Chapter 4707 An Assailant
Chapter 4707 An Assailant
Fairy Thunderblaze instantly flew out of her tent within the huge tree cavity that was like a dome as it eclipsed above in a cylindrical shape. Golden divine lightning sparkled from her purple-crimson-robed figure before she waved her hand, launching a swift yet decisive attack that was full of suppressed fury on the assailant.
From a spark, a piercing arc of golden divine lightning shot like a spiral.
The assailant quickly tried to dodge to the left by pouncing and rolling on the ground, succeeding as the spiraling golden divine lightning struck the ground.
However, the golden divine lightning exploded into a shockwave, producing countless sparks on the ground as it spread in a circle and encompassed the assailant.
*Bzzz!~*
Despite jumping, the assailant was enveloped by this lightning strike and shuddered. He felt his nerves burn, and a charred smell erupted from his flesh.
Once the golden divine shockwave ended, he dropped to the ground.
"Ridiculous." Fairy Thunderblaze's eyes narrowed, "A mere Level One Empyrean Spirit wants to assassinate us?"
"Don't be so mad."
Davis arrived before the assailant and simply tied him up using a light lasso that he conjured from his soul force, and then conjured a sealing rune and etched it over his dantian and the soul.
"He wasn't targeting you but me. Besides, he seems to be a spirit fey…" He said with some doubt as he looked at the assailant before him.
It was unknown if he was black because he was charred, but his darkness aura was evident. At the same time, he also radiated a human aura that could only be found in progeny between a spirit and a human.
After tying him up, Davis made him sit up and slapped his cheeks lightly to wake him up.
"You don't know…" Fairy Thunderblaze argued with some frustration, "If I were targeted, I would've sensed the danger, but even before that, I should've been able to realize that I was pulled into a dream. It seems like…"
Davis turned to look at her, "Well, I'm sorry if I let you down."
"It's not your fault." She shook her head, "In the past two days, to think I have let my guard down just because you were there to maintain a vigilant eye. This speaks volumes about my subconscious dependence, which shouldn't happen."
"…" Davis was speechless, "You're too hard on yourself. Look, his prowess is five levels higher, at least equivalent to your current prowess. I caught onto him early on because he also tried to pull me into a dream, but failed. His technique is not bad. It's subtle and unnoticeable if it weren't for my ridiculous soul."
"Grhh."
At this moment, the assailant woke up and grunted in pain.
His mind quickly turned alarmed as he knew he had been defeated in one move by an Immortal Emperor, which was ridiculous.
"Evil human…" He growled, his purple eyes displaying terror, "What do you want? Kill me."
"Evil…?" Davis was really confused now.
He had originally thought it was someone from the Void Reflection Palace or the World's End Hall. The Void Reflection Palace would obviously come after the Temporal Voidplane Ring. Davis didn't think they would stop sending Empyreans to retrieve it.
On the other hand, only someone from the World's End Hall would take assassinating the Divine Emperor of Death as a challenge.
After soulscouring a few knowledgeable supreme geniuses and even from Awudan's memories, he came to know that the World's End Hall at least encompassed three galaxies so far. It could be a rumor, but it seemed true that they were so powerful and ancient that they weren't underneath anyone.
But now it seemed that this spirit fey was most likely from a locality nearby.
However, what was the point in calling him evil? How did they know he was an Anarchic Divergent?
"What do you mean?" Davis asked.
If possible, he didn't want to soulscour since it was not only distasteful but also bad for the soul as it soaks in the memories of others. It was like tasting a meal. Even for someone as experienced as him in safe soulscouring, it would leave a bad aftertaste for a while.
After usurping Awudan's identity, he was truly a bit nauseous about looking into others' memories, so unless needed, he didn't want to do it.
"The bird… you can control the calamitous Eternal Eclipse Bird, which brought a plague that killed thousands of my people. You are a disaster that needs to be quelled before it erupts…"
"Ah…" Davis finally understood.
Of course, in the eyes of others, just controlling something like a Calamity should put him on a bounty list. He had totally ignored this matter since he felt like the Eternal Eclipse Bird was no different than his tamed beast now. It had a Ghost Will and adhered to commands like a faithful servant.
Nonetheless, he turned to look at Fairy Thunderblaze and said, "His target wasn't you. He's telling the truth."
Fairy Thunderblaze descended. Her fury did lessen a great deal after hearing that.
So they got caught in a crossfire between a Calamity and a spirit tribe.
This was a first for her, making her feel amused gradually.
"Interesting…" She said, "Are you a descendant of the ancient humans and a spirit tribe? For how long have you lived, and what happened to the humans here? Did anyone survive?"
"What's your name?" Davis also asked.
The black-cloaked assailant trembled in their calm presence.
They didn't seem like Immortal Emperors at all. Regardless, he couldn't understand. The purple-robed man was asking in a soothing tone, while the crimson-purple-robed woman was asking like he was her prey. Both their demeanors were scary, as though they would behead him after the questioning session was over.
"I-I won't tell where my tribe is, no matter what!" He blurted out and closed his eyes, hastening the inevitable.
Davis chuckled, expecting it, "For an assassin, you sure are loyal. You have strange spirit markings on your forehead. Are you a slave?"
"…"
The assailant trembled ever so lightly, opening his eyes to look at Davis in disbelief since the sigil was long inactive. He didn't know how this person was able to tell, but he inadvertently replied.
"My master is dead, killed by the plague…"
