The Villainess's Heartthrob Script: I Can Talk to Animals

Chapter 342: She Must Provide Evidence

Chapter 342: Chapter 342: She Must Provide Evidence

When Bighead saw the bullet comments all saying she would abandon Husky, she suddenly felt uneasy.

’I already said I wouldn’t abandon him. Why are these people so relentless?’

"I won’t abandon him," Bighead said with a displeased frown. "I’ll figure something else out. If worse comes to worst, I’ll just send him to my family in the countryside to raise."

[How is that any different from abandoning him?]

[A word of advice to everyone: don’t get a pet on impulse. This is a perfect example.]

[That’s right. Raising a pet is a lot like raising a child. Don’t get into it if you’re not mentally prepared.]

Bighead was likely flustered and angered by the comments. "Streamer, sorry to trouble you, but I’m signing off now."

With that, she disconnected, gifted a paper crane worth 52 yuan, and left the stream.

Renee Jennings didn’t comment further on the matter, saying simply, "Let’s take the next call."

The third successful connection was: Riverflow.

A young man with black-rimmed glasses appeared in the split-screen window. He looked like a college student.

"Hello, Streamer," Riverflow said in greeting. "Just call me Rio."

"Hello, Rio." Renee Jennings smiled. "Are you still in school?"

Riverflow raised a hand to scratch his head, a bashful smile on his face. "Not a college student. I’ve been working for a year now."

Renee Jennings gave a slight nod. "What can I help you with?"

"My girlfriend and I recently encountered a really baffling situation," Riverflow said with a frown. "It’s a bit complicated to explain, and we might need you to make time for a separate video call, Streamer."

Upon hearing this, Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow. "Tell me the situation first."

"Okay," Rio nodded. "So, here’s what happened. Three months ago, my girlfriend and I found a Golden British Shorthair on the street."

"People don’t usually abandon a cat like that, so we figured it must have gotten lost. We took it home and started asking around in our tenant group chat, the property management group chat, and a local buy-and-sell group if anyone had lost a cat."

Rio adjusted his glasses and continued, "We kept posting for a full week, but no one came forward to claim it."

[Don’t tell me the cat’s original owner has shown up now, right?]

[I’m guessing that’s the case.]

Seeing the bullet comments, Riverflow gave a resigned smile. "You guys are sharp. You guessed it right away."

[So it really happened!]

[What’s so complicated about that? You obviously have to give the cat back to the owner!]

"Is there more to the story?" Renee Jennings asked softly.

A girl with her hair in a bun appeared beside Rio and leaned toward the camera. "That’s right. Rio and I suspect that person isn’t the cat’s actual owner."

"This is my girlfriend, Cecilia," Rio said as an introduction.

Renee Jennings: "Cecilia, why do you have these suspicions?"

Cecilia explained, "There’s a pet store near us that was running a promotion. Rio and I bought a group-deal coupon and had already taken the cat there for a bath twice. When we went the day before yesterday, another customer who was there with her pet suddenly claimed our cat was the one she had lost."

[What a coincidence???]

[I feel like a lot of cats look alike. How can she be so sure that’s her cat?]

"And then?" Renee Jennings asked.

"The woman is probably a regular at the pet store. The owner confirmed that she did used to have a Golden British Shorthair that she’d lost."

"We couldn’t just believe the cat was hers based on that alone, so we asked her to show some proof."

"But she just said the pet store owner could vouch for her, and then they kept our cat there and wouldn’t let us take him home."

As Cecilia spoke, the rims of her eyes reddened and her voice grew choked with emotion. "We’ve grown attached to him over these three months. But if she really is his owner, we would of course give him back."

Cecilia wiped away her tears and said through sobs, "But she can’t even prove the cat is hers! I’m so worried about him. I haven’t slept well for the past two nights. When I finally do fall asleep, I have nightmares that he’s being abused."

[I can totally understand how you feel.]

[The pet store owner can vouch for her? LOL, what if they’re in on it together?]

[You absolutely have to make her provide proof!!!]

Cecilia turned away from the camera to cry. Rio sighed and said, "Cecilia and I feel the same way. We won’t have any peace of mind until we see some proof."

"Oh, right, we’ve already gone to the police, but it wasn’t much help. They just told us to try and resolve it amicably on our own."

"A friend told Cecilia and me that we could ask you, the streamer, to help us communicate with the cat. To ask him if that woman really was his owner before he got lost."

"Streamer, can you do us this favor? Cecilia and I can pay for your time." After he finished, the eyes behind his lenses gazed at Renee Jennings with anticipation.

Renee Jennings also found the situation a bit strange, so she agreed. "I can. Is the cat at the pet store right now?"

"They said he had to stay at the pet store for the time being," Rio said. "But I’m not sure they won’t just take him away."

Renee Jennings: "I understand. Send me a private message with the cat’s name, a photo, and the address of the pet store."

Rio and Cecilia were overjoyed, thanking her profusely. "Thank you, Streamer! We’re so, so grateful!"

"You’re welcome." The corners of Renee Jennings’s lips curved up. "I’m also quite curious to see what’s really going on."

[Renee is so wonderful!]

[The streamer is awesome~~]

After Riverflow signed off, he gifted a set of Angel Wings worth 188 yuan.

Renee Jennings took one more call from an audience member, which was also about a pet issue. After helping them, she ended her stream for the night.

She glanced at the time—it was twenty minutes to one in the morning.

Renee Jennings stretched. Before she could even check her private messages on the platform, a new message popped up on her WeChat.

Nicole Sinclair: [Renee, sorry to bother you so late! Cecilia is actually a colleague of mine. I was the one who told them to tune into your stream. I can’t believe they got so lucky and connected with you right after following! You can rest assured, their story is true!]

Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow slightly and replied: [Hi Nicole. So you’re the friend Cecilia and Rio were talking about. Got it!]

Just as she finished replying, a voice message from Michelle Fuller came through.

Michelle Fuller: "Renee, I want to go to the pet store too! Can I? Pleeeeease? Pretty please?"

How could Renee Jennings possibly refuse her?

She held down the voice message button. "Okay, I’ll come get you once I’ve confirmed the time."

Michelle Fuller: "I’ll be waiting for you then~ Love ya~"

After listening to the message, a look of fond exasperation appeared on Renee Jennings’s refined features. "What am I going to do with you?"

She switched back to the streaming platform, replied to Riverflow’s private message, and then started reviewing the messages from people who wanted to adopt the kittens.

There were four kittens up for adoption, which meant she needed four adopters, but more than forty people had sent her private messages.

Renee Jennings entered the information from the messages into a spreadsheet. She worked until almost three in the morning, by which time a total of one hundred forty-nine people had expressed interest in adopting the kittens.
