Zhou Yan paced around the room excitedly. “Do you realize what this means?”

“What?” Su Wen asked, intrigued.

“It means you’re not just a writer; you could also enter into the entertainment industry,” Zhou Yan exclaimed.

“That’s not a good idea,” Su Wen replied, her mind immediately going to Heng Yang’s reaction if he found out. He had been against her attending the signing event, let alone pursuing an entertainment career. Even though he hadn’t been involved in her life, she couldn’t just think about herself.

Su Wen didn’t want to let Heng Yang down.

“Why not?” Zhou Yan pressed.

“It’s not my goal. I just want to focus on my own business. Writing a book isn’t even my ultimate goal; it’s just a way to make ends meet since I’m short on cash,” Su Wen explained, her gaze dropping. “You can probably tell I’m not a natural-born author. I struggle with writing.”

Zhou Yan disagreed but could sense Su Wen’s lack of interest in the entertainment industry.

“Alright then! I’ll channel your energy into making bags!” Zhou Yan joked sarcastically, making Su Wen laugh.

“What’s wrong with making bags? I have got a bright future ahead, you’re still helping out with my family’s business too,” Su Wen teased back.

“Haha… I don’t mind. Just remember to give me a VIP membership when you open the shop. And if there are any new designs, send them my way pronto,” Zhou Yan chuckled.

“Don’t worry! You’ll be the first to know about any new releases,” Su Wen assured her.

The two chatted a while longer, but Su Wen couldn’t fall back asleep. She headed to the kitchen and found that Su Xiu had left breakfast for her before leaving. Even though Zhou Yan had already eaten, the aroma of the corn porridge was too enticing to resist, so she joined Su Wen for another meal.

“Are you having breakfast or lunch?” Zhou Yan asked.

“Both for me,” Su Wen replied, already hungry from missing breakfast earlier. The bowl of corn porridge paired with pickled cucumbers was crisp and refreshing.

“How’s the writing going? When can I expect the draft?” Zhou Yan inquired.

“I’ll have it to you by the end of the year at the latest,” Su Wen promised after a moment of consideration. “But if you can help me cancel some of the upcoming signings, I can speed up the process.”

Zhou Yan scoffed. “Forget it. I’ve already arranged four signings for you. Two in the south, one in Haicheng, and the last one in the capital. I’ll be heading out for an interview with Ai Shang magazine tomorrow, and then I’ll leave the day after.”

Su Wen’s expression fell as she calculated the timeline. “By the time we finish all four cities, it’ll be almost New Year. The travel time is taking up half of our schedule.”

“Don’t exaggerate. It’s normal to spend time travelling, and we need to cooperate with local bookstores and media for promotion. It’s a learning experience for us,” Zhou Yan reassured her.

Su Wen shot Zhou Yan a sceptical look. “Travel time shouldn’t be this significant.”

In twenty years’ time, travel will be much faster with planes and high-speed trains. But for now, they are stuck with slow express trains, especially since two of the cities are still under construction.

“I can’t help but worry. The Su family’s flagship store is opening on New Year’s Day, and there’s so much to do. Plus, with Heng Yang not around, I’ll be gone for a month. I’m concerned about leaving my sisters alone,” Su Wen expressed her concerns unhappily.
