Chapter 520: You Must Be on Your Guard
Chapter 520: Chapter 520: You Must Be on Your Guard
Taro Head used her tablet to make a voice call to Flynn.
He didn’t answer the first time she called. Taro Head tried again, but there was still no answer.
Scowling, Taro Head tried a third time.
This time, he finally answered, his voice hushed. "Nicole, what’s up? I’m busy right now."
"Busy with what?" Taro Head asked.
"I’m with a client," Flynn said.
Taro Head said, "Send me a video so I can see."
Flynn was stunned. "Why are you suddenly asking for something like that?"
’Usually, when I tell her I’m with a client, Nina Eames gets all worried about interrupting my work and hangs up right away. What’s gotten into her today?’
"Is there a problem?" Taro Head’s tone was cold. "I told you to send a video, so just do it. Cut the crap."
"Alright, alright, I’ll send it," Flynn said before hanging up.
About a minute later, Taro Head received a photo he’d sent.
Two people were sitting across the table, and it was clear from their clothes that they were both men.
Taro Head showed the photo to Renee Jennings and the audience, stating confidently, "He’s definitely not having a meal with these two."
Renee Jennings nodded in agreement. "You’re right. If he were eating with these two guys, he wouldn’t have taken so long to answer your call."
"Exactly." Taro Head started a video call with him.
The call rang for a good while before Flynn answered. He looked a little flustered.
"Nicole, what is it now?" he asked, sounding annoyed. "Didn’t I already send you the photo?"
Taro Head replied, "I need to double-check."
Flynn’s heart skipped a beat. "Double-check what?"
Before Taro Head could answer, a girl’s coquettish voice came from the other end of the video call. "Brother Felix, what’s taking you so long?"
Taro Head saw the video feed tremble, and then the call disconnected.
She pressed her lips together, her face livid. Her voice trembled with rage. "I’m so pissed! That son of a bitch!"
Hearing the familiar voice, Woody’s black, gem-like eyes widened. "Chirp~ That was the voice! Flynn was asking that person if she liked all of that lady’s things."
Renee Jennings relayed Woody’s words to Taro Head.
"It’s all my fault. I trusted him too much," Taro Head said in frustration. "I always thought couples should trust each other, so when he said he didn’t take my things, I believed him without a second thought."
[Hugs, girl. It’s a good thing you found out now instead of after you were married.]
[Yeah, finding this out before the wedding is basically a celebration.]
Taro Head took a deep breath. Just as she was about to say something, another video call from Flynn popped up.
"Nicole, the connection was just unstable, we got cut off—"
This time, Taro Head cut him off. "You’d better return every single thing you took from me, exactly as it was."
The smile on Flynn’s face froze. Two seconds later, he said sternly, "Nicole, haven’t I already told you it has nothing to do with me? What would I do with girls’ products?"
"What would you do with them?" Taro Head sneered. "You could give them to your little ’treasure,’ couldn’t you?"
Flynn’s expression faltered. A flicker of shock flashed in his eyes before he laughed as if he’d heard a joke. "Nicole, what are you talking about? You’re my only treasure."
"Finn Shepherd," Taro Head said, her tone grave. "I’m not joking. You’d better give back what you took."
"I really didn’t take your things!" Finn Shepherd said, flustered and angry. "Nina Eames, how can you accuse me like this? Aren’t you afraid of breaking my heart?"
"Accuse you?" Taro Head laughed mockingly. "I’m giving you a chance to come clean, and you’re throwing it back in my face. Fine. I guess I’ll just have to call the police."
Hearing that she was going to call the police, Finn Shepherd immediately panicked. "Nina Eames! What do you mean? You’re talking nonsense. I don’t understand a word you’re saying."
"Fine, I’ll spell it out for you," Taro Head said, her expression full of disgust. "You’re cheating on me, and you’re stealing my stash of makeup and skincare products to give to your ’Number Three’."
Finn Shepherd was silent for a dozen seconds before asking, "Do you have any proof?"
"What do you think?" Taro Head decided to bluff. "If I didn’t have proof, how could I possibly have found out?"
"You..." Finn Shepherd’s brow furrowed. "What exactly have you found out?"
Taro Head couldn’t be bothered to waste any more time on him. "Return my things, untouched," she said coldly. "Otherwise, I’d have no problem letting everyone at your company know what kind of scumbag you are."
"Nina..."
Finn Shepherd tried to say something else, but Taro Head simply hung up on him.
She looked at Renee Jennings on the phone screen, and her tone softened. "Teacher Renee, thank you so, so much for your help! I’m going to make a list for Finn Shepherd. If he doesn’t return my things or give me the money for them by tomorrow, I’m calling the police."
Meanwhile, Finn Shepherd clutched his phone, his face turning deathly pale as he muttered a curse.
He returned to the restaurant booth in silence.
The girl sitting across from him was touching up her makeup with a designer powder compact. When she saw him return, she said, "Brother Felix, this powder is really nice. I want two more to give to my friends."
Hearing this, Finn Shepherd’s expression darkened, and his tone grew irritated. "There’s no more of this powder."
"No more?" The girl put the compact in her purse, unfazed. "Well, next time you can get some, remember to grab a few extra for me."
Finn Shepherd clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. "There is no more. And there never will be again."
Hearing this, the girl frowned. "Brother Felix, what’s that supposed to mean?"
Finn Shepherd was incredibly frustrated, but the thought that all his recent efforts had yet to pay off forced him to swallow his rising anger.
"I was just kidding," he said, forcing a smile. "Come over to my place tonight?"
**
Taro Head thanked Renee Jennings, sent her a "Bright Stars" gift worth 520, and then disconnected from the stream.
[This just goes to show, you have to do random spot-checks on your partner!]
[Totally wrong! The real lesson here is: never get a partner in the first place!]
[If you’re single, stay single. If you’re in a relationship, always watch your back!]
Renee Jennings watched the live comments, amused and a bit helpless. "Whether or not you get into a relationship is really up to fate. Sometimes, when it comes for you, there’s no stopping it."
[Exactly! I have a friend who always said she was committed to staying single, but she had a whirlwind wedding this year and already has a kid...]
[True, fate is a big deal. Take it from someone who’s been there: never say never, or you’ll end up eating your words later.]
Renee Jennings glanced at the viewer count in the top-right corner. The audience in her stream had now surpassed one hundred thousand people.
She took out her spare phone and opened the photo that Sean Fuller had someone restore. "Does everyone remember the girl I mentioned before," she said softly, "the one who went missing from Anlow sixteen years ago?"
