Chapter 1191: Pawn Play
Chapter 1191: Pawn Play
Asura Royal Court.
Boom!
The Crown Prince smashed the pillar beside him with gritted teeth as he watched the battle in Octavia on a mirror-like artifact.
"How did this end up happening? From what we know, the EGC does not possess such high-leveled spatial abilities!" The man snapped.
Seated by the sand table, the Queen's expression looked grave.
She watched the Asura flags fall one after another while the EGC flags increased in number.
There was yet another color, gray, that signified the external forces at play.
"Getting worked up will cost us time. It's better we mobilize everything at hand. Send a letter to your sister. It's time she makes a move." The Asura Queen put a purple flag near the gray ones as she said so.
The Crown Prince gritted his teeth and walked away.
The Asura Queen closed her eyes and leaned back.
"It looks quite grave. Your Majesty, I don't think I can hold on for long…"
…
Vampires of EGC flooded Octavia.
It did not take more than a few days to locate gates four, five, and six.
Only two remained to be discovered.
Discovered however did not mean captured. The Asuras fought back fiercely, letting the EGC capture only two gates so far.
The battle beneath the volcano was still raging with the Smoldering Maw yet to be taken.
"Ptoo!" Roy spat a mouthful of spit mixed with blood. Wiping his face and staring at the four Asura generals in front, a spear of lightning manifested in his hands. "Come, you bastards. I alone am enough to take you down."
Among the four generals, the burly one stood out the most due to blood covering his face and body.
Having just engaged in a fierce battle with Roy, he knew the man's strength the most.
The burly general readied his club and said with a solemn tone, "Your arrogance baffles me. Unable to defeat one, you dare to take on four?"
"You're nothing more than a beaten dog. One more attack and you'll be banished from the realm of living."
Roy was bickering to stall for time. There was something wrong with the volcano in front. It had suddenly stopped spewing lava and had calmed down.
It was calm but gurgling internally, making Roy worried of it exploding like a bomb. Although volcanoes did not do such a thing, who knew what these demonic Asuras would do.
A slender general with a sharp appearance to the burly figure's side. He was in clean daoist robes, as if he had been attending a banquet and not a war.
"Stalling for time won't help, Roy. It's already too late." The Asura said with the corner of his lips curved up.
"You're right. It's better you all come together than waste my time. I've got gates to capture." Roy provoked.
The slender general shook his head with a sigh. "Why do you Evures never listen? If you listened, such a war would never happen. Sigh, forget it. Menikel, go, finish what you started."
The burly figure slammed the club on his shoulders and made a throat slashing sign. "This is the end, Roy."
Roy pushed against the ground and sprinted forwards, his lightning spear thrust forward with the momentum.
With a loud boom, Menikel's club smashed the lightning spear, kicking off a dust storm.
In the very next instant there was another spear in Roy's hand, ready to pierce a hole in the general's body.
From afar, Lith watched the scene with a neutral gaze.
The Asura side had moved a lot of pieces and from their side only the queen and the bishop moved one after another.
On the chessboard, Lith noticed a strange thing.
Even though many pieces were being killed, there was an enemy pawn still moving to the other end, about to become a game changing piece.
He frowned and tried a few methods but in all, the pawn did not stop. Other pieces came in between to protect it and got themselves killed.
"What's happening…" Lith turned to the battlefield.
"Royyyyyyyyy—!" Menikel shouted and jumped down from the skies, about to smash Roy's head with his club.
Roy's wings fluttered open and flapped, making him vanish in an instant.
A thunderous boom later, Menikel jumped out of a crater and clashed with Roy once again.
So far, nothing seemed wrong to Roy who was in battle or to Lith who was watching.
Lith gave instructions to Lucas to move Zhao Shi towards Roy.
On the battlefield, Lucas held Zhao Shi like a ragdoll and charged to where the generals were.
Every step they took, thousands of people killed each other with magic spells, physical artillery shelling, and through sheer brute force, as if neither side cared whether they lived or died.
A suicidal legion was the deadliest legion.
As Zhao Shi reached closer to Roy, Lith saw a change, not in the battle between Roy and Menikel, but on the faces of the generals.
The slender general smiled and did some mysterious hand gesture, as if nobody could see it.
By the time Lith could decipher it, the battle between Menikel and Roy reached its climax.
Menikel roared and swung his club while Roy threw his spear one last time.
Menikel once again smashed the spear with his club and dashed madly at Roy.
Roy braced himself and kept his gaze locked on the charging burly man.
Four steps… Three steps… Two steps…
When the general was just a step away…
He suddenly stopped, his eyes bulging as if in disbelief.
Roy frowned too.
"What…" Menikel stared down and saw a sword's blade coming out of his chest with his beating heart completely intact.
A scornful snicker resounded behind him. "Sorry general, but your sacrifice was much needed. The preparations are finally complete. You'll be remembered."
The slender general appeared beside him, licking his lips like a maniac.
He twisted his sword and the beating heart got cut into pieces.
Menikel couldn't understand the betrayal he had just gotten, meeting his demise in what he believed was unjust and unfair to the years of contribution he gave to the Asuras.
Roy was completely silent, not saying a single thing. These Asura bastards were known to be cruel, but to go this far to even take the life of their own important member… just what was up with them?
Lith had a similar question, but soon, he saw the pawn on the enemy side reach the last line and transform.
In the actual battlefield, the gurgling volcano finally erupted.
