Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
This girl had the nerve to abandon her cushy life as the noble young lady of the Marquis Estate, only to run all the way to the State of Yan and pretend to be a man in the army. And now, what? She was finally facing the consequences!
Did she really think the battlefield was some kind of playground?
It was a place where blood flowed like rivers, corpses lay scattered across the land, and one’s life could end at any moment!
With a thunderous boom, Chu Feipeng and Chang Jing finally clashed in fierce combat. The commotion was overwhelming. Chu Feipeng struck a nearby boulder with a powerful palm strike, sending it flying.
The stone hurtled directly toward Gu Jiao. Old Marquis clenched his teeth, shifted her into one arm, and grabbed a shield from the ground with the other, raising it just in time to block the incoming rock.
Song Kai hadn’t been idle either. Seeing his top fighters fall one by one under Tang Yueshan’s arrows, he immediately dispatched his own squad of archers into the fray.
A downpour of arrows, dense and overwhelming, came crashing down upon them like a storm sweeping across the battlefield.
Old Marquis dropped to one knee, shielding the unconscious Gu Jiao in his arms with a shield he gripped tightly, not out of willingness, but sheer necessity, his expression full of disdain and resignation.
The arrows struck the hard surface of the shield with a sharp metallic clang again and again, but fortunately it was one of the specially forged shields from the State of Liang, which was exceptionally durable and resilient. Had it been one from the State of Zhao, it would have already been riddled with holes like a sieve.
Even so, it was no easy feat to withstand this kind of onslaught alone, alright?
“Marquis Xuanping! You could at least——”
Do something, damn it!
But just as Old Marquis was halfway through yelling, he suddenly sensed something off. Turning his head to look, he caught sight of Marquis Xuanping, who, at some point, had sneakily circled around to crouch behind him, sitting comfortably and hiding from the hail of arrows as if he had all the time in the world.
Old Marquis was speechless: Can you at least pretend to have some dignity?!
After exchanging over a dozen moves with Chang Jing, Chu Feipeng still hadn’t managed to defeat the young opponent standing before him.
He drew the sword from his waist and spoke, “These days, it’s rare for young men to push me to the point of unsheathing my sword. Boy, you and that Xiao Liulang are both quite impressive. You’ve earned my respect. It’s just a shame that you’ve chosen the wrong master. With your talents, if you were to surrender and serve under my command, I would guarantee you a glorious future!”
Chang Jing thought about it for a moment, then looked at Chu Feipeng and replied, “You wish! Eat shit!”
Chu Feipeng choked.
That vulgar phrase had been picked up by little Jing Kong from Xu Zhouzhou, and then somehow passed on to Chang Jing.
Chu Feipeng’s voice turned cold. “Brat, it seems you won’t drink the wine of respect unless it’s served with punishment. Fine, then. I’ll kill you first, and then the rest of them! I wasn’t serious before, but now I am. You’d better watch yourself!”
Chu Feipeng’s reputation had never been an empty boast. Back in the day, he stood shoulder to shoulder with Gongsun Yu and Xuanyuan Sheng in fame. He had once challenged Xuanyuan Li alone and held his ground for over a hundred exchanges.
Even Xuanyuan Li couldn’t help but praise his swordsmanship.
While Chang Jing’s sword technique emphasized speed, Chu Feipeng’s was known for its overwhelming force.
On the first strike, Chang Jing’s arm went numb.
On the second strike, his meridians were shattered by the sheer power.
On the third strike, his entire weapon was destroyed, cleaved cleanly in two!
Chang Jing looked at Chu Feipeng, then down at the bare hilt remaining in his hand. His brow furrowed slightly, and he darted back up onto the war chariot. “I can’t beat him.”
The rain of arrows had been effectively suppressed by Tang Yueshan, and the war chariot was currently out of immediate danger.
“Stay here.” Marquis Xuanping instructed Chang Jing, then hoisted his long saber and leapt down from the chariot.
He gripped the extended handle of his blade and walked step by step toward Chu Feipeng.
The lazy, carefree aura that usually clung to him faded rapidly, replaced by a suffocating, bone-chilling murderous intent.
If the young commander of the Black Wind Cavalry had resembled a god of slaughter in youthful form, then the man now approaching was more like a king who had crawled out of the nine levels of hell.
His entire presence had changed. His footsteps made no sound as he stepped across the gravel, yet each step landed as if it were crushing down on the hearts of everyone present.
