Chapter 3701: Scion Spire

Chapter 3701: Scion Spire

As for how much of a threat Lu Yin would become in the future, that was also worth considering, though it was not within the scope of Yong Heng’s current concerns.

Lu Yin was certainly a threat, but so was the High Seraph, and at the moment, the High Seraph presented a much greater threat. To begin with, no one knew what the High Seraph was really thinking.

Lu Yin and Yong Heng had worked together to stage an illusion, and only the two of them had been able to see through their charade. That deception had resulted in the High Seraph being trapped by two layers of True God's Dominion.

“Yong Heng, are you targeting me?” the High Seraph exclaimed in shock.

Yong Heng and Lu Yin attacked in unison. One used Return of the Myriad Swords, while the other used Heaven's Blade. As they struck, all of the lanterns were destroyed.

The High Seraph coughed up blood for the first time during this battle. Earlier, when he had been injured by Old Chief and the other Luminaries, it was because he had received a memory, rather than the power of the conscients’ consciousnesses.

True God’s Natural Art had actually wounded the High Seraph.

Both the Return of the Myriad Swords and Heaven’s Blade came crashing down simultaneously, even as the High Seraph was targeted by consciousness from all directions.

At this moment, the High Seraph was facing the most deadly attacks from three different megaverses. Only an Immortal seemed to have a hope of surviving this assault.

A beautiful light once again illuminated the area below the cliff. Sequence particles from Everstone converged into a stream that merged with the light before passing through the High Seraph’s fingertip: Everlasting Will.

Instantly, both Return of the Myriad Swords and Heaven’s Blade missed their target, or rather, both attacks hung in the air.

The High Seraph had instantly vanished, and Dominion slowly crumbled.

Everything became calm once again. Yong Heng, Lu Yin, and Old Chief’s group all continued to stand where they were. Dark-red divine energy slowly dissipated while consciousness receded. The High Seraph had escaped.

Lu Yin frowned as he stared in the direction that the High Seraph had just fled in. Lu Yin had felt the power of time, and it had not been some ordinary usage either. Just how many hidden cards did the High Seraph still have? The man had yet to even use a mirebound artifact.

Yong Heng sighed. “As expected, we could not tie him down. No matter what, he is the High Seraph and the strongest one to hold that title in the history of the Spirit Nidus at that.”

Old Chief and the other Luminaries exchanged glances. The disbelief was clear in their eyes.

The High Seraph had just been surrounded by an even more impressive ambush than the trap that the Thirteen Luminaries had arranged, and yet he had still escaped. This meant that the trap they had prepared in the Willbound Expanse had been nothing but a joke all along. The conscients had never had any real chance of killing the High Seraph.

They did not know if they should feel crushed or relieved.

Had their plans proceeded smoothly, and had they actually ambushed the High Seraph in the Willbound Expanse, then all of them might have died. It could be argued that they had narrowly escaped disaster. However, the High Seraph’s power had proven to be far more horrifying than expected, which caused the conscients to taste despair. They instinctively turned to look at Lu Yin and Yong Heng. Both of these men were the High Seraph’s enemies.

Lu Yin turned from the direction that the High Seraph had fled in and stared at the tall cliff, falling deep into thought. He appeared to have figured out how the High Seraph had climbed up the cliff. Unfortunately, it was not a method that Lu Yin could replicate.

To the side, Yong Heng stepped forward, advancing towards the cliff.

Old Chief and the others had been about to speak, but they fell silent when they saw the man step forward. They would wait to see if Yong Heng could succeed.

Everyone at the top of the cliff grew tense. Before the battle, they had not cared about those down below, believing that only the High Seraph had had a chance of ascending. That confidence had since been shattered. They had watched Yong Heng go toe to toe with the High Seraph, wielding a level of power worthy of a Lesser Sancte. It was impossible to predict what such a being was capable of doing.

The man and woman leading the two groups nervously watched Yong Heng. While they were quite powerful, neither believed themselves to be the equal of the Lesser Sancti.

If the High Seraph ascended, he might restrain himself due to their status. On the other hand, they did not even know where Yong Heng hailed from. If such a person drew close, they would be completely at his mercy. That was not a situation that they wanted to see, and yet there was nothing that they could do to stop it.

