Chapter 767: Her Childhood
Chapter 767: Her Childhood
“Yeah? In that case, did you have any siblings? Parents?” Rael asked, his eyes sparkling.
Seeing that, Nyx let out a sigh.
“I had an older sister at some point. Unlike me though, she was a normal human without a system, so I eventually outlived her. As for my parents… Well… I didn’t know them much.”
She leaned back slightly.
“I was orphaned when I was just two years old. I only remember my older sister, since she’s the one who took care of me until I came of age. That’s about it when it comes to my childhood. It’s not as interesting as yours.”
Rael tilted his head.
“I find it pretty interesting. Also, whenever someone downplays their childhood, I always have a feeling that their childhood is actually very interesting. Obviously, most of the time, they just have some scars they’re not trying to tell me about, and I just end up seeming like a douche.”
Nyx let out a chuckle.
“Well, yeah. I can’t say I have many scars from the past. I guess… Since my older sister was the type of person to put others before herself, she always put me first. And so, she never found a man to settle down with, and she died alone.”
She nodded.
“That’s probably my biggest regret. Relying on her too much.”
Rael could understand it.
And honestly, as much as he wanted to sympathize with her, he couldn’t.
His childhood was just a back and forth between happiness and the trauma of being compared to his sister.
But… In a perfect world, he would’ve taken care of Melissa for a very long time.
Then again, he wasn’t perfect.
He was stupid.
“Your sister must’ve loved you very much.”
Nyx smiled.
“That she did. She got me presents on my birthday, and she even beat up all the people who tried to bully me. Despite not having a system, she was pretty capable.”
“Heh. She must’ve been a real badass then,” Rael remarked. “Though I’m kind of curious. How did you go from a simpleton to an Ancient Primordial?”
Her brows twitched slightly.
“Who are you calling a simpleton?”
Rael avoided her gaze, and so she soon continued.
“I became an Ancient Primordial because I had depression. As ironic as it is, I didn’t get out of bed after my sister died, and so I eventually fell asleep.”
“I slept for many years. Honestly, to this day, I have no idea how long I slept for. All I know is that because of the system giving me an increased lifespan, by the time I woke up, the world had gone through several eras, and my sister’s grave was replaced by a huge mountain.”
She raised a finger playfully.
“Life’s full of coincidences. I walked around, got bored… slept. Repeat that a couple thousand times, and eventually, the universe itself is going to call you lazy. The universe wanted me to move, so they gave me power while I slept. Even so, I continued being lazy, switched worlds, and slept…”
“Honestly, at some point, I just began sleeping in the vacuum of space, since space itself didn’t harm me anymore. That’s probably when I slept the longest, because I remember that two universal wars happened while I slept.”
Rael just stared at her wide-eyed.
She was right when she said life’s full of coincidences.
Because as much of a lazy bum as he was in his past life, all he got in return was a message from the yakuza telling him to get his ass moving, or else they would harvest his organs.
In a way, he was a bit jealous that she had enough freedom to live life by literally being lazy, even going as far as eventually getting enough power to be considered one of the strongest beings in the universe.
Though, as much as he admired that kind of era from an outsider’s point of view… If he looked a bit closer, it was a bit sad because of how lonely Nyx had been all that time.
All because her sister had died.
Rael let out a sigh and glanced at the sky, where the phoenixes had increased the intensity of their attacks.
He would really love to just go out there and clear his mind a little bit, but… He was being limited by the trial.
“You don’t have to feel bad on my regard,” Nyx chimed in. “I did everything because I wanted to do it. And as much as you’d like to argue with me about it, sleeping is fun. Imagine falling asleep and becoming a god in your own world. It’s fun. Very fun.”
Rael rolled his eyes.
“Fair enough. But you do know that I won’t allow you to be a lazy bum while we’re together, right?”
Nyx raised a brow.
“Not even weekends off?”
“Weekends? Do you think you’re working a 9-5?”
She let out a chuckle and finished the rest of her tea, then slammed the cup down on the table.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to be lazy. My days of being lazy are over… For at least the next five years. Maybe two years… One year?”
Rael wanted to step up and bonk her over the head, but he knew that if he were to do that, she might just place a nuke in his ass like she had done to the clone.
So, like the big chicken that Rael was, he just let her mumble to herself as she eventually brought the date of her laziness from a year all the way down to two minutes.
And the moment the two minutes passed, Nyx dozed off in her chair, literally falling asleep with her mouth wide open and drool leaking out.
She was very silly at times like these, but since she looked very comfortable, Rael didn’t bother to move her aside and instead allowed her to have her peace and quiet until the trial ended.
On the other hand, Rael decided to meditate to pass the time.
