Chapter 2680: The News
Chapter 2680: The News
Yu Qi returned to the hospital to resume her medical duties, mentally shifting gears from the boardroom to the bedside. She was assigned to the gruelling night shift tonight, and as luck would have it, a sudden and large influx of emergency patients had flooded the ER department, keeping every doctor and nurse on the floor extremely busy.
As a result of the constant stream of emergencies, Yu Qi did not have a single moment to relax or even sit down until the clock on the wall finally showed 3:14 a.m. Only then did the frantic pace of the ward begin to calm down, allowing the exhausted staff to catch a brief, much-needed moment of rest.
As she walked through the polished, dimly lit corridors of the ER department, she noticed a small group of residents and nurses huddled together near a station, seemingly engaged in a very serious and hushed discussion. Curious about the sudden tension in the air, Yu Qi approached them quietly, keeping her footsteps light as she intended to listen in on what they were talking about.
"Are you absolutely sure about this?" One voice whispered.
"There’s no way... Doctor Yu Qi is definitely not someone like that." Another replied firmly.
Hearing her own name being mentioned in such a clandestine manner, Yu Qi’s curiosity was immediately piqued. She remained perfectly silent, leaning against a nearby wall and waiting for them to continue their conversation.
"That’s exactly right. Doctor Yu Qi is not the kind of person they are describing in these posts." A nurse insisted.
"She is kind and professional. We see her every day."
"Well... It must be related to her company. Things are always complicated when that much money is involved."
After listening for a short while longer, Yu Qi still could not quite piece together the full picture of what had actually happened. Deciding it would be significantly faster to ask them directly rather than lingering in the shadows, she stepped forward into the light.
"Hey, what are you all talking about so intently?" Yu Qi asked, her voice calm but clear.
Everyone in the group was visibly startled, jumping slightly when they suddenly heard Yu Qi’s voice behind them. They quickly turned to look at her, their expressions a mixture of guilt and worry.
"Doctor Yu Qi! When exactly did you get here?" One of the nurses asked nervously, tucking a phone behind her back.
"Hmm... I believe I arrived around the time he said, ’Are you sure?’" Yu Qi replied with a small smirk, pointing casually at one of the male residents. "So, please tell me, what is going on? What exactly did I miss while I was in surgery?"
"Doctor Yu Qi, you mean to say you have not seen the news reports yet?" Nurse Shin Teng asked, her eyes wide with concern.
"No... I have been buried in work since I arrived. I did not even bring my phone with me to the floor today." Yu Qi said, shaking her head.
One of the nurses quickly took out her phone, tapped the screen a few times, and showed the trending news headline to Yu Qi.
Breaking News: A mass firing at the prestigious QinYue Group has sparked immediate national controversy. Former employees are claiming wrongful termination, intimidation, and personal vendettas orchestrated by Chairwoman Tang herself.
A portion of the video included in the article appeared to have been recorded covertly during the confrontation meeting earlier that day. However, it had clearly been heavily and maliciously edited to make it seem as though the employees were innocent victims who had done nothing wrong. The clip also featured a prominent segment of Chen Meili, who was crying uncontrollably and sobbing in front of the camera, claiming with a trembling voice that she had been bullied, harassed, and even physically intimidated by Yu Qi.
Yu Qi narrowed her eyes slightly as she watched the flickering video on the small screen. Chen Meili truly intended to play the role of the tragic victim to the very end. Looking at the high production quality of the "leak," Yu Qi could not help but wonder whether the rest of the Chen Family was also deeply involved in this calculated scheme to ruin her reputation.
"So, they really chose this path." Yu Qi murmured softly to herself, her voice devoid of any real surprise.
She did not look worried, frightened, or stressed in the slightest. In fact, the corners of her lips curved upward into a faint, almost imperceptible smile. She had no intention of standing there and explaining the intricate details of her private business to the people around her. Since Chen Meili wanted to play this dangerous game so publicly, Yu Qi would more than happily accompany her until the very end.
"Doctor Yu Qi, what is all this truly about? Is any of it true?" One of the nurses asked anxiously, looking between the phone and the doctor.
"It is not the truth at all. Yes, we did indeed fire a large number of people today, but the company had very valid, documented reasons for doing so. And as for the girl in that video, she was not even on the termination list." Yu Qi explained calmly, her voice steady and reassuring.
"So... she is still working there after all this?" A resident asked, sounding confused.
"Not exactly. She is not even our employee to begin with. She was dismissed from her post four days ago, and she has never actually worked at QinYue Group. She was only a temporary worker at YQ Greenhouse." Yu Qi clarified.
"Oh... So she deliberately chose to post this edited video today because she knew there would be a mass firing at the headquarters? She’s piggybacking on the chaos!" Someone commented, the realisation dawning on them.
