Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1540

Chapter 1540: Section 1541 Who is the Protagonist Chapter 1540: Section 1541 Who is the Protagonist Bright candlelight illuminated the wooden cabin, casting a thorough glow. Fragrant aromas wafted from the kitchen, filling the entire cottage with a warm and cozy sensation.

In such a relaxing atmosphere, Vannerson began to speak about what happened in the classroom during the day.

Midora's expression was always amiable, but as Vannerson narrated, occasional surprise flickered in her eyes.

For instance, the topic Angel chose initially surprised Midora.

Midora had known Angel would talk about the Alchemical Illusion when she went to see him earlier, but this was a relatively nuanced subject. Meanwhile, the interaction of energy and matter was a much broader topic. It included Alchemical Illusion, but the theme was too vast. Midora believed that Angel could be an excellent teacher, but starting with such an expansive topic, could he handle it?

Midora's concern was actually similar to Vannerson's feelings at that time.

Both were confident Angel would have no issues with Enchantment.

But the topic he chose was too broad, inevitably touching upon other schools of thought, even beyond the scope of Metallography. If anyone asked questions, Midora worried Angel might find himself struggling.

As Vannerson continued, however, Midora's eyes brightened more and more.

Not only did Angel speak very well, but he also analyzed the topic from incredibly astute angles. Even for Midora herself, finding such precise perspectives to elucidate would not be easy.

When Vannerson mentioned that Angel allowed five minutes for questions, Midora's feelings once again turned to worry.

If there was a question time later about the Alchemical Illusion, it would likely revolve around that subject. However, Angel had given people the chance to ask questions early on when analyzing the bigger picture, which would undoubtedly invite questions about other factions.

Midora even thought that if someone with a quirky personality asked questions, they might just pick a fight.

Indeed, Midora's worries were confirmed in the next moment.

Vannerson spoke of Dufan.

As Vannerson recounted his story, Yeliya continued to scold Tugan, who had tears in his eyes, in the kitchen.

Although she had just stopped Midora, Yeliya didn't think Tugan was blameless. She knew Tugan was joking, but such jokes might not bother Midora and Yeliya, yet other wizards could take offense and come to resent Tugan.

Additionally, as Tugan had been quite dejected these past few days–wasn't it just about Shan not advancing?–Yeliya had wanted to lecture him for some time and seized the opportunity for a thorough reprimand.

Seeing Tugan realize his mistake and whimper pitifully, Yeliya finally stopped her nagging.

After lecturing Tugan, Yeliya was ready to chat with her friend. Turning around, she found her friend sitting at the table, sipping tea leisurely and listening to Vannerson speak outside.

Yeliya also took a seat across from her friend and perked up her ears to the sounds from outside.

At that moment, Vannerson happened to mention Dufan.

“He actually chose Dufan to ask questions,” Yeliya clicked her tongue twice. She had spent hundreds of years in the Sky Mechanical City and understood the habits of the alchemists all too well.

Dufan had immense talent; his Alchemy Technique was ranked among the top of Mentor Ashiliye's students in the Research and Development Institute. But he was petty and convinced that he had the most formidable technique among his peers.

Angel, a newcomer and even younger, had become a member of the Research and Development Institute, which had long been a source of resentment for Dufan.

Yeliya heard that Dufan often complained in his class that Enchantment was brainless and simple, not even comparable to blending; in reality, his sarcasm targeted Angel.

A person like that, attending Angel's class, would likely be looking to cause trouble.

As expected, Vannerson was now recounting Dufan's first question, which was clearly posed from a position of superiority, inquiring with the tone of testing a teacher rather than seeking knowledge. It was not a plea for enlightenment but a deliberate provocation.

“Angel just had to pick him for a response, what bad luck,” Yeliya sighed softly.

However, her friend opposite her sipped her tea and cavalierly remarked, “It's not necessarily bad luck; maybe Angel did it on purpose?”

After Vannerson finished detailing Angel's response, Midora tapped her finger on the table: “Dufan's first question, was that meant to set a trap?”

“Yes,” Vannerson nodded and proceeded to relay Dufan's second question.

Hearing Dufan's question, Midora frowned, a rare disagreement flashing in her eyes.

The issue of demonic blood energy posed by Dufan was something not even he could answer! Of course, asking a Mentor about something one doesn't understand made sense. However, if Dufan's question were genuinely to be answered, the time and effort required would likely consume an entire class session. If not answered, it would be Angel who couldn't save face.

