Chapter 214 - Amateur Methods
Chapter 214: Amateur Methods
Yuan Qishan spoke up from the sidelines. She seemed to be enjoying watching everything unfold. “That’s right. Why don’t you tell us?”
She wanted to see what Tan Mo would say.
Tan Mo shook her hand away from Shen Jingyi’s grasp.
When Shen Jingyi had first taken hold of her hand, she’d felt goose bumps rising all the way up her arm.
She retracted her hand and glanced down at it.
Sure enough, little goose bumps had even surfaced on the back of her hand.
Tan Mo rubbed her hands together and shook them a little bit. She appeared quite puzzled. “After spending all night finishing writing it, I sent the script to Director Liu and Professor Zhao. That’s why I wasn’t anxious to check to see if the tablet could be switched on.”
Shen Jingyi stuttered, “You…you…”
At that moment, she truly didn’t know how to respond. She had been rendered completely speechless and simply kept on stuttering. It was almost as though she had forgotten how to speak.
Yuan Qishan, who was standing next to her, didn’t seem to be any better off.
Her eyes widened as she stared at Tan Mo. Then, she glanced at the mess on the table before looking at Tan Mo once more.
“You finished writing it? You’ve really finished?” Yuan Qishan shrieked.
“Of course.” Tan Mo looked at them, seemingly in surprise. “You guys assumed that I’d only saved the script on the tablet, right? Naturally, I had a backup file. I’d even sent it to Director Liu as soon as possible just to be on the safe side.”
Yuan Qishan and Shen Jingyi had been trapped by Tan Mo’s words.
No matter how much they’d schemed, they could never have predicted that Tan Mo would have submitted the script to Director Liu immediately after finishing it.
Most important, they had assumed that since Director Liu was right here, nobody would have thought of submitting it late at night.
Wouldn’t that have been a bit excessive?
After all, she was supposed to meet them in the morning. She’d be able to discuss everything at that time.
Professor Zhao nodded his head. “I saw Tan Mo’s email when I checked my inbox this morning.”
There were always students emailing him questions regarding their assignments. This was especially so during the holidays.
So Professor Zhao always checked his email first thing in the morning.
He had seen the script that Tan Mo had sent.
He had yet to read it. He had been planning to browse through it while he ate his breakfast.
Director Liu took out his phone and checked his inbox. He exclaimed in surprise, “She did!”
He explained to Tan Mo, “I didn’t know you had sent it since I had yet to check my email.”
Director Liu glanced at his inbox now. “It was sent at 3:57 am sharp. When did you finish writing?”
“Probably around 3:50 am. After which, I checked through it once. After confirming that there were no mistakes, I sent it to both of you,” Tan Mo replied.
“You started writing it last night and stayed up until 4:00 o’clock in the morning?” Director Liu was shocked.
“That’s right.” Tan Mo nodded. “Since I had already promised to finish one part, I had to see it through.”
On a second glance, dark circles were apparent around Tan Mo’s eyes. It was evident that she hadn’t had a restful night.
Even though she was young and even though her skin was soft and tender, she clearly looked quite tired.
Shen Jingyi clenched her fists. She’d never expected Tan Mo to actually finish it.
What’s more, she had actually submitted it to Director Liu and Professor Zhao before the stipulated due date.
“I never expected you to be so meticulous. We were worried over nothing.” Shen Jingyi was doing her utmost to hold back her rage. She forced out a smile.
Tan Mo smiled until her eyes became little crescents. “I was worried that something like what happened this morning was going to happen. My tablet got wet and, if my manuscript had been affected, it wouldn’t have been good. It would have held up the entire production team.
“Of course, I’m sure that Senior Shen and Screenwriter Yuan didn’t do this on purpose. You guys wouldn’t have delayed the progress of the entire team for selfish reasons.” Everyone who was listening to Tan Mo’s words could tell that she was being sarcastic.
She was implying that they had done this intentionally.
Director Liu’s face darkened.
Professor Zhao remained expressionless.
Yuan Qishan hurriedly explained, “Of course we didn’t do this purposely. We would never do anything to hold up the entire production team.”
Shen Jingyi wanted to shut Yuan Qishan up. “Tan Mo, you should go and check on your tablet. It has been steeped in water for such a long time. If you had dried it out earlier, it might have been okay. But now…”
“No worries, isn’t it just a tablet? It’s fine.” Tan Mo was wealthy enough. She didn’t care at all.
Shen Jingyi: “…”
Yuan Qishan: “…”
They were salaried workers who worked hard for their money, and this made them even more envious.
Tan Mo finally wiped off the tablet.
She turned on the device. “It’s fine. It’s not ruined.”
“Director Liu, Professor Zhao, please do have a look at the script. If there are any issues with it, I can correct them today.”
“Don’t you need to visit the infirmary?” Director Liu asked.
“That’s right!” Yuan Qishan snapped out of her stupor. She said, “You burned your hand. You should go and get it checked soon. We all know that burns hurt quite a lot. It could affect your typing.”
If Tan Mo had burned her hand, she wouldn’t be able to work too fast. Wouldn’t that mean Yuan Qishan’s help would still be needed?
“I just ran it under cold water. It doesn’t hurt that much anymore,” Tan Mo replied. “I don’t need to visit the infirmary, and it definitely won’t affect my typing.”
What’s more, she could heal it herself.
When she’d visited the toilet a while back, she had simply washed off the coffee.
She had already healed the burn a long time ago.
“Are you sure?” Professor Zhao asked with concern. “Although the script is important, your health still comes first.”
If Tan Mo hurt her hand, Professor Guo might get upset at him.
“It’s fine.” Tan Mo showed everyone her burned hand. Her fingers appeared to move extremely nimbly.
She used her left hand to press on the burned area. Without blinking, she said expressionlessly, “Take a look for yourself. I’m fine.”
Director Liu heaved a sigh of relief.
“Have you eaten breakfast?” Director Liu asked Tan Mo.
“I haven’t. I had just taken my seat. Before I could even start eating, my tablet got drenched.” Tan Mo explained helplessly.
“Why don’t you sit with me and Professor Zhao. We can talk and eat at the same time.” Director Liu excluded Yuan Qishan and Shen Jingyi completely from the conversation and the invitation.
Both the Professor and the Director could read the situation well. Even if Tan Mo hadn’t said what she had said, they would have been able to see through the schemes of these two women.
Would Director Liu believe that Shen Jingyi and Yuan Qishan weren’t involved based on a few words from the server?
Their little schemes seemed like merely petty tricks to Director Liu.
He was constantly being exposed to the overt schemes of both the male and female celebrities.
Regardless of the context, there would always be a reason to scheme.
For the sake of endorsements, positions, roles, resources, and screen time.
He had seen many instances of this in the movies he had directed, be it secretly adding screen time or making a scene during the filming.
Shen Jingyi and Yuan Qishan’s methods were amateur in comparison.
Even though they were inclined to think that they had done a good and flawless job at their scheming..
Even if they were suspects, it would be useless to try to prove anything as there was no evidence.