Divine energy spread upward along the cliff as Lu Yin watched carefully. Could Yong Heng succeed?

True God could be regarded as the true strongest expert from the Tianyuan Megaverse. Lu Yin still had not seen the full extent of the man’s abilities. Much like the High Seraph, Yong Heng had not used any mirebound artifact either.

Everyone watched carefully as Yong Heng steadily approached the cliff with divine energy. It looked like he might succeed at any moment, though he always remained just short of doing so.

After some time had passed, the people atop the cliff were able to relax. The man had failed. He was incapable of climbing up.

They had seen such scenes before. Everyone who tried to climb the cliff had the same results. They always appeared to be on the verge of success, only to miss due to some unknown inadequacy.

Lu Yin frowned. His foot rose, and he also took a step forward to try to climb the cliff. He was attempting to use Inverse Step.

Those above the cliff grew tense as yet another formidable figure attempted to reach them. Despite Lu Yin’s apparent youth, who could say how long he had truly lived for? He had barely been outmatched by the High Seraph during the recent battle, which proved that he was a supreme powerhouse. Still, he most likely would not succeed in climbing up the cliff.

Lu Yin continued to move at the speed of time, flickering about as he attempted to touch the cliff. However, just like Yong Heng, Lu Yin fell just short.

He tried using the wooden wing, yet there was still a tiny gap that was impossible to bridge. Still, Lu Yin did seem to get a bit closer than Yong Heng had, nearly reaching the top of the cliff. He came to a stop just a few meters away from those atop the cliff, which caused them to shudder as much as it amazed them.

"How about one of you give me a little boost? I will take whoever pulls me up as my disciple," Lu Yin announced as he smiled to those above the cliff.

The young men and women atop the cliff all stared at Lu Yin in amazement. He seemed to be even younger than he appeared, but that surely had to be impossible, right? Somehow, he seemed even younger than the prodigies from the Scion Spire, and each of those prodigies had shattered what people imagined to be possible with their unfathomable natural talent. Multiple generations had been preserved in cryostasis to await the day that a Greater Sancte’s position opened up. Each genius from that tower was regarded as the most talented individual of an entire era.

Upon emerging, the unique nature of the Scion Spire would enable those geniuses to make rapid progress and compete for the position of Lesser Sancte.

Surely, this person could not be from the Scion Spire, could he?

"Who are you?" a woman asked, batting long, adorable eyelashes.

Lu Yin showed a gentle smile as he replied, "I might one day become your master."

The woman’s heart skipped a beat, and she licked her lips. "Are you from the Scion Spire?"

"Silence!" the woman leading the group snapped, shooting a warning glance at the youths with her.

The young woman responded by sticking out her tongue, though she did not dare to speak any further.

Lu Yin’s smile grew brighter. "Congratulations, you guessed correctly."

"Really, are you really from the Scion Spire?" someone exclaimed in surprise.

All of the nearby youths gaped at Lu Yin in astonishment. Admiration filled their eyes, as though gazing at their idol.

"Find a way to pull me up. Whoever does that, I promise to accept as my disciple," Lu Yin said. Even though the chances of any of these people being able to pull him onto the cliff was extremely remote due to their lacking power, who could say for sure? It was possible that one of the young people might have some incredible background and be able to pull Lu Yin up with a mirebound artifact.

Everyone felt motivated.

Nearby, Yong Heng overheard Lu Yin’s declaration, and he made his own promise to the people who stood atop the cliff on the other side. “I will accept whoever pulls me up as my disciple. I am also from the Scion Spire.”

On his side of the cliff, everyone in the second group exchanged looks. Seriously? Another one from the Scion Spire?

In the Tianyuan Megaverse, Yong Heng had not appeared particularly old. At worst, he looked like someone’s uncle. However, thanks to the mirebound artifact spirit seed that he had used to recultivate, he currently looked just as young as Lu Yin. True God was shamelessly copying Lu Yin’s tactic.

“What is the Scion Spire?” someone asked, clear interest in their eyes.

Yong Heng smoothly replied, “I can’t say.”

