Chapter 2754 The Legend Of Ghost Boy And The Harbinger Of Doom!

Chapter 2754  The Legend Of Ghost Boy And The Harbinger Of Doom!

A minute later, the darkness finally dissipated, and the people could see again.

"Heavens! What was that darkness?"

"It was as if I stepped straight into the netherworld itself!"

The crowd let out relieved sighs, their voices trembling from the eerie experience.

"Wait… what happened to them?" Someone finally pointed at the young man and his entourage.

What they saw next left them speechless.

The once-proud entourage now looked like they'd lost a battle against a demon king. Their clothes had been reduced to pitiful rags, barely clinging to their bruised and battered bodies. Some were sprawled across the street in poses that defied human anatomy, their expressions frozen in sheer horror.

But the young man? Oh, he was in an even worse state.

He lay on the ground, ass up, like a sacrificial offering to the gods of humiliation. His once-pristine robes were now torn to shreds, barely covering his dignity. But the real masterpiece? His swollen buttocks, now puffed up like two glistening red apples, wobbled slightly with every faint breath he took.

And then, there was his head—shining like a freshly polished divine artifact.

"DAMN! SO BRIGHT!" A man covered his eyes, momentarily blinded by the gleaming reflection of the sun.

"What in the world happened to him!?"

"Where did that boy and the bird go?"

Confusion reigned as the bystanders struggled to make sense of the absurdity before them. It was as if they had collectively suffered a hallucination.

"Wait… did we just see a ghost?" someone murmured.

"In broad daylight?" another replied skeptically.

"It could be a powerful ghost! Some cultivate too, you know!"

"The deities save us! We barely escaped with our lives!"

"That fool must have offended the ghost! Look at him! Is he even still alive?"

A few brave souls approached the young man and, after some hesitation, confirmed that he was, indeed, alive—though his dignity had long since departed this realm.

Rumors spread like wildfire. Within hours, the entire city was abuzz with terrifying whispers of the vengeful "Ghost Boy," who punished all who dared offend him. And at his side? The black-feathered harbinger of doom, the dreaded spirit bird of misfortune!

As if to confirm these fears, shopkeepers soon reported mysterious disappearances of valuables—items vanishing without a trace, as if sucked into the void itself.

Several of them had security arrays that recorded events within their shops. When they reviewed the recordings, all they saw was merchandise seemingly sinking into shadows and vanishing into thin air.

"The ghost has come to collect debts!"

"Those who defy it will be punished!"

Panic ensued. By evening, merchants and citizens alike scrambled to appease the mysterious spirit. The city streets transformed into an impromptu festival of offerings, with baskets of jewels and gems carefully placed atop roofs, doorways, and hanging from rafters.

Later, under the cover of night, these 'offerings' mysteriously vanished—snatched away by the very bird they were meant for. This, of course, only fueled the belief that the rumors were true.

Meanwhile, far from the chaos, Meng Bai and his mischievous companions huddled in an alleyway several kilometers away, catching their breath.

"Haah… haah… haah…" Meng Bai panted, hands on his knees, his face pale from sheer exhaustion. "That was…"

"AWESOME!" Ashy cheered, puffing out her little chest with pride.

"TERRIFYING! IT WAS TERRIFYING!" Meng Bai countered, nearly collapsing onto the ground. "Never do that again!"

"Don't worry, they won't be able to chase us after that beating," Xiao Yin reassured him.

"Yeah, I made sure to twist all their ankles!" Xiao Yang boasted. "They won't be walking straight for a week at least!"

"And I made sure that idiot's parents won't even recognize him! I plucked out all his hair! And his eyebrows!" Ashy cackled gleefully, her beady eyes twinkling with mischief.

"THAT'S NOT SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF!" Meng Bai groaned, rubbing his temples.

He had started the day expecting some sightseeing and maybe some nice street food. Instead, he had just participated in what could only be described as an urban legend in the making. One moment, he was being dragged around to food stalls. The next, he was launching a string of insults at some arrogant noble. And before he knew it, he had helped commit what was essentially a supernatural assault in broad daylight.

It was simply too much for his poor heart to take.

"I am NEVER going out with you three again!" Meng Bai declared dramatically.

"Aww, don't say that!" Ashy flapped her wings. "You'll come with us again tomorrow. We'll explore another district!"

"Yes, yes!" Xiao Yang nodded enthusiastically.

"No, no!" Meng Bai protested, shaking his head vigorously.

"Yes, you will." Xiao Yin grinned, using her tail to make Meng Bai nod against his will.

Meng Bai let out a deep sigh, his soul practically leaving his body.

"I have no choice in this matter, do I?" he muttered in defeat.

"Nope!" The trio chimed in unison.

Meng Bai slumped onto the ground, utterly defeated.

But his mischievous companions weren't about to let him rest.

"Come on, get up!" Ashy urged, hopping onto his head.

"Yeah! There's still more city to see! The sun is still up!" Xiao Yang pulled at his right arm.

"Let's go! Let's go! I want to see more treasures!" Xiao Yin pulled at his left arm.

"Let me REST!" Meng Bai groaned.

"You can rest all you want," Xiao Yin cooed, her voice eerily sweet. "Just stay still… We'll take you around!"

Meng Bai's eyes widened in horror.

"Oh no… not again…"

Before he could protest further, he was yanked into the air, his body helplessly flailing like a ragdoll.

"AHHHHHHHHH!"

And so, once again, Meng Bai learned what it felt like to be a kite.

It wasn't until the sun finally set that the trio had their fill. The twins took Meng Bai back, while Ashy slipped away to listen to more gossip and check on their unfortunate victims. Of course that was just to make sure whether they needed more 'treatment' or not. And on the way back, Ashy collected her rightfully offered 'gifts'.
