached an agreement and established a joint authority.
Through their collaborative efforts, the first city was created, and it was named All Sect Orchard City.
"Huh, so Ram Orchard City was renamed later… I understand the orchard part, but why 'Ram'? I didn't see any symbolism related to a ram anywhere in the city," Lin Mu wondered aloud.
But the answer came soon after, as he read further.
The first few decades after the establishment of All Sect Orchard City were peaceful, full of prosperity. All the sects profited from the Immortal herbs and fruits that grew within the city's territory. But after a hundred years, tensions began to rise.
Various factions within the alliance grew greedy, wishing to claim a larger share of the profits and to control the cultivation of the herbs.
This greed led to further conflicts. Small battles between the sects occurred both within the city's territory and beyond. While this wasn't ideal, it continued until it eventually damaged part of the great forest.
Unknown to the sects, a certain beast had resided in that part of the forest for a long time. The beast, furious at the damage done to its home, went on a rampage, destroying anything that stood in its way—be it people, buildings, or sect forces.
The sects tried to vanquish the beast, but it was not alone. The beast was a leader, and it commanded a herd of beasts that rampaged alongside it, overwhelming the sects' forces.
Eventually they realized that if they didn't deal with the problem they might end up losing a lot of the forests full of Immortal herbs and fruits to the damage.
As such they employed the help of great beast tamers and after a lot of effort managed to placate the beast.
It was an intelligent immortal beast, the Deep Wood Ram!
