Chapter 371 - 8: Blood Knight Order
Chapter 371: Chapter 8: Blood Knight Order
Compared to Greywell’s steady approach, the young Erwin is evidently more prominent.
After taking over the scepter of power, he immediately started implementing several new policies.
First is the reorganization of the military system.
During Greywell’s era, the city’s military force primarily consisted of the City Defense Army established at the city’s founding, designed originally to deal with ordinary people during the era of nobility.
However, now the majority of those in Feiyan City are adventurers, and in front of these professionals who have received complete combat training and mastered the Breathing Technique, the City Defense Army, composed of ordinary soldiers, is fairly weak.
There have been many adventurer-related crimes in the city, yet the City Defense Army’s soldiers are unable to handle them due to strength disparities, eventually seeking assistance from the Adventurer Guild, deploying High-level Adventurers to resolve the troubles.
Once or twice is fine, but if this continues, problems are bound to arise; after all, if a system lacks even the most basic force to maintain order, then that order surely cannot last.
Thus, addressing this issue, Erwin implemented two measures: firstly, to select certain adventurers, offering generous rewards to recruit some outstanding adventurers into the City Guard, all of whom must have Knight Level strength or above.
Additionally, he redivided the Militia Corps, which used to be entirely allocated to the Adventurer Guild, by prioritizing those with exceptional potential to join the City Defense Team.
Besides offering generous rewards, they also receive knightly titles granted by Queen Karina, earning official knight status.
Erwin’s clear aim is to create an order composed entirely of knights, a knight order.
This policy clearly deviates somewhat from Lynch’s initial intentions, as his primary goal was to excavate ruins, hence all resources and talents should be focused towards the ruins; now drawing personnel to the city to form an army seemed irrational.
Therefore, when Erwin first proposed this strategy, he specially reported to Lynch, providing reasons beyond just city security, but also focusing on Feiyan City’s future development.
Feiyan City, Lord Castle.
“We can’t remain confined forever to this small city of Feiyan City; sooner or later we must expand outward.”
“From the Thorn Territory in the north, to Ruins Sea in the west, reaching east to Kassen Corridor, and south to Wind Forest… historically these lands belonged to Orendale, and now we only occupy a very small portion.”
“My mentor has mentioned the Kingdom’s former glory to me more than once. I think we should aim bigger.”
“With more territory, we can attract more population, resources, develop more adventurers, and conduct wider excavations of the ruins; that’s what I believe, Master Wizard.”
Lynch was standing on the terrace, feeding corn to some pigeons on the balcony. After listening to Erwin’s report, he nodded and turned: “I understand, overall you just wish to expand your territory, is that right?”
He asked, “So, are you planning to start a war?”
Erwin nodded, “Yes, Master!”
If preparing for war, it’s certainly not feasible to continue investing resources solely in the Adventurer Guild. While adventurers are strong, they lack inherent cohesion, limiting their practical battlefield effectiveness.
Lynch looked at the young Erwin with interest, realizing that youthful perspectives indeed differ greatly from older ones.
Greywell’s development strategy prioritized stability, cautiously treading, and after removing noble governance, enacted few major reforms, following Lynch’s plans step by step.
Such an approach isn’t necessarily bad, as the Adventurer Guild’s growth to its current scale over the years owes much to Greywell’s steadiness.
However, after Greywell’s era of stability, the emerging generation is no longer intent on slow growth, dissatisfied with remaining confined to Feiyan City in terms of vision or ambition.
Lynch nodded, “Alright, carry out according to your intentions.”
Though he hadn’t revealed it, he was considering future plans to counter the Dark Moon Church, and Erwin’s proposal aligned perfectly with his thoughts.
Such an adjustment would certainly divert adventurer resources, but in the long run, possessing more territory enables more resources and adventurer expansion, a venture sure to be profitable without loss.
After a pause, he asked, “Your name is Erwin, correct?”
Only by this time did he gradually recognize the exceptional talent of this young pupil educated by Greywell.
He certainly didn’t believe Erwin’s proposal at this moment was by chance; likely, Erwin sensed Lynch’s intent to outwardly expand, hence choosing this time for suggestion, indicating his considerable talent just from this point alone.
Erwin replied, “Erwin Kano, Master.”
Lynch nodded, “Okay Erwin, then go ahead with the plan. If coordination is needed anywhere, be it the Magic Farm or Light Church, find them directly, stating it’s my wish for cooperation.”
Erwin replied, “Yes, Master.”
After a pause, he added, “Also, about the newly formed knight order, I haven’t decided on a name; do you think…”
Lynch replied, “Blood, let’s call it Blood Knight Order.”
Investment must lead to output, and since a decision is made to forge this order, let blood consecrate its name.
…
Wizard Calendar Year 10060, October.
After three months in power over Feiyan City, Erwin established a new order named the Blood Knight Order, personally designated by the Guardian.
This order selected adventurers of Knight Level strength to form an initial personnel scale of 1000 people!
In addition, 3000 outstanding Apprentice Knights were selected from the Militia Corps.
A force of 1000 Official Knight Level members and 3000 Apprentice Knights, in the Human World, no matter the location, this is an undeniably formidable number — only a few Lords in the peak times of Jade Land could deploy such numbers.
And they were among the strongest factions in this fragmented Orendale.
