Chapter 292 - Get Even with Tan Mo
Chapter 292: Get Even with Tan Mo
“So, basically, you only treat them as your family if it benefits you, am I right?” Zhou Jingan mocked them as he checked his watch. “Well, you guys can stop with the begging. Time is up anyway. You can go now. Who knows, they might actually let you in although you’re 30 minutes late.”
The color drained from Yuan Keqing’s face the moment she heard that.
If Zhou Jingan had said it was time for them to leave and was willing to let them go, then it could only mean that she would definitely be late now.
With a wave of his arm, Zhou Jingan and his agents got back into their own cars and left without a trace. It was as if nothing had ever happened.
Just how they had suddenly appeared and blocked their car, they disappeared from their sight without warning.
“Let’s go! We should hurry.” Xu Mingjing urged her daughter and the driver into the car. “We might be able to make it.”
All they could do now was hope for the best.
Yuan Keqing struggled into the car, and once the driver was in, Xu Mingjing ordered him, “Step on it. Drive as fast as you can! The street is still empty now.”
Wei Zhiqian had done them a favor keeping the road out of public use. Xu Mingjing let out a sigh of relief, unable to believe that Wei Zhiqian would make such a mistake that he forgot by keeping the road blocked off and empty, they could speed as fast as they wanted.
If they drove fast enough, they could still make it to the exam venue in time. According to the rules, as long as Yuan Keqing wasn’t more than 15 minutes late, she could still participate in the exam.
“Zhou Jingan calculated the time it would take us to get there under normal traffic conditions, but he completely forgot the fact that the street is completely empty now.” Xu Mingjing analyzed the situation.
Yuan Keqing finally saw a ray of hope and let out a sigh of relief. It was as if she had finally found something to hold onto.
However, as soon as Xu Mingjing finished her sentence, a lot of cars suddenly joined them on the road, seemingly coming out of nowhere.
It didn’t take long for the street to be filled with cars once again as the traffic lights began to work normally.
The street was once again as crowded as it should be during rush hour, and the driver had no choice but to slow down.
“Mom! What do we do now?” Yuan Keqing wailed after seeing the situation they were in.
What Xu Mingjing hadn’t factored into her calculations was that Wei Zhiqian had never made a mistake in his life and never would.
As soon as Zhou Jingan left with his people, the traffic controls on the street were naturally lifted since they didn’t need them any longer.
“D…don’t worry,” Xu Mingjing tried to comfort her daughter as she hugged her tightly. “Even if we are 30 minutes late, I’m sure we can talk our way in. Are they really going to be so ruthless? This exam is the most important one in a person’s lifetime. There’s no way they’ll let something like this ruin a person’s future, right? I’m sure they’ll let you in if you’re a few minutes late…”
“But…aren’t there a lot of news stories about examiners not letting students in even if they’re only 16 minutes late? I’ve seen those, and they are really strict about it.” Yuan Keqing exclaimed with tears running down her face. She was completely terrified.
“…Keqing, you have to be mentally prepared,” the mother said. “You have to be mentally prepared that you might not be able to attend this first exam… I’ll do my best to try to convince them to let you in, but…but if it doesn’t work, then we’ll have no choice but to skip this exam. You’ll have to work hard on the other exams and make sure you do super well in them. Fortunately, you’re taking the arts exams, so it should be okay if you lose a few marks. That’s why you have to make sure to be at your best for the rest of the exams. Don’t let what happened today affect the other exams.”
The mother paused and said, “Also, don’t forget, your dad and I are here too. Even if you don’t get a good score, we’ll still be able to find a way to get you accepted by Beijing University.”
Upon hearing that, Yuan Keqing finally calmed down a little. Her fear of not being able to attend Beijing University had finally subsided.
They soon arrived at the exam venue, where a lot of parents were waiting outside.
Xu Mingjing checked her watch and was really surprised by how accurate Zhou Jingan had been.
They really had gotten there 30 minutes after the exam had started, not a second more and not a second less.
Xu Mingjing pulled Yuan Keqing out of the car and ran toward the venue.
Unfortunately, they were stopped by the examiners.
No matter how Xu Mingjing and Yuan Keqing begged, they just wouldn’t let her in.
“Please lower your voices,” the examiner in charge warned the mother and child. “If this keeps on and affects the examinees inside, we’ll have to report you to the police. Being noisy around the venue is against the rules and is punishable by law.”
The parents that were waiting outside for their children to finish their exam inside had been watching the mother and daughter as a form of entertainment until the examiner reminded them that being noisy outside would affect their children inside.
No form of entertainment was more important than their children’s futures, and they began to criticize Xu Mingjing and Yuan Keqing.
If the examiner really reported them to the police, Yuan Keqing might even miss the next exam after lunch.
They quickly quieted down, and the mother decided to find a decent hotel for Yuan Keqing to rest and calm down in.
The only thing they could do now was make sure that Yuan Keqing would do well in the rest of the exams.
They didn’t visit the Tan family that day as Xu Mingjing wanted Yuan Keqing to remain calm until the exams ended. She comforted her daughter by assuring her that they would do that after the exams had ended.
And that became one of the biggest driving forces for Yuan Keqing to finish her exams.
As soon as her exams ended, she would be able to get even with Tan Mo for making her miss an exam.
…
The last day of the high school leaving exams was on Friday.
Tan Mo had returned from Beijing University that night.
Just as the Tan family was having dinner, Xu Mingzhen asked, “I wonder how Keqing did in the exams.”
“Who cares?” Tan Jinyi scoffed and reminded his mother of what Yuan Keqing had done to them. “Mom, did you forget what she tried to do to Mo Mo when she took the exam? That Keqing tried to ruin her exams by telling her that Wei Zhiqian had been hurt.”
“Luckily, our Mo Mo is super smart and could still get a full score despite handing in her exam 30 minutes early. What would have happened if Yuan Keqing had really gotten what she wanted? If Tan Mo hadn’t gotten a full score on that, she would never have gotten her title of top scorer that year with a full total score,” Tan Jinsheng added.
“They’re right,” Tan Jinqi nodded in agreement. “Wouldn’t it have been unfair if she didn’t get a full score when she had the ability to do so? I mean, even if Mo Mo didn’t get a full score, she would still be able to get into Beijing University. But she would never be able to enjoy all the resources she’s having now. All the top six universities would not try everything to invite her to study at their universities, and Professor Guo and Professor Zhao probably would never have even noticed her.”
