Chapter 375: The ’Goddess’
Chapter 375: The ’Goddess’
“The Colorless Goddess…?” Zafira mumbled.
Jane tilted her head. “Were you expecting some sort of grand entrance?”
“Yes?”
“…” Jane facepalmed. “I don’t like fancy entrances. But I did come here because Anubis shared some interesting information with me.”
She narrowed her eyes. “You’re my successor?”
Zafira stared at her for a few moments, then nodded. “I was 3 years old when I first got a Colorless Goddess skill. After that, I kept getting one of your skills every single month. As of now… I have a little over 483 skills.”
“And they’re all mine?” Jane asked, stunned.
Zafira shook her head. “A few hundred are yours, but the others are my skills, or skills that I’ve stolen.”
“Aha… I see…” Jane scratched her cheek, her stoic expression returning. “I might’ve done something stupid then. You weren’t meant to get my powers, much less assimilate with them.”
She took a few steps forward, then leaned in, trying to tap on Zafira’s forehead.
But feeling as if something was off, Zafira took a step backward.
“It says I’m your heir,” Zafira stated. “When I checked it through a device, that’s what it said. Was that really an accident?”
Jane raised a brow. “There’s a device like that? Hmm… but no, I do make mistakes sometimes. I meant to bless someone else, you just happened to be there.”
The moment she finished her words, a throne made of ice materialized out of nowhere. Without wasting a single moment, Jane sat down on it and crossed her legs, continuing to stare at Zafira.
“What did I see in you…?” Jane muttered, when all of a sudden, she grabbed her head, feeling a massive headache begin to form.
She let out a soft groan, then rubbed her temples before meeting Zafira’s gaze.
“What was I saying again…? Oh, right. I think it was a mistake. If you don’t allow me to take back my powers from you, then you’re going to be hunted by a lot of annoying bastards,” Jane stated.
Yet Zafira focused more on the cut-off. This was what happened to Lilith and her. Now it was happening to Jane as well.
Zafira remained silent for a moment, then rolled back her sleeve, revealing 3 letters carved into her wrist.
“…Do you recognize this?” Zafira asked, showing Jane those three letters.
Yet what happened next was a little unexpected.
Jane’s eyes widened as a fierce pressure shot out from her body, knocking Zafira backward, causing her to nearly fall down the temple stairs.
Zafira managed to catch herself, and as she looked back toward Jane, she saw a giant ice spike heading straight for her.
But as it was about to pierce Zafira’s neck, the spike halted, then shattered.
Tiny frost particles lingered in the air, and from them, Jane manifested herself, glaring at Zafira.
“What did you do to me?”
Zafira didn’t back down, and instead, she began explaining what had happened, or at least what she had remembered.
Two beings were fighting, one of them was Solenne, and the other was unknown.
And when Zafira snapped out of her stupor, she saw the three letters carved into her wrist, the same letters that made her heart flutter every time she tried recalling them.
Finally, Jane eased up on the threats and stepped back, a frown on her face.
“I see… this explains a few things,” Jane muttered. “I was doing something a few hours ago when my memories suddenly felt different. Your explanation made me realize that there’s a person I’m supposed to be remembering, but I can’t…”
She let out a sigh. “Very well… until I find out who that person is, you may assist me. If you do well, I’ll let you keep your powers. Uh… my powers, I mean.”
Zafira nodded slowly.
“I agree. But I’d also like it if you could help me with my ascension. For that, I need to know more about you.”
As nice and understanding as Zafira was being, inwardly, Jane reminded her of Lilith.
Why do these two have to be so annoying… It’s not like I chose to get her powers, and now she’s trying to take them away, Zafira thought with a slight frown.
However, if by helping her, that meant she could figure out who this unfinished name belonged to…
“Alright, Zafira Sutekh, I see…” Jane mumbled, then turned to the side, spotting a groggy Lilith.
“And Lilith Sutekh? Are you two sisters?”
“…?”
Zafira’s brows twitched.
“What are you talking about?”
“Her name’s Lilith Sutekh, at least that’s what I’m seeing,” Jane replied plainly, a smirk forming on her face. “Hahaha… maybe your husband married her behind your back? How scandalous.”
“I don’t have a husband,” Zafira replied, her heartbeat increasing slightly as she met Lilith’s gaze.
Then, she tapped the air a few times, sending her a message.
<Zafira Sutekh: Hey. Reply. Now.>
Lilith’s brows furrowed. Then, she sent a middle finger Zafira’s way and began typing with it.
Moments later, the message came.
<Lilith Sutekh: Fuck you.>
“…”
<Lilith Sutekh: Did you marry me while I was asleep? No way… did you…>
Zafira closed the chat box and took a deep breath. Then, she glanced at the three letters.
Could these letters be my husband’s name? Because… there’s no way I married that demonic bimbo. I’m not even into that kind of stuff… Zafira brushed it off.
“Alright, we’re going to leave Anubis’s place. She’ll probably be playing with my cat for a while, so there’s nothing to worry about. She won’t even notice we’re gone,” Jane said plainly.
She turned around and extended her hand. A moment later, a door made of ice appeared out of nowhere. Upon opening it, an unfamiliar land emerged, with a couple dozen floating islands scattered everywhere.
Jane puffed out her chest confidently and spoke. “We’ll be visiting my homeland first. After that, we can begin our search. Oh, and I won’t just go around giving you answers. You will stay beside me like my disciple.”
She tilted her head slightly. “Um… be like a sponge. Absorb whatever you can by being around me. That makes sense, right?”
A look of clarity appeared in her eyes, almost as if she recalled something. Then she continued.
“You may complain all you want, but remember that no one’s going to play fair in this world.”
She pointed a single finger at Lilith. All of a sudden, Lilith’s entire body was covered in ice as she flew over to them, then stopped.
“Having only a single one of you around is going to be boring,” Jane said, her smirk widening. “That is why, as long as we’re together, you two will be undergoing some serious training.”
A shiver ran down Zafira’s spine, but before either she or Lilith could protest, Jane suddenly threw Lilith through the door.
“I’m sure we will have a lot of fun~” Jane added. “Oh, and if you can fly, then do so. The landing is a bit rough.”
With that, Zafira went flying through the door right after her.
The moment she entered that strange world, a fierce pressure enveloped her, as if the gravity had increased severalfold, and because of that, she couldn’t flap her fairy wings.
Because of that, she began hurtling downward, past the floating islands, through the clouds, and finally, the sight of a seemingly never-ending ocean greeted her.
A bit further down, Lilith, who was flailing around and screaming.
“AAAAAAAAAAAH!”
As for Zafira, she took a deep breath and prepared for impact.
Yet as she was about to splatter on the water, she felt a tug on her collar. Moments later, she dashed downward toward Lilith, who was also grabbed by the collar.
The two remained in the air, and behind them was an amused Jane.
“Both of you can’t fly in this gravity… I guess that’s the first lesson then.”
A giant grin appeared on Jane’s face as they suddenly ascended.
And once they were back above the clouds, Jane let go, leaving behind only a few cheerful words.
“First round of training… learn to fly!”
Zafira’s brows twitched as she hurtled down to the water again.
I really don’t like her…