Everyone was caught off guard by the answer.

On the other side of the cliff, someone else asked Lu Yin that same question. “What is the Scion Spire? Don’t tell us that you can’t say. We’ve done our research. Just share the general knowledge that we should already know.”

Lu Yin proudly replied, “It’s a place for those with the qualifications to compete for the position of the Lesser Sancti.”

People glanced at one another, yet none could argue with Lu Yin’s answer. After all, he technically was not wrong.

Lu Yin had no idea what the Scion Spire actually was, but the name alone was enough for him to guess its implications. It was simply self-explanatory.

The woman leading the youths calmly observed Lu Yin. “Enough. You’re not from our megaverse. Who are you really?”

While fighting below the cliff, Lu Yin had mentioned to Old Chief and the other conscients that he was from the Tianyuan Megaverse, yet no one atop the cliff had heard that. That had been deliberate on Lu Yin’s part, as he hoped to keep a card hidden.

Lu Yin met the woman’s gaze. “Pull me up, and I’ll have him marry you.”

As he spoke, he pointed at Yong Heng.

True God turned around to glance at Lu Yin, and then he looked at the woman. “Agreed.”

The woman’s face flushed. “You two will never come up here. I suggest that you stop even trying. There is a power behind us which you cannot contend with: an Immortal.”

Lu Yin teasingly replied, “Are you sure that you won’t even consider marrying him? Given his strength, he could become a Lesser Sancte at any moment. After all, there is an opening right now.”

This comment startled the woman. “You know about our Nine Odysseys Megaverse?”

“I told you, I’m from the Scion Spire,” Lu Yin retorted. He then looked over at Yong Heng. “Go ahead, tell them about the Scion Spire. We can reveal some information.”

Nearly every eye fell upon Yong Heng, and he shrugged with a sigh. “Alright, I suppose there’s no harm in sharing a little.”

He paused before solemnly stating, “I was frozen within the Octagonal Pavilion, and I occupied the southeastern sector.”

His words caused the expressions of everyone atop the cliff to visibly change.

The man and woman leading the two groups exchanged glances. Could this man truly be from the Scion Spire?

Lu Yin gave a small smile. While he knew nothing about the Scion Spire, there was no chance that Yong Heng was similarly ignorant. How much time had Feng Bo spent in the Tianyuan Megaverse? The first time Lu Yin had heard of the Greater Sancti, it was from Feng Bo. It had become clear that Yong Heng had long since possessed extensive knowledge regarding the relationship between the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and the Spirit Nidus. There was no doubt in Lu Yin’s mind that Yong Heng had even visited the Nine Odysseys, and it was quite likely that the man’s knowledge of the place was extensive.

Southeastern sector? So that’s it.

“Are you really from the Scion Spire?” someone called out.

Yong Heng looked over, a mysterious smile on his face. “Where else would I be from?”

“What about you?” People looked back at Lu Yin, their eyes blazing.

People from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse were fanatical when it came to the Scion Spire, especially their young. They practically worshipped the place, and they believed that anyone who emerged from the tower possessed the potential to become a Lesser Sancte.

Unlike the High Seraph, the Lesser Sancti who originated from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse were genuinely deserving of respect and adoration.

There were rumors that some of the current Lesser Sancti had been frozen in the Scion Spire and even that a Greater Sancte had come from the same place.

Lu Yin calmly replied, “I was frozen in the northwestern sector.”

Everyone’s breath quickened. This was another person from the Scion Spire. Of course, only someone from the Scion Spire could possibly be powerful enough to fight against a Lesser Sancte with such youth.

“Young Lord, I’m Mengmeng! I’ll pull you up!” the long-lashed girl said as she pulled out a whip from her cosmic ring and lashed at Lu Yin with it.

Others hurried to act as well, all of them introducing themselves to Lu Yin and Yong Heng as they attempted to pull the two atop the cliff

Unfortunately, none of their tools were able to even get close to Lu Yin.

“Enough!” A harsh voice rang out from behind the woman in charge. A somber-looking young man with a pale complexion had shouted. His fingers were slightly longer than normal, and he was staring at Lu Yin with cold eyes that blazed with killing intent.
