Chapter 434: Lover Boy, And A Connection?
Chapter 434: Lover Boy, And A Connection?
“Isn’t that a good thing?” Rael chimed in. “If she did forget about you, then you can restart your life or something. I sure as shit would be overjoyed.”
“You do not understand,” Adam replied flatly. “The Vault was made to seal my existence itself. So for Solenne to place the location where I’m sealed on the front shelf means something has happened to her.”
He narrowed his eyes once more, causing Rael’s body to stiffen.
Yet unlike before, when he couldn’t do anything, this time, Rael was able to move his head, and even his hand.
Adam was slightly surprised at the sight, so with a snap of his fingers, he increased the pressure again.
Despite that, Rael swiftly adjusted to the pressure and, a moment later, a few surprising pop-ups appeared.
<Ding!>
Primordial Fear: Enemies in a 1,000-kilometer vicinity are inflicted with Primordial Fear. The strength of the effect increases by +5,000% if used whilst your True Calamity Demon racial horn is present. (NEW) Insanity (Level 5) will be inflicted alongside Primordial Fear. Effectiveness scale – (High → Super High).
“…”
Damn.
So just by being around people who can inflict high-level debuffs, I gain special effects? Rael grinned. I really need to get infected with the Hollow Touch. Should I just fly into the Crimson Moon?
But for now, he had to focus on surviving.
He turned his gaze over to Adam, and he was met with a startled look.
“Did you just absorb my essence?” Adam asked coldly.
The air grew heavier, but Rael remained unfazed, only feeling a faint breeze from Adam’s menacing aura.
“Essence? Are you talking about insanity?” Rael replied innocently.
“Insanity is a power I’ve cultivated over the span of my lifetime. No one has reached such a point before; hence, there is no one who can counteract this power. Yet you were able to absorb it within three attempts… You truly are a fascinating human…” Adam narrowed his eyes.
“No, you’re not exactly human, are you? Are you a Chimera? I can feel Demonic and Angelic energies swirling within you, so are you some sort of Nephilim? Hmm… Never have I seen someone as unique as you,” he added.
A shiver ran down Rael’s spine. “You could say I’m a Chimera. It wouldn’t be that far off.”
After all, he had three races, all of which were completely unique from one another.
I’m sure that after I transform into a dragon, the Dragon Race will be added to my list of races as well, Rael thought. But Angelic energy? Is it that egg?
“Keep your head in our conversation, Rael,” Adam said sternly, snapping Rael out of his thoughts.
“Tell me, how long has passed since the First Cataclysm?” Adam asked right away.
“First Cataclysm…?”
“You don’t know what the First Cataclysm is…? Just how old are you?” Adam replied, slightly frustrated. “Very well. Let’s try a different question. Who is the current overseer of the universe?”
“…?”
Adam was speechless at Rael’s inability to answer anything, so he turned to Melina beside him.
“What about you, woman? Can you answer my questions?”
Melina’s brows twitched. “I can’t. I’m not even from your world. I am—”
“From the Depths? Yes, I know,” Adam cut her off. “How are the boys doing there? Did they end up establishing their continents like they said they would?”
“Uhh…”
Rael’s eyes widened. He knows about the Depths?
“Let’s take a step back,” Rael said out of nowhere. “What is your affiliation with Solenne?”
“Oh? You wish to question me?” Adam chuckled. “We were lovers at one point.”
“My condolences…”
“Hmm? No, she was lovely in the past,” Adam dismissed Rael’s comment. “In fact, she was someone I had met on my first journey.”
He smiled. “Solenne was a princess of the Avalon Kingdom at the time. She was a treasure in a sense, and because she also held the title of Saintess, she was untouchable.”
Rael raised a brow. “So you were the one who touched her?”
“Pfft… You could say that,” Adam replied honestly. “I had begun my journey from the Trivaldi Kingdom, and I went to all sorts of kingdoms, doing… certain tasks and trying to find my old friend. Eventually, I stumbled upon Solenne while she was performing one of her saintly duties, the purification ritual.”
He tapped the table, making it vanish in an instant as he stood up and began pacing back and forth. All the while, he continued speaking.
“Our meeting was akin to fate… Or so I had thought,” Adam said, lowering his gaze. “As it turned out, Solenne was immortal, and she had been the princess of multiple kingdoms for several thousand years. She had even started her own religion, the Blazing Sun religion…”
The longer Adam spoke, the more familiar Rael became with the story, almost as if he had heard it before.
But he was sure he hadn’t. It wasn’t possible.
“The Blazing Sun religion was something I had despised because of what had happened in the past,” Adam added coldly. “My friend and I once did something foolish, and because of that, my friend was taken away by the Blazing Sun faction.”
He clenched his fists. “They knew I was affiliated with him… And yet they let me go. They let me get stronger even while knowing that my journey’s true purpose was to annihilate the Blazing Sun religion.”
“And that was when you met Solenne, right?” Rael chimed in.
Adam nodded. “That’s right… Apologies, I went off track a little.”
He took a few deep breaths and continued. “We met during her purification ceremony, and we fell in love at first sight. I kidnapped… Well, that’s not exactly accurate. I took her away from her kingdom at her own request, and we ventured throughout the world, destroying the Blazing Sun religion.”
“Bit by bit, we got even closer, and eventually, we got married,” Adam said warmly. “I was happy, and so was she. Just knowing that I would have someone I love alongside me while I destroy my enemies and search for my friend was enough to make me do anything for her.”
He sounds a little obsessed… but I guess that’s where his Insanity debuff came from, Rael thought, when suddenly, something in his mind clicked.
Right before he used Premium Trickery: Death, he had a chat with Alcetas inside the mind realm. He had even gone inside Alcetas’s mind.
While inside Alcetas’s mind, Rael had taken on the body of Milan Ansar, the childhood friend of Alcetas exactly 8,422 years ago.
Given the timing and the memory gaps inside Alcetas’s mind, Rael couldn’t help but cut Adam’s explanation short and raise the question that had started to plague his mind.
“Say… Does the name Milan Ansar ring a bell?”
I’m uploading a test book that I plan to delete in a week, and then fully release in a few months from now, beta readers and any early feedback is appreciated :]
