Chapter 3779: Bigger Than Entire Kingdoms
Chapter 3779: Bigger Than Entire Kingdoms
Towering structures dominated the central region and palatial buildings reached toward the heavens while countless administrative halls occupied entire districts.
Surrounding those central structures were endless layers of smaller buildings extending outward in every direction. There were courtyards, training grounds, markets, residential districts, libraries, gardens, meeting halls and Formation complexes.
Everything existed on a scale that bordered on absurdity.
What surprised Lin Mu most was the terrain itself. Unlike ordinary cities that flattened the land before construction, the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect had incorporated nature into the city.
Several mountain peaks stood within the city boundaries. Each peak was heavily developed and covered with structures. Buildings clung to cliff-sides, bridges connected mountains, terraced gardens climbed steep slopes and waterfalls descended between districts.
Entire neighborhoods had been constructed around natural features instead of replacing them. The result was both orderly and majestic. One could easily mistake this place for the core headquarters of a major immortal sect.
Yet Lin Mu knew the truth.
This was merely the administrative center of the Outer Court. The actual specialized divisions were located elsewhere.
The Sword Division occupied its own city. The Spear Division had another. The Alchemy Division possessed a separate administrative center. The Formation Division maintained their own territory.
The same was true for healing, beast taming, Weapon forging, law enforcement, logistics, and dozens of other departments. Each one existed almost like an independent city. Just thinking about it made Lin Mu understand why the sect needed an entire world to function.
Little Bull stared openly. "So big..."
Zhou Ren laughed. "Wait until you see the Inner Court."
Little Bull immediately looked horrified. "Bigger?"
"Much bigger."
The young man fell silent.
Zhou Ren grinned proudly at the reaction. Lin Mu used the opportunity to continue observing. His greatest frustration at the moment was the cultivation seal. Normally he would have already flooded the area with his immortal sense.
Within moments he could have analyzed vast portions of the city.
Unfortunately, doing so now would expose him. As such he had to rely on more subtle methods. Thankfully, he possessed something unique. Neither He Jian nor Zhou Ren paid attention to him for a moment.
Lin Mu quietly closed his eyes and when they opened again, Spatial Perception activated. The world instantly transformed as the visible scenery faded into the background and space itself became visible.
Countless layers of dimensional structure appeared before him and within that structure, the true foundation of the city revealed itself.
Lin Mu nearly inhaled sharply.
The entire city was covered by formation arrays but not dozens, or hundreds. It was one vast interconnected system. Countless formation nodes spread throughout the division as every district connected to another, every building linked into larger structures and every larger structure merged into an even greater network.
The result resembled an enormous web stretching across hundreds of kilometers.
The formation was so large that even Lin Mu struggled to comprehend its full scope. And that was only what he could see immediately. As he looked farther, something else became visible.
Thin streams of energy extended from the city’s formation network into the distance.
One.
Ten.
Fifty.
Hundreds.
The channels stretched beyond the horizon and they connected the Central Division to other locations across the continent.
Lin Mu followed several of them visually. Some led toward distant mountain ranges. Others vanished toward separate cities. A few extended so far that even Spatial Perception lost track of them.
His mind immediately began calculating. These were connecting arrays and large scale formation pathways. The Central Division wasn’t operating independently, it was merely one node in an even larger system.
The realization was astonishing.
’No wonder this sect controls an entire world.’ Lin Mu thought and the more he observed, the more impressed he became.
He had seen many formations before. Some were more complex. Some were more ancient. A few were stronger. Yet none approached this scale. The amount of resources required to construct such a system would bankrupt countless immortal powers.
The maintenance costs for a month alone would be enough to cripple lesser sects. Yet the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect maintained it continuously. Lin Mu finally understood one of the reasons behind their dominance.
Their infrastructure alone surpassed most powers.
His gaze shifted downward and he attempted to locate the world’s leylines. Unfortunately, they remained hidden. Layers of formations concealed them completely and even Spatial Perception could only reveal faint traces.
Still, those traces were enough.
Massive currents flowed beneath the land and vast quantities of energy circulated through underground pathways before feeding into the formation network above.
Lin Mu became increasingly certain of one thing.
The sect was utilizing the world’s natural leylines. Perhaps not all of them, but certainly a substantial portion. At least everything beneath the Outer Court Continent appeared interconnected.
The scale of planning required for something like that was terrifying. Such a project would likely require generations of formation masters. Perhaps even hundreds of thousands of years.
Lin Mu continued observing until the strain began increasing.
Though Spatial Perception didn’t directly use immortal qi in the traditional sense, prolonged activation could still create subtle fluctuations. He decided not to take unnecessary risks and the technique was withdrawn.
The world returned to normal.
A moment later, Little Bull blinked and pointed downward. "Elder!"
ElderHe Jian turned. "What is it?"
"Are we there?"
The old man followed his gaze.
Below them, an enormous port came into view. Rows upon rows of flying ships occupied massive docking platforms. Some were smaller than the vessel they rode while others were enormous floating fortresses stretching for kilometers.
Thousands of cultivators moved throughout the port and the entire place operated like a living organism.
Elder He Jian smiled. "Yes." The old man stood. "We’ve arrived."
The ship slowly descended as formation arrays activated beneath the docking platform. Several guiding lights appeared and the vessel settled smoothly into its assigned berth.
As the ship finally came to a stop, Little Bull looked around excitedly and Lin Mu maintained the expression perfectly.
