Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4581: A Lapping Tongue

Chapter 4581: A Lapping Tongue

"My Emperor..." Isabella walked towards him, trying to calm him down.

"Isabella, I believed you would stop Tia from divining, but you have disappointed me." Davis glared at her.

"..." Isabella’s gaze churned, instantly turning moist, "You- you can’t say that..."

"Stop it. If you want to punish someone, punish me." Myria stepped forward, "I was the one who encouraged Tia."

"This isn’t about punishing..." Davis raised his hands, looking like he wanted to explain, but he was really limited in his words with the terrifying existences around them.

A second later, Davis dropped his hand, wanting to hug Isabella and console her, but couldn’t because of the sickness.

He slammed his face with his hand, looking frustrated.

"If something happened to any one of you, I swear I will do anything to bring you back, and that could mean the end of our expedition, the end of the realms, the end of us. By placing yourselves in danger, you’re only forcing my hands, but... I understand..."

He took a deep breath, calming himself, "I know I can’t survive in this place properly, so that led you all to make rash decisions. It’s my fault."

"No, it’s..." Isabella bit her lower lip, "My fault... I should’ve listened to you no matter what. It’s unbecoming of your Empress..."

"No... my Isabella is always right."

Davis spread his hands, causing Isabella to instantly dive into his arms. They hugged, not caring if the sickness affected each other anymore.

Davis caressed Isabella’s head, his fingers brushing her purple hair. He couldn’t believe she quickly cried upon hearing his words, since he thought she had become strong in heart and soul. He should’ve known, considering she was the most malleable and affectionate when they became intimate. He knew he had gone too far, even though he was right, so he dropped his cold expression and quickly comforted her.

He was angry that they brought those monsters on themselves, but more than that, he couldn’t bear to see them be hurt. He could only digest that they moved for his sake.

"I won’t say such words again. I take it back." Davis hugged Isabella tighter.

Isabella nodded as she brushed her face against his chest. She sniffled, holding his robe firmly as she took his warmth. She really couldn’t bear hearing such words from his mouth, even though she was prepared for it.

Myria also felt bad. She knew the dangers of divination more than anyone here except Tia and Davis, but she had given her approval since she didn’t want Davis to be out here alone. Even if he died, she claimed that he could revive him, but she didn’t have any confidence without using Fallen Heaven’s torn sheet, so ultimately, they were doomed either way.

Hence, she figured Tia’s divination was the best way to proceed, but she had underestimated what Davis might do if they were all in danger. She failed to consider that, making her feel guilty.

Regardless, she separated Davis and Isabella forcefully, "What is this? How did this happen?"

She tried to investigate Davis, but he moved back again.

"Don’t. It can spread. Cure Isabella before it could latch onto her."

Myria looked at him before she turned to Isabella, her pure life energy encompassing Isabella.

"Tell me what it is."

"It’s the Lunar Shadow Bleeding Sickness. The dose I received couldn’t be considered Primarch Grade, so it’s easily curable."

Myria blinked before she relaxed. It was still within her limits to cure such an illness.

Regardless, she frowned, "Why haven’t you rid yourself of that yet?"

"I have an idea. I’ll tell you later. Until then, endure this disgusting appearance of mine."

"It’s not a problem." Isabella quickly shook her head.

"Thanks..." Davis chuckled wryly, "I shouldn’t have been harsh to you all when you came in search of me to rescue me. I suppose I am blessed in this regard than anyone in this universe."

"You are." Fairy Thunderblaze suddenly echoed, "Any average harem won’t do such a thing for their man since they would be waiting for him to die so they could be finally free. I must admit your harem is something else, daring to move across this heaven-forsaken place despite all the dangers."

Davis nodded, agreeing with her, "I know. I know they would do it, and it feels extremely gratifying to be sought out in this manner, but still, I would rather endure harm than see them be harmed."

He said with pride, causing Myria, Isabella, and Tia to pout.

They disliked that part of him. How could he ignore their feelings of not wanting him to get hurt?

Davis suddenly realized that Fairy Thunderblaze was also here when she could’ve just gone by herself. He ignored this realization and turned to look at Tia.

Tia shook. She lowered her head, "Are... are you still angry at me?"

Davis inwardly sighed. He supposed he had been saved by Tia now. Since they had come all the way here, he knew they had found a safe route to the northern side of the basin, where they could continue journeying and finally appear before Shirley.

He walked towards her, standing in front of her as he held her hand using soul force, which he purified using life energy.

"Did you take some rest during the night?"

Tia nodded but then shook her head. The bags underneath her eyes showed that they hadn’t rested one bit and continued to move. Davis recognized it was the same for others.

This meant that they hadn’t slept like him, yet still made it here. He could only imagine the number of twists and turns they had taken.

His heart softened, his expression turning affectionate, "I’m not angry anymore. I’m just... afraid. What if something happens to you? I don’t have any confidence in being able to heal karmic wounds from this dimension. I could overcompensate, but that could end badly for all of us..."

"I... I won’t do it again." Tia’s eyes turned moist, "I can’t help but have a bad feeling, so I wanted to find you no matter what..."

"Isn’t this entire continent just that bad?" Davis wryly smiled, "Still, I understand. I won’t keep you from using divination anymore since you proved that you could at least charter a path somewhat safely, but don’t divine anything regarding me and the secrets of this plane."

"I won’t. I didn’t divine you. I divined the path to my happiness."

"You cheeky little aunt..." Davis’s heart warmed.

However, he didn’t know that was what she really sought in her divination.

"Alright, since you didn’t rest, we’ll make a camp here. We can travel at dusk and rest again near midnight. Is that agreeable?"

Tia nodded.

Davis turned to look at the others also nodded.

Just as they were about to make a makeshift cave behind the waterfall, they froze.

A gargantuan three-split tongue appeared a few hundred kilometers away, lapping up a huge amount of water just like that before repeating the same motion. Whatever it was, it seemed to be drinking the waterfall’s pure water energy falling from the cliff.

Davis and the others’ hearts shook.

The others may not know, as they cannot recognize it from the three-split tongue alone, but Davis had met it before. It was the Tidal Annihilation Ocean Behemoth. It had awakened, and its position was right around where he would be if he had followed his original pace without Tia and the others appearing.

His heart shook, wondering if Tia had truly averted a disaster.

Myria and the others were truly shaken.

Because they were behind the waterfall, they couldn’t feel any undulations from the outside, just like anything from outside would barely be able to feel their undulations. The waterfall was truly tall and wide, spanning over a few hundred thousand kilometers.

It would take a while for them to exit, so were they-

"We’re stuck here?" Fairy Thunderblaze touched Nadia’s fur to send a physical soul transmission, "That’s a Mid-Level Primarch-level existence. We can’t possibly outrun it."

"We wait until it leaves." Davis said solemnly, "I know it just awakened, so after lapping up some water, it should leave to hunt some prey."

"We can only hope." Fairy Thunderblaze’s expression was grim.

As expected, where Divergents gather, nothing good would happen.

They remained still like a statue behind the waterfall, making no moves while remaining concealed. The three-split tongue even closed in and scrubbed against the obsidian walls as though using it as a tongue cleaner.

They were horrified that it was closing in, but in the end, the tongue went back and never came back.

This was exactly three hours later.

Davis went back to check if the Tidal Annihilation Ocean Behemoth had left. He returned and gave the news.

"Yes, it has left. Judging by the remnant aura, it went the other way."

"Let’s not stay here. We’ll move." Isabella shuddered.

"Agreed." The group was in unison, and they left as fast as they could.

The Tidal Annihilation Ocean Behemoth might come back to drink some water, so before it could return, they needed to scram.