Everyone’s heart sank a little.
With every step he took, the tip of his saber dragged along the ground, emitting a screech so sharp it stabbed at the eardrums.
The clouds above thickened and pressed downward, layer upon layer, casting the sky in deep gloom. A fierce western wind swept across the battlefield, kicking up sand and stones, making it nearly impossible to keep one's eyes open.
When he reached a distance of about ten feet from Chu Feipeng, Marquis Xuanping halted. With a swift motion, he drove his saber into the ground, and from the impact, stones scattered upward in a spray that reached three feet high.
The surrounding soldiers from the State of Liang all felt a jolt in their chests, as if something heavy had struck them from within.
Even Tang Yueshan’s expression shifted ever so slightly.
Was that Xiao guy… finally going all in?
Ever since Marquis Xuanping sustained that waist injury, no one had seen him fight again. Some claimed his martial arts had been ruined, others whispered that he could never return to his former strength.
Over the years, countless martial experts had come and gone by his side. Of all of them, Chang Jing had remained the longest.
But only Tang Yueshan knew the truth. Marquis Xuanping could never be so easily reduced to a cripple.
Because Marquis Xuanping was none other than the number one ranked expert in the underground arenas.
The world knew of the Beauty List of the Six States, but few knew that this very man had once single-handedly dominated the entire underground arena scene in Great Yan!
He had never had the opportunity to face off against Xuanyuan Li, but had he done so, then among the ranks of famed generals who stood shoulder to shoulder with Xuanyuan Sheng, his name would surely have been carved in just as deeply.
After so many years, witnessing Marquis Xuanping take action again stirred deep excitement in Tang Yueshan’s chest.
He pressed a hand over his heart, somewhat in disbelief. His heart was racing, and embarrassingly enough, it was actually because of a man.
Marquis Xuanping said calmly, “It’s been quite a few years since I’ve personally lifted a hand in combat. Chu Feipeng, you should consider yourself lucky.”
Chu Feipeng sneered at him, eyes filled with contempt. “A man who hides behind his comrades just to dodge a rain of arrows has no right to come before me and humiliate himself.”
“Oh?” Marquis Xuanping’s lips curled slightly on the right side. “I’ll give you three moves.”
“I should be the one giving you three moves!”
“No need for that. I happen to be someone who cares a great deal about saving face.”
Chu Feipeng had no interest in continuing the verbal sparring. With a flick of his long sword, he thrust it directly toward Marquis Xuanping’s chest.
Between true experts, flashy moves were unnecessary. As long as one was fast enough, ruthless enough, and precise enough, a single strike could determine the outcome.
Chu Feipeng had absolute faith in his swordsmanship, but to his surprise, his blade sliced past Marquis Xuanping’s side, cutting through empty air.
A miss?
How was that even possible?
“The first move.” Marquis Xuanping remarked evenly.
Chu Feipeng’s brows drew tightly together, and he swiftly aimed a kick at Marquis Xuanping’s lower body, planning to use the moment he leapt to dodge to reverse his sword and slice through his neck in one clean motion.
But——
He missed again!
Marquis Xuanping rotated his wrist slightly and spoke with disinterested ease, “Only one move left now.”
Chu Feipeng’s gaze turned icy. “Who the hell asked for your mercy? You just can’t land a hit and are making excuses for yourself! Fine then, get ready to die!”
This time, Chu Feipeng targeted Marquis Xuanping’s right arm.
He struck!
Just as Chu Feipeng was about to celebrate his successful hit, Marquis Xuanping’s figure slipped aside at the last second, and naturally, the sword once again found nothing but air.
Chu Feipeng could hardly believe what he was seeing.
Marquis Xuanping raised his long saber in hand. “You’ve used up your three moves. Now, it’s my turn.”
Chu Feipeng sneered in return. “Stop with the theatrics, you could never kill me.”
“Is that so?”
With that, Marquis Xuanping drew his blade and charged at Chu Feipeng in a decisive strike. Chu Feipeng raised his sword and blocked it just in time!
“This is your so-called strength? How disappointing——”
Chu Feipeng suddenly froze.
Marquis Xuanping’s saber was part of a matched pair.
At the exact instant Chu Feipeng raised his sword to block the first attack, Marquis Xuanping fluidly unsheathed his second blade, and with a single clean thrust, drove it straight into Chu Feipeng’s chest!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
