Chapter 434: Learn to Coax Him
Chapter 434: Chapter 434: Learn to Coax Him
The restaurant owner was filled with emotion. Three years ago, he and his son had been gathering mushrooms in the mountains when they were caught in a flash flood. His son was accidentally swept away, and Nathaniel Nathan, who happened to be on a mission nearby, had saved him.
This time, Nathaniel Nathan had come here to ask an old friend to help him order some specialty mushrooms, but he hadn’t expected to run into the restaurant owner.
The restaurant owner recognized him but didn’t know his name, so he respectfully addressed him as "Sir."
The restaurant owner ran after them and asked, "Sir, can you tell me your name?"
Nathaniel Nathan said flatly, "My name is the People’s Liberation Army."
He had already walked out of the restaurant by the time he finished speaking. The restaurant owner stood there in a daze. ’Of course,’ he thought. ’He’s a soldier. He’s the People’s Liberation Army.’
Vera Xavier, waiting outside, saw Nathaniel Nathan talking with the owner. He was a man of few words, so she asked curiously, "A friend of yours?"
Nathaniel Nathan nodded. "Something like that."
Vera Xavier pursed her lips. Although she couldn’t guess the whole story, the owner had refused to take their money, yet they didn’t seem to know each other well—he didn’t even know Nathaniel Nathan’s name. Now he was pulling Nathaniel aside to chat. The only possibility was that this was someone he had saved.
So she leaned in close and asked, "You saved him during a mission?"
Nathaniel Nathan said flatly, "Something like that."
Vera Xavier pouted and said, "Mr. Nathan, you’re going to get punched talking like that."
Nathaniel Nathan replied with the same indifference, "I’m a soldier. You know that. It’s only natural to help someone in danger."
Vera Xavier was touched by his words. Soldiers protected their home and country without ever asking for anything in return.
But she was still a little upset, so he couldn’t expect any praise from her. She huffed lightly and said, "I’ll be the bigger person and let it slide this time!"
Seeing her expression, the corners of Nathaniel Nathan’s mouth lifted into a slight smile. When she saw him smile, she smiled too.
He asked her, "Still mad?"
"So you did know I was mad!" Vera Xavier shook her fist at him. "Dating Rule Number One: When your girlfriend is mad, you have to coax her immediately!"
Nathaniel Nathan raised an eyebrow, not playing along. "I don’t know how."
Vera Xavier glared at him. ’You need a strong heart to talk to this man, or you could die of anger any minute.’
Unexpectedly, he added, "But I can learn."
Vera Xavier froze for a second. He looked at her and said, "But you’ll have to teach me. Why don’t you try coaxing me first? Let me experience it, so I’ll have a better idea for next time."
Vera Xavier was exasperated. ’As if I haven’t coaxed him enough times already!’
She took a deep breath and said indignantly, "You’re already thinking about a ’next time’!?"
Nathaniel Nathan found her deliberately feigned anger incredibly cute. She was already beautiful, but now, with such a rich expression on her face, she looked so vivid and radiant that he was utterly captivated.
He reached out and gently pinched her porcelain-white cheek, his eyes full of warmth. Changing the subject, he said, "You just mentioned Dating Rule Number One. So, what’s Number Two?"
Vera Xavier looked him up and down before saying, "Rule Number Two is: The girlfriend is always right. If the girlfriend makes a mistake, please refer to the previous statement."
The corner of Nathaniel Nathan’s mouth twitched. He chuckled and said, "Couldn’t you just say that you’re always right?"
Vera Xavier laughed too. "So, have you memorized it?"