Dufan's question was inherently malicious.

For Midora, the kind of person he least appreciates is this kind.

“Did Angel give an answer?” Midora asked.

“He did answer, and…” After nodding, Dufan wore a look of both admiration and emotion: “It was spectacular.”

Midora, who was somewhat concerned, turned to look with curiosity upon hearing Dufan's praise.

Dufan then recounted everything that had transpired in the next three minutes. Following Angel's train of thought, he witnessed how a towering pillar reaching the skies was constructed in the barren lands, and the sheer joy of it all was palpable in his narrative.

After listening, Midora was also taken aback for a moment.

He hadn't expected Angel to create a new alchemy formula in just three minutes, resolving the issue.

Even the “Alchemist” Matthew would probably find this difficult to achieve.

Midora stroked his beard, his heart filled with comfort: Angel's thinking always leaps out of the ordinary, non-conventional. This is his style, and also one of the reasons Muse values him so much.

Midora still remembers when Angel was learning potions from him. Although his operation and practice were lacking, his breadth of knowledge was exceptionally wide. For this reason, his perspective often surprised Midora.

That Angel was able to create an original formula on the spot today shows not just that his knowledge is broad, but that its depth has also caught up.

Upon hearing this, Midora felt completely at ease. With Angel's current foundation, he no longer needed to worry about his teaching performance.

Vannerson then continued with Angel's punishment for Dufan and the naming of the alchemy formula. Midora held back his laughter, yet from the kitchen came two bouts of giggles.

One of the giggles, Vannerson was familiar with–it was Yeliya.

The other giggle was softer, and although Vannerson couldn't recognize who it was, he felt it was vaguely familiar.

Who could it be?

Vannerson kept his question to himself, but he continued to narrate the subsequent events.

Angel's approach to thematic analysis also had Midora nodding repeatedly. When the topic reached the Alchemical Illusion, Vannerson's eyes again revealed a look of admiration.

“Master Pat brought out an alchemy box called the Cage of Shadows, which is an alchemy tool he refined. It contains a very interesting illusion,” Vannerson narrated with extreme excitement.

Midora thought Vannerson had gleaned some technique or learned something from the Alchemical Illusion, which might explain his excitement. However, after listening to Vannerson, Midora understood the boy was excited not about the technique, but about this form of presentation.

“This is a brand new way of presentation, using illusions to perform a play. The story is very complete! Though the plot is somewhat odd, it doesn't hinder its perfection,” Vannerson said excitedly: “This is an emerging art form, and I believe it will soon become a trend in the Southern Domain Wizard World!”

Midora also understood Vannerson's excitement. Generally speaking, alchemists have some artistic pursuit to a greater or lesser extent. Therefore, many alchemists, in order to make their creations perfect, would even take courses in sculpture, artistic expression, aesthetics and the like, which clearly shows their inclination.

But they were currently talking about the Alchemical Illusion and Angel's class, so how did the topic shift to art?

“If there were more exciting scripts, it would be even more perfect. For instance, an epic featuring me as the protagonist, presented in this new artistic way, would definitely be more thrilling. After all, my life is far more spectacular than that of the main character named Alex,” Vannerson boasted, but then remembering he was on someone else's turf, he looked at Midora somewhat sheepishly: “Of course, if Master Midora's experiences were made into a script, it would certainly be even richer.”

Midora was rather indifferent to these things and was about to steer the conversation elsewhere, but at that moment, the kitchen door was suddenly pushed open.

“You just mentioned, who was that protagonist?” A figure walked out, looking at Vannerson with a curious gaze.

Vannerson looked back puzzled.

He was just guessing who else could be in the kitchen besides Yeliya.

Now the answer had finally appeared.

A short old lady with a peacock feather ornament made from nails on her head, and the nails themselves were also vividly colored.

It was none other than Nail Granny from the Nail Alchemy House!

Vannerson heard that Nail Granny and Yeliya were apparently best of friends; her presence here was thus unsurprising.

“The protagonist you mentioned, who is that?” At this moment, Nail Granny approached, her expression a little odd as she asked again.

Vannerson hesitated for a moment: “The protagonist is me?”

Nail Granny rolled her eyes at him in exasperation: “I'm not talking about you, the other one.”

Vannerson recalled, and with some hesitation, responded: “Alex?”
