Chapter 766: Tea Talk
Capítulo 766: Tea Talk
BOOOOOOOOOOOM!
BOOOOOOOM!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
The barrier Rael had created thundered from all the fireballs striking it.
Thousands of explosions resounded, and some of the explosions even affected the people down in the city, causing some of their ears to bleed.
But that was only the case in the initial blast and round of explosions, as just a few minutes later, the people grew accustomed to the explosions and barely even reacted to them.
Once they realized that the explosions weren’t actually hitting them, a look of relief appeared on everyone’s faces as they stepped outside and cheered at the unknown patron’s help.
The patron, being Rael, just sipped on some tea and watched the sight with an amused expression.
Just then, Nyx reappeared and sat down beside him with a bored look.
“Do you think it’s really going to go this smoothly for the entirety of two hours?” she asked.
Rael shrugged.
“I hope so. I can’t see what the phoenixes might do differently.”
She hummed.
“It’s not always the phoenixes that cause all the trouble, you know?”
Nyx pointed at the idle dragons on the walls.
“How long do you think it’s going to take before they get bored of hiding here? You should know the nature of dragons well enough by now.”
She was right…
If Rael had to guess, the dragons felt like they were being disrespected.
After all, which proud warrior wanted to be protected by some random nobody?
Since Rael was that random nobody, he knew how it would go.
And as expected, within a minute of that thought, the first dragon made its move.
At first, it tried to walk along the barrier, but when it realized that it was just a one-sided barrier, it quickly stepped through to the other side and began flying up to the sky toward the phoenixes.
Upon seeing that, the phoenixes laughed at the dragon’s insolence and, without hesitation, directed their rain of fireballs onto the dragon, who could do nothing but tank hit after hit until ultimately falling.
As Rael stared at the lifeless dragon that collapsed onto his barrier, he thought that would be the end of it.
But that seemed to do nothing but spark the motivation in every single other dragon present, as in unison, they flew through Rael’s barrier and engaged with the phoenixes in the sky.
Rael watched all of this with a disappointed expression.
After all, the phoenixes greatly outnumbered the dragons.
So the dragons were being killed off incredibly fast, while on the other hand, whenever a phoenix died, another phoenix stepped in, retrieving the dead phoenixes and taking its place.
But soon after, that very same phoenix that was killed had returned to life with the help of some kind of rebirth ability that probably every single phoenix had.
That would definitely explain why after nearly 10 minutes of this, not a single one had died, while on the other hand, the dragons suffered greatly, to the point they had no choice but to retreat back into the city.
However, since Rael didn’t like taking any half measures, he was definitely not about to release the barrier for a moment so the dragons could get in.
And so, when the dragons slammed into the barrier and realized they couldn’t get in, they frantically looked around. Only a few seconds later did they realize that the moment they left the barrier, their fates had been sealed.
The corpses of the dragons soon hit Rael’s barrier, and he didn’t even bat an eye at the sight until there were no more dragons remaining outside of the barrier.
As for those on the inside, they were too frightened to do anything, so like the smart dragons that they were, they descended from the walls and bundled themselves up into the kingdom’s bars.
“Well… I guess you were right. That was about 5% worth of casualties, I think,” Rael said.
Nyx nodded.
“That’s right. I honestly thought you’d let them in, though.”
“And have the other dragons think they’re safe to throw their lives away and then retreat? No thank you,” Rael replied honestly.
She chuckled at his words and sipped on some tea.
For the next couple of minutes, only the dulled-out sounds of the explosions from above resounded, as well as Nyx’s sipping.
Although the silence was nice and comforting, Rael felt like speaking up.
“Say… How was life a few eons ago?”
She raised a brow.
“Is this your funny way of calling me old?”
“Not particularly. If anything, you’d know if I was calling you old. In this case, I’m just a little curious.”
Nyx stared at him for a few moments, then shrugged.
“It was honestly the same as now. The universe is very big, much bigger than you imagine. Also, with so many endless wars, the technology just kept on resetting. We didn’t really get to a point where we really had anything interesting going.”
Rael hummed in amusement.
“What’s the dumbest reason a universal-scale war had started?”
She thought about it for a moment, then chuckled.
“It was a pretty short war, but one time, one of the Rulers of the Cosmos accidentally spilled spoiled milk over another Ruler of the Cosmos. That happened in front of a large audience, and even though it was stupid and unprofessional, a fight broke out then and there, wiping out several galaxies.”
A faint smile appeared on her face.
“The fight only stopped when the two of them realized how stupid it was. So then the two of them united and decided to repair every damaged galaxy and revive everyone who had been killed in their skirmish.”
A universal battle due to spoiled milk, huh?
Rael let out a chuckle and settled down, drinking some of his own tea peacefully.
“That question was a bit random,” Nyx said.
She leaned back and kicked her feet up on the table.
“If you’re so curious about my past, all you need to do is ask.”
