Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
Since there was no other task to assign to Long Yi, Princess Xinyang asked, “Are there other rooms here in the Holy Maiden Hall that can be used for lodging?”
The Dongyi princess replied, “Yes. Princess, do you want me to take Long Yi there?”
“Yes.” Princess Xinyang answered.
“What about you?” the Dongyi princess asked.
Princess Xinyang looked at her husband, who was sticking to Long Yi like glue, took a deep breath, and said, “I’ll stay here to keep an eye on the Marquis. You’ll stay next door to Long Yi and help me watch him.”
Long Yi would definitely be fine, and Princess Xinyang did not even know why she was being anxious about this in the first place.
The Dongyi princess wanted to say something but ultimately said nothing, and took Long Yi away to find a room.
Xiao Ji wanted to follow, but Princess Xinyang stopped him.
The cold wind blew straight against his face, the snow in his palms melted, and the chill made him shiver, finally clearing his mind a little.
He looked at the ugly snowman with an expression filled with indescribable complexity and asked, “I didn’t… do anything strange just now, did I?”
Princess Xinyang said nothing.
Since she knew it was the drug’s effect, she did not truly hold it against him, and she brought him back into the inner palace.
During this time, the woman in red came once and asked whether the Holy Maiden needed anything.
Xiao Ji answered from behind the door, “No need. Everyone may withdraw for the night; I will serve the Holy Maiden as she rests.”
Princess Xinyang wrapped herself in the Holy Maiden’s robes, styled her hair into the Holy Maiden’s customary hairdo, and cast a silhouette on the oiled paper window.
The woman in red suspected nothing and respectfully withdrew all the personnel who were on duty.
As for the experts hiding in the shadows, they had long since been silently dealt with by Long Yi.
When Long Yi was not nearby, Xiao Ji remained relatively clear-headed.
Night had deepened, and it was time to rest. Princess Xinyang replaced the delicate bedding on the Holy Maiden’s bed and lay down beside him.
“I really didn’t do anything strange just now, right?” he asked.
“No.” Princess Xinyang replied with a calm expression. At a moment like this, it was best not to mention Long Yi at all.
“Did you get Xiao Ming’s antidote?” he asked again.
“We got it.” Princess Xinyang said.
Xiao Ji let out a breath of relief. “That’s good. Xiao Ming has been poisoned for too long. If this drags on any further, his life may be in danger.”
He spoke, then paused. “Then all that’s left is saving Xiao En and Xiao Ze.”
“What do you plan to do?” Princess Xinyang asked.
Xiao Ji analyzed, “Either we directly force our way into the Dongyi King’s dungeon and rescue them, but that method is too risky. If Long Yi goes alone, he doesn’t have enough manpower, and I am seriously injured so I’d be useless.”
For once, Princess Xinyang did not shoot back with something like, “Oh, so now you actually know your limits? Why didn’t you have the same sense when you were bragging earlier?”
Xiao Ji continued, “Or we use the Holy Maiden to trade for Xiao En and Xiao Ze, but this is risky as well. If the Dongyi King refuses to exchange and his army breaks out, we will all die here.”
With Long Yi’s martial skill, he could certainly break out alone, but taking people with him would be difficult.
Princess Xinyang frowned. “This won’t work, that won’t work…”
“There is a third method.” Xiao Ji said, pausing again, and this time the pause was noticeably longer. “We continue with the wedding. The Dongyi King will attend the Holy Maiden’s wedding, and Long Yi can seize the opportunity to capture him.”
Princess Xinyang grew instantly emotional.
She turned toward him and propped herself up with her elbow. “You really want to go through with the wedding with the Holy Maiden?”
The very thought of him bowing in marriage alongside another woman made her feel unwell all over.
“And… and she wouldn’t cooperate!” she said angrily.
Xiao Ji said, “Ah, you’re not wrong. She definitely won’t behave. Unless… we also give her this drug, let her become affectionate toward me…”
“In your dreams!” Princess Xinyang stared at him coldly and rejected this idea outright.
Xiao Ji sighed helplessly. “But aside from the wedding, there’s no better way to lure the Dongyi King over.”
Princess Xinyang turned away from him. She slept on the outer side of the bed, partly to take care of his injuries at night and partly to prevent him from sneaking off to find Long Yi.
She was facing the table of the inner hall, where the Holy Maiden’s wedding garments were placed.
For some reason, she thought of that wedding many years ago, a wedding she had entered with deep resentment and unwillingness.
She had also worn bridal robes back then, but it was with the mission of watching him closely and being ready to kill him at any time.
She still remembered that when she stepped down from the bridal sedan, the red wedding ribbon arrived a step late, and he reached out his own hand to help her.
She had not taken it, waiting instead for the servant to bring the red ribbon.
Later, Yu Jin told her that her manners during the bowing ceremony had been greatly lacking, whereas Xiao Ji had been extremely earnest, bowing more deeply than her every single time.
The guests laughed that he would never be able to keep any authority over his wife in the future.
The young Xiao Ji had only smiled and was not angered.
Yet that pure and bright young man had been “killed” by her on their wedding night.
She lowered her gaze and spoke quietly. “Very well then. You may go through with the wedding with the Holy Maiden. When she wakes, I will feed her the drug and make her obedient to me, so that she will marry you without causing trouble.”
Xiao Ji frowned. Wait, this was not the reaction he expected at all.
Shouldn’t she be jealous that he was marrying another woman, and then insist on taking the Holy Maiden’s place herself?
Xiao Ji was unhappy!
He endured his pain and sat up.
Princess Xinyang turned sharply toward him, looking wary. “What are you doing?”
Xiao Ji said flatly, “I’m going to find Long Yi.”
Was the drug effect coming back again…?
Princess Xinyang frowned and said coldly, “You are not allowed to go! Lie down!”
Xiao Ji pouted and lay down with great grievance.
Princess Xinyang still felt uneasy, so she found a silk ribbon and tied their wrists together. Now he definitely could not go looking for Long Yi.
Xiao Ji chuckled. “Qin Fengwen, I may be injured, but a single ribbon like this is nothing to me.”
Princess Xinyang thought about it, then tied his other hand as well, this time to the bedframe.
Xiao Ji: “…”
Xiao Ji stared up at the ceiling. “Long Yi… Long Yi…”
Princess Xinyang finally snapped. “Shut up!”
“I can’t. My mind is full of Long Yi.” Xiao Ji said righteously, pushing all responsibility onto the drug. “It’s the drug effect.”
Princess Xinyang’s fists clenched until they creaked.
Xiao Ji continued shamelessly, “If you want me to stop thinking about Long Yi, that’s easy, distract me.”
“How?” Princess Xinyang asked.
Xiao Ji, utterly shameless, said, “You should kiss me.”

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
