Ling Shu was the last of the Void Resonance's Six Sons. All of the six Divine Fruit Heavenly Emperors who had accompanied the Legendary Sect Master had finally revealed themselves. Li Luo sighed in his heart as he looked at the red-robed lady standing atop the jade steps.
"Haha, isn't it natural for me to be here? The Sect Master made arrangements for all of her resonances, and the spatial fog resonance was left to me to protect," said the lady known as Ling Shu with a vivacious smile.
Yan Changsheng and Su Ying nodded lightly. They had already guessed in their hearts that Ling Shu would be here. All of them had received their respective assignments from the Sect Master all those years ago, and as one of the Six Sons, it was expected that she had her own role to play.
"It seems like the two of you had it best, staying together for all these years. Meanwhile, I had to guard these deathly silent ruins all alone, being constantly reminded of the past," said Ling Shu.
She hopped lightly down the steps, setting off a gentle twinkle with every step as she waltzed gracefully like a butterfly. While she had spoken casually and somewhat jokingly, one could sense the heaviness and sorrow in her voice. Having to remain alone in these ruins for countless years was unimaginably depressing.
"It has been tough on you," Su Ying consoled.
Ling Shu was the youngest of the Void Resonance's Six Sons, and the one with the most upbeat personality. Spending so much time alone was not easy for someone like her.
"Regardless, it seems I have endured through it," she said, leaving behind a streak of red light as she appeared beside Li Luo, accompanied by a fragrant breeze.
"New Sect Master, did you enjoy my welcoming celebration?" asked Ling Shu with a wide smile on her face.
Li Luo paused. So it turned out that she was behind the entire show with the formations. He hurriedly replied, "You're too kind, Senior. A junior like myself isn't worthy of such an entrance."
Ling Shu wrinkled her nose. "Ah, please don't call me 'senior'. I don't want to be addressed like an elder. You can just call me 'Ling Shu'."
It could be said that she was very particular about this point, considering the fact that she had always maintained her youthful appearance. However, Ling Shu waved her hand and said, "Forget it, let's not be concerned with all these minor things and cut to the chase. Do you want to retrieve the spatial fog resonance? I can take you to it."
Seeing her in such a hurry caused the trio to glance briefly at each other and smile helplessly. They then hurriedly followed her and ascended the jade steps towards the Palace of Stars.
Ling Shu fluttered around like a butterfly on the way up. She occasionally asked Li Luo a few questions, then she would float over to hold Su Ying's arm and chatter with her, causing the quiet ruins to be filled with the echoes of her voice. In the end, all of them arrived before the Palace of Stars.
The moment one stepped within it, it was as though the stars were shifting right before their eyes, and the scene around them turned into a starry sky. Meteors continuously arced across this sky, and at the very front of the palace was a dazzling golden star. Atop it was a magnificent throne that exuded an aura of nobility and authority.
The throne was engraved with a myriad of resonances, emanating a vast and imposing presence. In the middle of the throne was a violet praying mat, a ball of light silently floated above it. It was silverish-white in color, and within it was a Divine Fruit. The space surrounding the Divine Fruit continuously distorted, releasing an endless amount of white fog.
The fog was magical, capable of blocking out anything and everything; even time itself could be obscured by it. Anyone under its influence would find it impossible to find the answers they were looking for
That was the spatial fog resonance.
As Li Luo took in the sight of the esoteric Divine Fruit, he let out an emotional sigh. The final dual resonance of the Legendary Sect Master had now been revealed. He could sense that the divine aura it was radiating was incredibly vast and boundless. In fact, it was nearly as powerful as the light and extinction resonances. Clearly, it had touched on the quasi tenth-grade over the years as well.
It was no wonder it had been capable of blocking off all attempts to scry information regarding the Sacred Void Resonance Sect in the past. Similarly, this was why the ruins could not be found by any ordinary Heavenly Emperors.
