Tribulation of Myriad Races

Chapter 2116: How Pitiful (1)

Chapter 2116: How Pitiful (1)

Death Realm.

Su Yu spent several days preparing for his coming attempt at resurrection.

Inside the research center.

The slightly exhausted Su Yu said, "We're almost ready. Now, we only lack a practical attempt. Any further theorizing is pointless at this point. Time to practice on He Tu."

"..."

He Tu listened in silence. For some reason, he was suddenly engulfed in sadness. Practicing on him? Was that guy listening to himself? Why was that guy being so straightforward? That sounded so scary.

Su Yu looked at He Tu and said, "I don't want to give you too much hope. Failing after that will only lead us to despair. It's not a bad thing for us to feel less confident as I'm truly unsure if this can work."

He Tu raised his brow, but soon, he laughed. "Fine. Even failure is no big deal. As a death spirit, I don't fear death."

"Yes, you fear death." Su Yu nodded matter-of-factly, leaving He Tu speechless. What was he supposed to say to that?

"Let's go." Su Yu looked at everyone and said, "Let's go near the border of chaos. I doubt we can complete the resurrection within the River of Time. We might need to perform it in my world."

He Tu did not seem to mind that. He said, "It's not a bad thing for me to resurrect in your world. That will grant me my own dao right off the bat. I no longer need to compete with anyone."

Su Yu laughed as well. With that, he stood up and left. Li Yi and the death spirits followed. They looked quite expectant.

Resurrection.

This had never happened before. Would it work? Nobody could be sure.

***

Once again, a bunch of experts were gathered at the border of chaos.

As of late, Su Yu's people had been going there frequently. North Heavenly King and the others were very nervous. They no longer dared to approach the border. Even the sealed experts were starting to feel alarmed.

They could all see how fast Su Yu's side was growing in strength. Each time these experts flew past their territory, these experts would feel stronger than before. And today, Su Yu was passing by with a group of people again.

Death Imperator, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly spoke, "Human Lord Su, I hear that...you're trying to resurrect death spirits?"

Boom!

At that, the other pillars of like started flickering.

Su Yu was surprised to hear that. He looked down and smiled. "Where did you hear that from?"

Death Imperator answered, "Your people have been moving through this place frequently. I heard some of their conversations."

Su Yu smiled, "Looks like they're quite talkative."

"So it's true?" Instead of manifesting only his body, Death Imperator manifested a dark figure and said, "Human Lord, do you know that this is almost impossible? The possibility of resurrection is nothing but a legend."

Su Yu said, "I'll still try. Death Imperator, are you interested in returning to life as well?"

Death Imperator said, "Who wouldn't? Nobody wants to remain a death spirit forever. We are only death spirits because we have no choice. After a single failure, we have no choice but to continue existing in this form. Every death spirit is filled with regret. And every death spirit wishes to make up for that regret."

There was no arrogance or overbearingness in his voice. He was still speaking softly.

Suddenly, Su Yu laughed. "Death Imperator, were you a scholar prior to your death?"

"I did read some books back then, but those were all dao essays. That's different from how you define scholars nowadays." Death Imperator asked, "Do you need our assistance in your coming attempt?"

Su Yu blanked out slightly.

"You mean..."

"We...wish to see some hope, even if this might not be the opportunity for us." Death Imperator said, "Over the countless years, many have thought of resurrection, such as the super geniuses like Human Emperor and Culture King. But nobody has ever succeeded. Each failure is the same as a massive blow to all death spirits. We much prefer to see more hope. The hope of returning, even if the hope has to come from our enemy."

He sighed, "As long as it works, it signifies that there is still hope for us. It signifies that we might not remain in this form forever. I believe any death spirit with actual wisdom will not stop your attempt. They might even help."

Su Yu was quite surprised to hear that. But upon thinking about it more, he nodded in understanding.

Yes. Any death spirit with proper wisdom would wish to see him succeed, even if he was an enemy to them. At the very least, his success would bring them hope. Those trying to stop him would be those without much wisdom.

Then again, Su Yu was never afraid of their attempt to stop him.

He looked at Death Imperator and said, "You have a clear mind, Death Imperator. If you wish to help, there is indeed a way for you to contribute. When I attempt to remove the imprint from the death spirit dao, the dao might resist. Can you help calm the dao when the time arrives?"

Death Imperator thought about it. After a short moment, he nodded, "That might really happen. But it won't be easy for me to calm the dao. I suspect that the resistance of the dao might not do much. You should be more wary of the death spirits instead."

Su Yu frowned slightly.

Death Imperator continued, "I suggest that you don't keep too many death spirits by your side during the attempt. They might end up turning into the tools of the death spirit dao to deal with you.

"People like us, or South Heavenly King, or even North Heavenly King might all turn into tools of the death spirit dao."

