Chapter 4066: One Of Us
Chapter 4066: One Of Us
Zanbril didn’t try to put it on his neck either. "I must apologize to Werxia. I don’t understand what happened. From the information I got about the pair of collars, their only power is to link both lives. Mine merged with my body without any repercussions."
"You were lucky, you know?" It was then that Kentucky spoke.
Zanbril, Rean, and the others turned in his direction. "Because Zanbril’s collar didn’t try to kill him?"
"No, actually, yes, both ways," Kentucky explained, looking at Werxia’s Celestial. "What’s your name, senior?"
"Me? Hombar, why?" Hombar asked.
Kentucky nodded and continued. "If Hombar hadn’t intervened and the collar had merged fully with her body, it would definitely kill her, and since she would be linked to Zanbril, so would he die. You see? You are lucky."
Zanbril felt a chill on his back. Indeed, even as the collar was trying to kill Werxia, it was also merging with her. It would have done so without Hombar’s intervention, and no one thought about it at that moment. "Hombar, you did well."
Hombar’s task was to protect Werxia, but ultimately, he was a Zentian Empire’s Celestial. Zanbril’s life was definitely more important. "It is my duty."
"So..." But he also thought of something. "The collar was made to kill Zanbril, is that it?"
The hall went silent with Hombar’s words.
Noticing everyone’s reaction, Hombar quickly continued. "Don’t look at me. I’m just pointing out a possibility. It just looked way too much of a coincidence."
Rean disagreed. "Hardly so, don’t you think?"
"Explain," Zanbril quickly asked, touching his own tattoo. The truth was, he didn’t think it was the case because of where he acquired his collars, but he decided to wait for Rean to explain his reason before mentioning it.
"Why go through the trouble of waiting for a princess to be selected to kill you with the collars? To kill the princess, too? Your tests already got so many of them killed, so what’s the point? If killing you was the objective, it would be much better to make the collar activate the moment you put it, regardless of whether you found a partner or not. Yet, your collar merged with you just fine," Rean explained his thoughts. "It would be a very idiotic way of doing it. The princesses who came for this selection are far from being worth the trouble of using an item of the Celestial Plane just so they get killed with you."
Zanbril and his protectors sighed in relief. Indeed. Although it wasn’t guaranteed, Rean’s words were most likely correct. It made no sense to kill Zanbril in such a manner. "Then just what happened..."
"Can’t you ask who produced this collar for assistance?" Rean asked.
However, Zanbril shook his head. "Contacting the Celestial Plane is anything but easy. Besides, to find a specific person would be even more of a challenge, especially since we don’t know who made them. We have the Werdlem Network, but it doesn’t reach the Celestial Plane. It would be weird if it did."
Zanbril sighed as he spoke more of the collar’s origins. "These collars were something from our Zentian Empire’s Treasure room. They had been there forever, but no one wanted to use them, even if their effects weren’t anything that impressive to be worth keeping them there. You could say that the only worthwhile thing about them was that they were made with materials of the Celestial Plane. The Collars the princesses used during the tests were just a very poor copy made with the materials of our A1 Universe."
Rean agreed with him. Linking lives wasn’t difficult if you put your mind into it, especially for Rean. He could definitely make something similar with what he has here, definitely even better if given enough time.
Yet, at that moment, Sister Orb’s voice echoed in Rean and Kentucky’s minds. [It’s compatibility.]
’Hum?’ Their attention was piqued. ’How do you know?’
[I’ve seen quite a few legendary level formations already, haven’t I? Those inscriptions and runes aren’t anything I’ve seen before, but they aren’t too far from the best runes we saw of the Legendary Level. I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the collars don’t just link lives, but also require compatibility between both parties. What kind of compatibility? That I don’t know. In any case, the collars are definitely at the Legendary Level, too. Probably Peak Legendary Level, but made of runes and inscriptions of the Celestial Planes that we haven’t seen yet.]
Rean and Kentucky looked at each other. Should they tell Zanbril about it? Oh well, it is good to have him owe them a favor.
"Can I take a look at the collar?" Rean extended his hand. "I’m pretty good at formations, and I’ve seen quite a few Legendary Level ones. This collar is something similar that came from the Celestial Plane, no doubt. I can still use those Legendary Level runes as a reference to make an educated guess."
Zanbril’s subordinates cut in. "We have Legendary Level Formations Masters, Zanbril. We can ask them instead." They just thought it wasn’t safe to let anyone else touch the collar since Zanbril’s life was connected to its pair.
Zanbril pondered a bit. "I understand your concerns, but when would one of them be able to look at it?"
"This..." His protectors couldn’t give an immediate answer. Reaching the Celestial Realm and becoming a Legendary Level Formations Master were two completely different things. Even the Zentian Empire only has two of those. They held statuses higher than most of the Imperial Family, definitely above someone so far down the throne-inheriting line like Zanbril.
The same went for any of their Blacksmiths, Talisman Masters, or Alchemists of the Legendary Level. It wasn’t for no reason that Hombar, a Celestial himself, only had a single pill of that level. Zanbril too. That said, it would be a miracle if they could get their Legendary Formations Masters to look into the collar in the next ten years, and that was already being optimistic. As there are only two, they definitely had their schedules packed.
Zanbril threw the Collar to Rean. "Check it, but be careful."
Rean caught it while Zanbril’s protectors felt their hearts stop for a moment. Wasn’t Zanbril treating that thing way too lightly? Well, they knew Zanbril had always been like that.
Rean took several tools from his Pocket Dimensional Realm and pretended to analyze the collar under everyone’s gaze. Of course, if even Sister Orb couldn’t analyze it with the system support, let alone him. It was already excellent that she could infer so much from her experience hacking runes and messing with Legendary Formations of their own plane.
Around two hours later, Rean took a deep breath and gave it back to Zanbril. "That is the limit of what I can do. Even if I spent another hundred years, I won’t be able to see much more than this."
"See what?" Zanbril and the others asked.
"I might be wrong, but I believe it doesn’t just link lives. Linking lives is definitely what it does first and foremost, but it also requires compatibility," Rean explained.
Then, he shrugged. "As to what kind of compatibility, now, that is already too much for me to peer into. Sorry."
At that moment, Fruadixa, one of the princesses who were not chosen by the formation, spoke. "T-Then... doesn’t that mean one of us could still be chosen?"
Sure enough, that piqued everyone’s interest.
