The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master

Chapter 504: We Meet Again (2)

Chapter 504: Chapter 504: We Meet Again (2)

The school wasn’t far from here. Vera Xavier walked ahead slowly with her backpack on, in a rather good mood.

Maybe fate saw she was in a good mood and decided to spoil it. Just as she was reaching the intersection near the school entrance, someone suddenly rushed out and bumped into her. Caught off guard, she almost stumbled and fell.

Her brow furrowed slightly. Before she could say a word, the person was already shouting, "Are you blind? You saw me coming, don’t you know how to get out of the way?!"

The voice was familiar. Vera looked up at the person and was surprised to see it was Wesley Kane, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time.

As she raised her head, Wesley Kane saw her too. He seemed just as surprised, his eyes filled with disbelief. But that disbelief instantly morphed into intense fury. He practically snarled her name through gritted teeth, "Vera Xavier!"

Vera actually hadn’t seen Wesley Kane in a while. She had been so busy lately she’d nearly forgotten all about him, never expecting they would run into each other here.

All things considered, it was a case of enemies crossing paths, their eyes blazing with hatred—though, of course, that only applied to Wesley Kane.

Vera said with an air of nonchalance, "Young Master Kane, long time no see. How have you been?"

Hearing her flippant remark, Wesley Kane wanted nothing more than to lunge forward and beat her senseless. However, he had witnessed Vera’s skills at the brick factory last time. ’I probably can’t beat her,’ he had calculated. So, he could only force himself to hold back.

The series of calamities that had befallen his family, when it came down to it, were all because of Vera. He hated her to the very bone!

Rage churned within Wesley Kane, but he forced the emotion down. He said coldly, "Thanks to you, I’m just fine."

Vera smiled faintly. "Is that so? I’m glad to hear you’re doing well. After all, we’re from the same hometown. I’m happy for you."

Wesley Kane sneered. "Cut the hypocritical act. You know exactly what you’ve done. Deep down, you’re probably just hoping I’m living a miserable life, aren’t you?"

"Not entirely!" Vera said with a smile. "I’m someone who keeps a clear ledger of kindness and grudges. If someone is good to me, I’ll be good to them. But I’m not capable of repaying malice with kindness. After all, you were the one who made the first move back then. I was merely protecting myself. It was just self-defense."

Wesley was so enraged by the two words "self-defense" that he nearly coughed up blood. Who in the world "self-defends" like that! She had practically ruined his family!

He took a deep breath and said, "Are you saying this to mean that our past grievances are wiped clean?"

"Of course!" Vera said with a smile. "What’s past is past. There’s no need to bring it up again. As long as Young Master Kane doesn’t come looking for trouble with me anymore, I’m very easy to get along with. I absolutely won’t make things difficult for you."

Wesley laughed, but it was a laugh of pure anger. Every time she called him "Young Master Kane," it sounded like a taunt in his ears.

Jeremy Kane was in prison, the Kane Family’s empire had crumbled to dust, and Wesley Kane had gone from the young master of a wealthy family to a complete pauper. The person he was now had nothing to do with the title "Young Master Kane."

He stared at Vera coldly. "So, I suppose I should be thanking you then?"

"Oh, that won’t be necessary." Vera smiled faintly. "We’re from the same hometown, after all. There’s really no need to be so formal."