"This is the spatial fog resonance left behind by the Sect Master. I can sense that it has surpassed the ninth-grade. That said, ordinary people cannot handle it. Only the New Sect Master is able to ascend the throne to take it away," explained Ling Shu as she pointed at the Spatial Fog resonance.
Li Luo paused for a moment before asking, "I no longer have the Absolute Resonance Seed, so how can I control the spatial fog resonance?"
"Even without it, you've once refined a Ten Divine Seals Absolute Resonance Halo. If the Sect Master is no longer alive, then you're the rightful heir. Even if the Sect Master were still alive, you would be considered the acting Sect Master and would only be second to her in terms of authority. Thus, your identity allows you to take the spatial fog resonance for yourself. That said, the way to take ownership and control it is a problem you have to resolve on your own. Regardless, it's more important to take the spatial fog resonance away first," said Ling Shu as she stroked her chin.
Yan Changsheng and Su Ying nodded in agreement.
"Alright, I'll give it a try." said Li Luo.
He didn't hesitate any longer and stepped forward, traversing across the starry sky and landing on the throne that seemed to bear the weight of countless resonances. As he approached, a mysterious light flowed around the throne, enveloping him. Then a terrifying destructive force poured out.
It was at this moment that he heard the rumbling of an Absolute Resonance Halo turning. He could see an illusory Absolute Resonance Halo appearing behind him, despite it having collapsed when the Absolute Resonance Seed was extracted from his body.
The horrifying power that poured out of the throne in a deluge-like fashion quickly vanished, then Li Luo landed safely just before the violet prayer mat. He stared at it in a daze, wondering, "Is this where the Legendary Sect Master of the Sacred Void Resonance Sect cultivated in the past?"
It was as though a strand of the Sect Master's aura still remained on it. The silverish-white radiance from the spatial fog resonance lit his eyes up as it slowly floated over to him.
"The Spatial Fog resonance is not rejecting you. Clearly, you've obtained its approval and can take it away," Ling Shu shouted excitedly.
Li Luo stretched his hand out, gingerly reaching towards the Spatial Fog resonance. Ling Shu heaved a sigh of relief, ecstatic about the fact that her long wait was finally over. However, Li Luo's hand stopped just before coming into contact with the Spatial Fog resonance.
Ling Shu hurriedly asked, "What happened?"
He turned his head and looked deeply at Ling Shu with a slight smile. "Ling Shu, can I ask you a simple question?"
"What is it?" she replied suspiciously.
Li Luo's calm voice resounded through the starry sky. "Are you aware that my parents entered these ruins decades ago?"
Ling Shu paused to think before nodding. "Of course I know about them. They used a space resonance in order to reach this location and accidentally walked in. At that point in time, they were too weak to trigger the protective formation of the sect. They even managed to take the Absolute Resonance Seed away. To be honest, though, I played a part in that. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been able to escape the obscuring fog."
The protective formation was exceptionally wondrous. Li Taixuan and Tan Tailan were merely Dukes when they came here, so they were akin to ants before it. As a result, their presence was ignored. Meanwhile, the likes of Heavenly Emperor Jiang and the rest experienced starkly different treatment as they possessed ample power to threaten the formation. Thus, it had been provoked into action.
Li Luo remained noncommittal as he continued, "Other than them, there were others who also entered. One of them was called Qin Lian. Did you know that a devil seed was implanted within her inside these ruins? Some time after, she was corrupted and controlled by a Grand Devil King who claimed to be in these ruins. However, it looks like there are no traces of anyone other than you here."
Ling Shu frowned. "What are you trying to say?"
Li Luo then turned to face the enchanting lady. "What I'm trying to say is that the one who sowed the devil seed, the one suspected of being a Grand Devil King, is none other than you. I have some other suspicions. Are you really the protector of the spatial fog resonance? Or perhaps it would be more correct to say that you're a convict and the spatial fog resonance and the ruins are keeping you imprisoned."
