Chapter 929 - Double Standards
Chapter 929: Double Standards
Wei Zhijian and Li Xiangrong also called out, “Dad, Mom.”
Sheng Yilan then asked, “Why is everyone here? Aren’t you going up?”
Li Xiangrong looked at Old Madam, replying, “We can’t go up until Zhiqian is here.”
“We’re all supposed to stand around and wait for him?” Wei Mingxiao frowned unhappily.
“If you’re tired, you can wait in your car,” Old Mister said coldly.
Wei Mingxiao was at a loss for words.
Was it a matter of whether he was tired or not?
He just wanted to understand Wei Zhiqian’s intentions. He had gathered everyone here, but he himself was late.
If it had been anyone else, the old folks would have lost their tempers.
But when it came to Wei Zhiqian, they thought nothing of it.
Wei Mingxiao couldn’t bear the double standards.
“When will Zhiqian arrive?” Wei Mingxiao had to ask.
“Soon. He’s on his way,” Old Master Wei said lightly.
Sheng Yilan looked around but didn’t see Wei Keli. She asked, “Where’s Keli?”
Li Xiangrong didn’t know either. “I’m looking for him as well. I haven’t seen him since I arrived, and he didn’t answer my calls.”
“What’s the hurry? We just need to bring him back,” Old Madam said.
Sheng Yilan faked a smile. “I mean Keli should come back quickly and take us upstairs. It’s inappropriate that so many of us have to wait here for him.”
Old Madam pursed her lips. It was as if it wasn’t obvious that she was referring to Wei Zhiqian.
It sounded as though Old Madam was referring to Wei Keli not yet returning and making them wait.
But wasn’t she actually referring to Wei Zhiqian?
Old Madam said plainly, “Even if Wei Keli is here, he has to wait for Zhiqian to arrive before he can go up.”
“This… why is this so?” Sheng Yilan said, “Mom, if it’s true that Keli made a mistake, we won’t cover it up. But it’s two separate matters, isn’t it? How can it be that he requires Zhiqian’s permission to return to his own home?”
“It’s due to his misdeeds that everyone has to be present before he can enter, in order to prevent anyone from destroying the evidence,” Old Madam said. “We’re already being very accommodating to Wei Keli by not using force to enter his place.”
Sheng Yilan really couldn’t comprehend it. Wei Keli wasn’t picked from the streets, nor was he from another family or some distant relative’s family.
He was the old folks’ great-grandson.
Why did they dislike him so? It was as if they were dealing with an outsider.
They simply had no tolerance for the youngster.
Wei Zhiqian and the Tan family arrived while they were speaking.
Wei Zhiqian always followed proper etiquette.
Even though he disliked Wei Mingxiao’s and Wei Zhijian’s families, he still greeted them with courtesy.
Wei Mingwen and his wife also greeted the Tan family.
The Tan family then greeted the old folks.
However, they didn’t even bother with Wei Mingxiao’s and Wei Zhijian’s families.
“Wei Keli hasn’t returned yet,” Wei Mingwen said to Wei Zhiqian.
“I know. My men said that he’s at the theater watching a movie with Yuan Keqing. This is a family matter and not a police case, after all. They can’t just barge in and bring Wei Keli and Yuan Keqing out. They might even disturb the normal operations of the theater and the other guests watching the movie. So they’ve been waiting at the exit.”
Wei Zhiqian glanced at the time. “The movie is almost over.”
“Let’s head upstairs first,” he said.
“Wait a moment.” Wei Mingxiao stopped him. “Keli hasn’t come back yet. It’s not appropriate to enter his house without his consent, is it?”
Before Wei Zhiqian could say anything, Old Madam sneered and said, “Didn’t you also just say that we should go upstairs first? Why didn’t you likewise say that we had to get Keli’s consent?”
“It’s not the same — I’m his grandfather,” Wei Mingxiao said.
“And Zhiqian is his uncle,” Old Madam followed.
Wei Mingxiao was speechless.
This was unreasonable.
Wei Zhiqian smiled and said, “If Second Uncle feels that it’s inappropriate, then we can all wait in our cars for Wei Keli to return. It’s fine either way.”
Without waiting for Wei Mingxiao to answer, Wei Zhiqian ordered, “Keep an eye on the entrance to Wei Keli’s house.”
Wei Mingxiao had no words.
The Tan family didn’t raise any objections.
Zhou Jingan and Yu Hanxia made way for Tan Wenci and his wife to chat with the old folks by getting out of the old folks’ car.
But because of this, Wei Mingwen and Xiao Menghan had to stand by the car.
It was as if they were waiting on them by the car.
“No, this is inappropriate.” Tan Wenci waved his hand and didn’t get in. Instead, together with Wei Mingwen and their respective spouses, he stood outside the car to speak with the old folks.
Wei Mingxiao was silent.
He couldn’t help but look at Zhou Jingan.
Not to mention Wei Zhijian and Li Xiangrong, even he and Sheng Yilan had been standing beside the old folks’ car for some time.
Why didn’t he give up his seat for them earlier?
Zhou Jingan pretended not to notice Wei Mingxiao’s gaze and brought Yu Hanxia to the entrance of the building to chat with their colleagues.
Strictly speaking, those were Yu Hanxia’s colleagues.
However, Zhou Jingan knew them as well; they were all familiar with one other.
Everyone was waiting below Wei Keli’s house.
At that point, Wei Keli and Yuan Keqing had finally finished watching the movie.
Once it had ended, Wei Keli and Yuan Keqing left the theater.
They followed the stream of people heading towards the exit.
Just as they walked out, they were waylaid and apprehended.
Yuan Keqing was shocked. “What are you doing! Brother Keli!”
Wei Keli, too, was alarmed.
Before he could speak, he heard the person who grabbed him saying, “Young Master Wei sent us here. Your phone wasn’t picked up, so we could only wait here. We need you back at your residence to verify something.”
Wei Keli remembered that he had turned his phone to silent mode when he was watching the movie, so he really wasn’t aware of any calls.
When he came out, he didn’t immediately switch his phone back because it was too crowded.
He planned to do so after exiting.
Yuan Keqing was listening as well, and asked, “What is it about?”
“You’ll know when you return home. We don’t know what it is about either. We are just following Young Master Wei’s instructions and have come to pick the both of you up,” the person said.
“It seems more like a kidnapping to me!” Wei Keli said unhappily.
They were shaken.
“I’m sorry to have startled you,” the man said lightly. “Please come with us.”
“I drove here myself,” Wei Keli said in a low voice.
“We will drive the car back for you. You and Miss Yuan have to take our car,” the man then said.
Yuan Keqing sensed that something was amiss.
This wasn’t an invitation.
They clearly meant to bring them back by force.
Nothing good would come out of this.
However, they couldn’t avoid going home.
As long as they were in B city, there was no getting around it.
“Why do we have to take your car?” Yuan Keqing asked. “It’s not as if we will try to escape.”
“Besides, you look like you’re kidnappers. How do we know that you’re really sent by Uncle?” Yuan Keqing knew that Wei Zhiqian disliked her, but that did not stop her from flaunting her status as a member of the Wei family.
