Chapter 414: Advancement Theory [PART 1]

The farming Xiang Yu clone sat a few feet away from the other six clones who were still busy engineering herbs.

He examined the herbs spread before him – these were his creations.

The first herb he had made was a simple test to see if he could really modify plants to give them the effects he needed.

He decided to call this prototype the Starfall Blossom.

The Starfall Blossom was a seventh-grade herb he had designed with one special feature: helping cultivators form an inner core. As long as it was used alongside the new body refining method he had developed, any body refining cultivator should be able to form an inner core.

It might even boost their physical talent a little.

The herb worked by flooding the body with large amounts of qi. When the cultivator absorbed this qi, they would then use his new body refining method to bring the qi into harmony with their internal energy.

This part couldn’t be automated since it was different for everyone. For him and Li Yao, for example, their internal energy and qi were so powerful they actually pushed against each other. But for others with weaker body refining and qi cultivation, they might not have this problem.

Instead, there was another issue – their qi pathways might not be strong enough to handle the sudden influx of qi which could lead to meridian damage and even qi poisoning.

Now that he thought about it, the whole thing was flawed from the beginning. After considering it for a moment, he decided not to worry about it too much. He would develop a better version when he had more time.

For now, this could be used by peak Foundation Establishment cultivators to enter the Core Formation realm. Since the way inner cores and qi cores formed wasn’t all that different, it should work. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ NovᴇlFɪre.nᴇt

They had quite a few disciples in the Foundation Establishment realm, so this should help them advance.

After the prototype, he had developed the real deal. He picked up a seventh-grade herb, well, actually there were several of them, but the others were just for stabilization and boosting the effects when making pills.

For the main herb, he decided to name it the Chrysalis Flower.

The Chrysalis Flower contained a super powerful stimulant that would force the spiritual root into overdrive when consumed.

The only problem was that while making this, he had noticed something he was actually glad he caught early. When the spiritual root entered overdrive, it might actually get weaker or worse, completely break apart. The reason his own spiritual root didn’t do this was because it entered overdrive naturally when advancing, not from outside stimulation.

When the spiritual root advanced naturally, it created extra potential energy which it burned through to stabilize itself in the new realm. But when he stimulated it artificially without it advancing, it didn’t create this extra potential. Instead, it fed on the existing potential, making it drop a level at best or break completely at worst.

With this problem in mind, he decided not to focus on just stimulating the spiritual root. Instead, the herb would be refined with other secondary herbs that had a rebirth effect to create the Awakening Pill.

When someone took the pill, it would stimulate the spiritual root, causing the potential to start burning. During this process, the rebirth effect would kick in, making the burning potential enter a cycle of consumption and regeneration.

As this happened, the stimulated root would try to burn more and more potential until it reached a breaking point – there was only so much potential a certain grade of spiritual root could burn.

This would force it to spend the excess potential on advancement instead, upgrading the spiritual root. After the upgrade, depending on the pill’s grade, the rebirth effect should wear off and the root should be able to burn through the remaining potential and stabilize itself.

The only problem with this was the rebirth effect.

If done wrongly, it could overwhelm a spiritual root where it couldn’t burn through the excess potential, but also wasn’t strong enough for it to advance – which could lead to other serious problems he didn’t even want to think about.

Xiang Yu spent a few hours running all sorts of simulations and adjusting the variables until he found something that was usable. For the Chrysalis Flower and the supporting herbs – which he hadn’t named yet since there were quite a few of them, over ten now after all the adjustments he had made – he would create a series of them following a specific pattern.

The series would start with seventh grade herbs.

These would make a pill of the same grade for upgrading from low-grade to mid-grade spiritual root. The next would be fourth grade, used for making a fourth-grade pill that advanced a root from mid to high grade. Next was third grade, from high to superior. Second grade, from superior to sacred. First grade, from sacred to divine. Lastly was heavenly grade that could upgrade from divine to heavenly.

Of course, there were other possibilities above that, but at the moment it couldn’t be done since his farming profession was just at the heavenly grade. Although he had managed to make immortal-grade herbs thanks to his creation domain and insights from the World Tree, he didn’t think he was anywhere near being able to make immortal-grade Awakening Pills, or even heavenly-grade for that matter.

This was because the immortal-grade herbs he had made had an over one-hundred-year growth period, even after he had genetically engineered them for fast growth and accounting for the immortal-grade spirit vein.

Even if the Spirit Farmer profession upgraded to immortal grade and gave a two-hundred-percent boost, it would still take over thirty years to grow.

The only hope he was betting on was for the Spirit Farmer profession to gain a major jump in power after crossing the immortal grade, since the jump between heavenly and immortal grade was quite high.

Well, he could also seek out an upgrade path for it, but he wasn’t so sure at the moment. He still needed a little more time to think of something.

After creating the upgrade path for the Truth Seeker profession, he had realized that he shouldn’t just upgrade professions randomly, but should instead plan out the upgrade paths he needs for maximum benefits.

For now, he was still theorizing an advancement path for each of his professions.

As he thought of this, he suddenly realized something and facepalmed.

“Oh wait… can’t I just create the herbs with the creation domain instead of waiting for them to grow?”
