How did their conversation end up about a kiss?
Xiao Ji said in a tone that sounded calm, “It might not necessarily work. I just want to give it a try.”
Princess Xinyang frowned and said, “What exactly is going on in that head of yours?”
Xiao Ji then added, “Or should I just go find Long Yi instead?”
What kind of nonsense was that?
How could she possibly allow her own husband to go searching for another man in the middle of the night?
“You… are you really…” The latter half of her sentence became impossible for her to say aloud.
Xiao Ji, however, clearly understood what she wanted to ask, and with a face full of sincerity, he nodded at her and said, “I swear it’s truer than gold. If you don’t distract me, my mind will be entirely filled with Long Yi.”
Princess Xinyang pressed her hand to her forehead, feeling exasperated.
After a moment of agonizing inner struggle, summoning all her courage, she leaned forward and quickly pressed a kiss to his cheek.
Doing something so forward while he was fully awake was unbearably embarrassing.
“Did… did it work?” She asked, cheeks slightly pink.
Thankfully the darkness of the night provided some cover, because if anyone had seen her like this, it would have been even more humiliating.
Xiao Ji savored the moment carefully before saying, “It seems… it didn’t really help much.”
Princess Xinyang, both embarrassed and annoyed, retorted, “The method you suggested clearly doesn’t work!”
Xiao Ji looked completely innocent and said, “You just did it once; how could it possibly work?”
Princess Xinyang’s eyelashes fluttered in disbelief. “What do you mean by that?”
Xiao Ji shamelessly replied, “You have to follow the standard I demonstrated for you last time. Or improvise a little and add more.”
Princess Xinyang nearly drew a sharp breath in shock.
Following his standard meant moving lips and even using her tongue, and adding more on top of that?
What would that even turn into?
She had never behaved so boldly in her life…
Wait.
Were those two nights when she was drugged… just as reckless?
The moment that thought surfaced, she felt her whole body go numb. Her face burned so hot it felt like it might bleed.
“Long Yi… Long Yi…” Xiao Ji started calling again.
Princess Xinyang gritted her teeth, closed her eyes, turned her head slightly, and leaned in to kiss him with lingering tenderness.
Her lips trembled; she was clearly nervous.
She hesitated for a long time before barely moving her lips.
Xiao Ji’s breath hitched.
Princess Xinyang was so anxious and shy she didn’t notice that even this tiny touch had already ignited the man beneath her.
She pulled back with a flushed face. “W-what about this?”
Xiao Ji steadied himself and said calmly, “It seems to help a little. Keep going.”
Princess Xinyang fought her shyness and kissed him again.
She was emotional, inexperienced, and completely unskilled.
In the end, Xiao Ji couldn’t bear the torment of her soft but teasingly ineffective kisses anymore. He raised his hands, broke the ropes, gently cupped the back of her head, and kissed her deeply.
“Is… is that enough now?”
She touched her reddened, moist lips and asked breathlessly.
His voice was hoarse. “Not enough, Qin Fengwen.”
That night, only the heavens knew how many kisses he demanded.
She eventually fell asleep beside him. Worried about pressing on his wound, she didn’t sleep in his arms but lay facing him. Her smooth, glossy black hair spilled over the pillow, tangling with his.
In the darkness, he looked at her sleeping face. Enduring the pain, he leaned over, not to kiss her lips, but to leave a soft kiss between her brows.
……
The next morning, the Holy Maiden in the secret chamber woke up. Long Yi and the Dongyi Princess also arrived.
Long Yi tapped her mute acupoint so she couldn’t speak.
The Dongyi Princess found the drug in the chamber and handed it to Princess Xinyang.
To keep Xiao Ji from seeing Long Yi and strengthening the drug’s effect, Princess Xinyang left him alone on the bed with the curtains tightly drawn, making him look like some forbidden possession that couldn’t see daylight.
Princess Xinyang said to the Dongyi Princess and Long Yi, “You two go out for a moment. I need to speak with her alone.”
They left.
Princess Xinyang shut the chamber door, took the pill and the candlestick, and walked toward the Holy Maiden.
The Holy Maiden sat slumped on the ground, tied tightly. She could only glare at Princess Xinyang with icy eyes.
Princess Xinyang said calmly, “Don’t look at me like that. I won’t let anyone undo your mute acupoint. I’m here to make a deal. If you agree, blink once. If you refuse, blink twice.”
……
A quarter-hour later, Princess Xinyang came out and told Long Yi, “You can release her.”
Long Yi went in to untie her and unblock her acupoint.
The Dongyi Princess asked, “Did she take it?”
Princess Xinyang nodded. “She did. She shouldn’t dare betray me anymore.”
The Dongyi Princess warned, “Be careful. The drug varies a lot from person to person.”
Princess Xinyang nodded lightly. “I know. The wedding is in two days. There will be even more people coming and going. You and Long Yi shouldn’t show yourselves.”
Then she added, “Or Long Yi can send you away first. When we seize the Dongyi King, we might not be able to look after you.”
The Dongyi Princess said, “I know martial arts. I can protect myself.”
She insisted on staying. It was too far from the State of Zhao’s camp to send her back, and leaving her on the road wasn’t safe. Princess Xinyang didn’t bring it up again.
Princess Xinyang and Xiao Ji returned to their original room. Long Yi and the Dongyi Princess hid in the shadows near the Holy Maiden, watching her closely and monitoring the drug’s effects.
If it failed, they would use force.
But the drug seemed effective. The Holy Maiden obeyed Princess Xinyang completely, causing no trouble whatsoever.
In the blink of an eye, the wedding day arrived. Xiao Ji woke early. When he opened his eyes and saw that Qin Fengwen was gone, he asked the servant at the door and learned that the Holy Maiden had summoned her.
The Holy Maiden would not summon her. Qin Fengwen must have gone to keep an eye on her, worried something might go wrong.
He thought nothing more of it.
With some regret, he looked at the wedding robes on the table and dressed himself.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
