Chapter 988: Rudeness
“That doesn’t sound much like a punishment.” Renoir sighed. “You know what, if you just wanted to piss me off, you were very successful, you damn idiot.”
Hearing that, both Rael and Nyx froze. Obviously, they knew that he was an idiot, but for him to say something like that to his own sister, it felt like he just wanted to be hated.
Was there anyone who actually liked being hated? Was he some sort of masochistic idiot with no brain? Whatever the case was, Rael wasn’t convinced that this guy was serious. But seeing how he conjured up some mana in an attempt to push her away, his intent was clear.
However, before either Rael or Nyx could chime in, Melissa suddenly took a step forward and, with the full brunt of her momentum, delivered a powerful backhand straight to his jaw, sending him flying into the walls of the mansion.
But like the gentleman that Rael was, and definitely not a person who just wanted a roof over his head, he went ahead and eliminated the shockwave, as well as the possibility of Renoir colliding with anything and destroying his home.
So with that now avoided, he focused on their interaction once more, pushing Renoir back toward Melissa. But for some reason, instead of fighting back, he was just staring at her blankly, rubbing his cheek as he seemed to be radiating an aura of someone being incredibly pissed.
“That wasn’t very nice to say to your sister, you know?” Melissa said, taking a step forward. “For one, you owe me a lot for saving your ass in the past. And now what? You’re pulling this kind of shit even when I’m acting nice?”
Renoir scoffed. “So what? You expect me to abandon my pride just because you helped me some time ago? No. I don’t want that, nor do I want you to—”
“Let’s not say something we’ll regret, shall we?” Rael said slowly. “And for one, I don’t want you to spill tears on my fucking carpet. I know I was the one who invited you both, but have some common decency.”
With that, Rael turned toward Nyx, asking for her help:
“Knock some sense into them. Not literally, of course.”
And she thankfully knew what he meant.
“Alright. Well, for starters, you two are siblings. So treat yourselves like siblings, and not some strangers. Sure, you haven’t met in eons, but you’re not allowed to say that you’re humans. You’re both beings of incredible origins.”
She turned to Melissa. “You’re a what? A literal shadow? Or are you considered the epitome of all shadows? Where’s your physical form?”
Hearing that, Melissa didn’t answer. And so, Nyx turned toward Renoir.
“As for you, what even are you? Did you turn yourself into a construct? Hmm… Yeah, you’re something. Definitely not human. Neither of you are. If anything, Rael is the most human one here, and he’s not even considered a god anymore. He’s essentially the ruler of everything.”
Of course, to Melissa and Renoir, that sounded like a load of bullshit. They had met and talked to Rael plenty of times, and although he seemed a bit more powerful… Being the ruler of everything? Heh. As if someone like Rael could become that powerful.
So despite those words flying over their heads, they did understand what else Nyx was trying to get at. They weren’t human, but they were acting like two spoiled children. Alas, realizing that they were appearing like complete buffoons, Renoir was the first to straighten up.
“Ahem… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean what I said. All I wanted was for you to know you shouldn’t trust me again, since odds are, I will hurt you again. I always hurt everyone I even remotely get close to, as you can probably already tell.”
Afterwards, he turned to Rael. “As for you, I don’t like what you did. I’d fight you over it, but from the looks of things, you’re a little stronger than me now. I’d much rather not have my ass beat. But still, do know that I hold grudges, and with my eternal lifespan, those grudges will come back and bite you in the ass.”
Rael just raised his hands in defeat, not saying another word. Sure, he didn’t mind being the sacrificial pawn in this scenario, but come on… He was just trying to fix shit, not stir shit this badly.
Anyways, it seemed like no matter what he did, he would come out as the villain, so instead of trying any more, Rael just went ahead and proceeded to ignore every insult thrown at him.
Finally, Renoir seemed to calm down as he addressed Melissa once more.
“You can name my child whatever you want. But as for training, you can only train it under my supervision. If you break in and try something, I won’t hesitate to end your life, Melissa.”
She stared at him for a moment, then scoffed. “It’s good that we are in agreement. Now then, if you wouldn’t mind, I’d appreciate it if I could meet your wife now. I’m curious if she’s the same as she was all those years ago.”
Renoir’s brows twitched. “Sure. But if you say some stupid shit, I’m going to evaporate you. Now, if you’ll excuse us, Rael, we’ll be taking our leave. And as for you, woman. I don’t know what you see in this bastard, but I would pack my bags and leave.”
“Yeah, of course you would,” Nyx shot back with a chuckle. “Don’t stumble on your way out. Also, invite us to the baby shower. Rael might’ve been the reason your wife’s pregnant, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have the option to… Well, you know.”
With that, Renoir and Melissa finally vanished, not saying a single word, leaving just Nyx and Rael behind.
“Hm. Well, that wasn’t as eventful as I thought,” she said, turning to him. “How about now, we go deal with the other Melissa and Altros then?”