Su Yu had a thoughtful look. That was quite likely to happen. He had been neglectful about that before. He had brought quite a lot of death spirits with him. Even top experts like South Heavenly King and Marquis Lanshan were among his entourage, which would further complicate things.

They were his people, so he couldn't kill them. But merely suppressing them would also be a difficult task.

Furthermore, these death spirits might even attempt something drastic like self-detonation during a critical moment. Su Yu was fine with his enemies self-detonating, but what about his own people?

"Thank you for the reminder, Death Imperator." Su Yu said, "You are clearly a smart one. You are much better than Dizhiluo. My offer stands. If you wish to join me, kill Dizhiluo and I'll consider it."

"..."

Suddenly, Dizhiluo's face manifested. He looked furious, as though he was on the verge of roaring in rage. But he forced himself to calm down. That dog was still around. He could already see the dog flying in their direction.

Before long, Fat Ball arrived. He asked curiously, "Are they stopping you? Do we kill them?"

As he asked that question, he took his shoe out again. Since Su Yu had stopped suddenly, he assumed that a fight was starting. He didn't enjoy fighting, but Su Yu was someone who would look for his master. Thus, standing in Su Yu's way was the same as standing in his way. He couldn't tolerate that.

Su Yu smiled and said, "No. Death Imperator is quite a reasonable one. Of course, it is inevitable that he will have some brash and disobedient subordinates under him. Such subordinates are actually quite nice to have when you're facing your enemies."

He was speaking the truth. He had quite a number of brash subordinates as well. Many were still suggesting that they fight Hundred Battle King to the death. Of course, Hundred Battle King had such subordinates under him as well.

These people were necessary to any force. Some were truly brash, while some were deliberately acting brash. And some did it in a calculative manner as that was what their superior needed.

The superior might not always accept these brash suggestions, but most of them still enjoyed hearing these brash subordinates out. For example, Su Yu did not intend to fight Hundred Battle King anytime soon. But he still enjoyed hearing some people chanting something like "death to Hundred Battle King".

It was only natural that there would also be such individuals among Hundred Battle King's people.

Death Imperator said nothing about Dizhiluo. Rather, he said, "I wish you success, Human Lord."

"Thank you."

Su Yu smiled and left.

Following behind Su Yu while wagging his tail, Fat Ball asked curiously, "Why is he talking to you? Is this what people call a dagger hidden in smiles?"

"Impressive! You have learned even that saying!"

As Su Yu chuckled, Fat Ball declared, "I'm a cultured dog!"

Clearly, Fat Ball had reached this conclusion after meeting the self-proclaimed cultured tiger previously. After all, he was very well-read as well. And it sounded nice being called a cultured dog. He was still feeling quite competitive after he failed to defeat the tiger previously.

Su Yu laughed.

As they moved, he asked, "How's your devour dao?"

"I can eat and bite everything, but I still feel like something is missing."

Fat Ball said gloomily, "I don't know what I'm missing. Is it because I'm too stupid?"

"It's hard to say." Su Yu said, "Maybe this has something to do with your dao. That tiger called you the divine sun devouring hound. However, you have assimilated into the Myriad Realms. Your dao is now connected to the River of Time. Culture King and Time Sage had even helped you pioneer your own dao. I suspect that isn't your original dao.

"Both Time Sage and Culture King were knowledgeable enough with their Heaven Gate. Since they named your new dao the bite dao, I believe it is still quite different from the devour dao."

This was Su Yu's conclusion after some thought. Fat Ball was not a wild cultivator. He was someone who had received the guidance of two supreme experts. There must be a reason for his new dao to be called the bite dao instead of the devour dao.

Su Yu said, "To bite and to devour. Both sound similar, but they aren't really the same. The act of devouring only requires you to swallow something. But biting...perhaps you need to bite without swallowing?"

Even as a cultured dog, Fat Ball was confused. He was very good at gardening, but he wasn't too knowledgeable about anything else.

He asked curiously, "Biting without swallowing? What does that mean?"

Liu Hong coughed and explained, "Let me put it this way. I can bite you to death, but I disdain swallowing you since I dislike your disgusting taste. But when you devour something, you need to swallow it. To digest it. To make it a part of you. But the act of biting is madness. Ruthlessness. An unyielding spirit refusing to give up before killing the enemy. As the saying goes, a dog won't bark before biting—"

When Fat Ball looked at him, Liu Hong coughed awkwardly and said, "Actually, I'm half a student of Lord Culture King. Senior Fat Ball, we're family. I am only explaining what I understand about biting and devouring."

Fat Ball nodded, but he was still confused. Thus, he returned his gaze to Su Yu.

Su Yu said, "Liu Hong's explanation is apt. To bite is to go mad. To not give up before your enemy is dead. Simply put, you, Fat Ball, are a bit too...friendly."

"Friendly?" Fat Ball blinked, "Explain in simpler terms."

Su Yu said, "You lack viciousness. You lack madness. In short, Liu Hong is telling you to turn into a mad dog."
