Chapter 682 - 15: Secret
Chapter 682: Chapter 15: Secret
Gulwige nodded slightly, a gentle smile on his face: “No need to be polite, Lynch. Helping you is also helping myself, and more importantly, it’s for the future of all wizards and even our world.”
Lynch felt a bit embarrassed by his words, as if an invisible mantle of responsibility and mission quietly pressed on his shoulders.
The old man seemed to notice his discomfort, his tone softened: “There’s no need to feel pressured. I tell you these things because I want you to understand that the research we’re engaged in is a cause for pride and honor.”
“We are laying bricks for the advancement of all wizards, for the great cause of our civilization breaking free of its cradle and moving towards the stars. Remember this significance, as sometimes it can provide more strength than any spell.”
Lynch took a deep breath and nodded solemnly: “I will keep this in mind, Master.”
Gulwige smiled with satisfaction, as if suddenly thinking of something, he turned to ask: “By the way, how is your cultivation progress going? What level has your spirit laws reached?”
Lynch pondered briefly and replied truthfully: “Reporting to the Master, currently at the thirteenth level.”
Even with Gulwige’s vast knowledge, a clear look of amazement flashed in his eyes: “Thirteenth level… so fast.”
He sighed lightly: “It’s normal for an ordinary Domain Wizard to spend several years, even more than ten years, to advance one level of spirit laws. Even the most talented fifth-level talent child I know took over two years to go from level twelve to level thirteen.”
His gaze became deep, and he looked at Lynch with meaning: “But someone like you… progressing so rapidly, in my tens of thousands of years, is unprecedented. Especially when I recall your wizard talent seems to be only… third-class?”
Lynch’s heart tightened suddenly. His greatest secret, the existence of the system, absolutely could not be known to others.
However, Gulwige’s subsequent words made his tense nerves relax.
The old man’s tone was calm, even with a bit of comfort: “No need to be nervous. I told you on your first day at Fran, everyone has their own fate and secrets, and Fran never asks about these. What we value is your present and future, not dwelling on your past. As long as your strength is used for the right path, that’s enough.”
Lynch finally let out a sigh of relief, bowing: “Thank you, Master, for understanding.”
“Alright, let’s call it a day. Go back and properly digest what you’ve learned today.” Gulwige waved his hand, ending this teaching session.
Lynch nodded, saluted again, and then turned to leave this mysterious laboratory.
The heavy laboratory doors closed silently.
Just after Lynch left, a shadow in the room seemed to move like a living thing, and a low, slightly sharp voice sounded out of nowhere, filled with undisguised suspicion:
“This apprentice, there’s something very wrong. It’s impossible for anyone, especially a third-class talent, to reach this level in such a short time. He must be hiding a secret, and it’s an incredible secret!”
Gulwige’s gentle smile gradually faded, returning to the unfathomable calm of a Truth Wizard. He nodded slightly: “By conventional standards, naturally impossibility. This progress has already exceeded the limits explainable by the wizard cultivation system.”
“Then why…” The voice in the shadow expressed confusion.
“But,” Gulwige turned the conversation, his eyes flashing with wise brilliance, “what if what he’s relying on is not conventional ’resources’ or ’talent’?”
“What kind of Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures could provide such aid?” The voice retorted, “Pardon me, Master, but you won’t find such defying treasures anywhere in the Wizard World that allow one to ignore talent barriers and crazily advance!”
“I don’t mean materials or potions.” Gulwige shook his head slowly, he raised his hand, a wisp of light flowed at his fingertip, as if capturing something invisible, “but… time.”
“Time?” The voice in the shadow was noticeably taken aback, filled with doubt, “You mean…”
“Haven’t you noticed?” Gulwige’s gaze seemed to penetrate the walls, looking towards where Lynch had left, “His ’time’ appears to flow differently than our ’time.’ Every meeting, the traces of time passing on him always seem more ’profound’ than the outside world.”
The voice fell silent for a moment, as if in memory and verification, then suddenly woke up, filled with incredulous surprise: “Are you saying… ’Time Elder’?! That old monster’s last whereabouts…”
“Indeed, went west.” Gulwige interjected, his tone certain, “And this child also comes from the west, and…he happens to wield power related to time. Is this merely a coincidence?”
“So that’s it, so that’s it!”
The voice in the shadow drew a sharp breath: “You suspect… the fragment of Time Truth is on this child?!”
“Very likely.” Gulwige paced slowly, his voice distant, “That is one of the absolute truths above ordinary laws…if he has harnessed its power, then all the ’impossibilities’ happening to him are reasonably explained.”
The laboratory fell into silence, only the floating runes tirelessly circulated, seemingly silently narrating the mysteries of the cosmos. The presence in the shadow seemed equally shaken by this speculation, speechless for a long time.
After a while, the voice sounded again, its tone completely changed, carrying a hint of reverence and relief:
“…if that’s the case, then everything makes sense.”
After a pause, the voice continued to ask: “Then…should this matter be reported to the Blue Tower? After all, this is Time Truth!”
Gulwige contemplated for a moment.
Ultimately, he shook his head: “No need, notifying won’t help, as Time Truth, once designated, is absolutely impossible to strip away. The only thing we can do is to try our best to pull him into our alliance and provide assistance on his growth path.”
After a pause, he said thoughtfully: “Time Elder…choosing him as the heir of time, surely there is a reason.”
“Let’s do this.”
After thinking for a moment, Gulwige continued: “Work to secure him a spot in the Lost Tower.”
“What!”
The voice startled: “The Lost Tower? You want to send him to the Lost Tower? But he’s just an outsider, not even a wizard of Fran, hasn’t even left a Spirit Imprint of Fran, yet giving him such a precious spot at the Lost Tower…”
“Pardon me, but there has never been such a precedent!”
Gulwige said: “Isn’t there one now?”
After a pause, he said earnestly: “Smogus, do you think our situation is good? We’ve been trapped in this constrained space for too long, the outside world has changed God knows how much.”
“Everyone is energetically developing, while we are stuck in place. Does being the chief of monkeys here truly bring you joy, or have you been assimilated over time and forgotten your true identity and origin?”
“Don’t forget why we came here initially, don’t you want to go back?”
The voice became silent, clearly recalling: “Indeed…so long…it’s been over ten thousand years since the crash…”
