Chapter 635: Chapter 635: Using Your Information to Apply for Online Loans

"Tina, could you provide us with your boyfriend’s personal information?" Renee Jennings asked.

"Of course," Tina said. "His name is Tiberius Lee. He’s a shareholder in a foreign trade company..."

Sawyer, taking notes beside them, also asked, "Do you know his national ID number?"

"Let me look. He sent it to me before." Tina found a photo of an ID card in her chat history. "This is his ID."

Sawyer took a picture of the photo and sent it to Levi Hollis, who was still working late at the precinct, asking him to pull up the man’s records.

Levi Hollis called back a moment later.

Sawyer answered the call. After listening for a moment, he frowned, then lowered his phone. "Tiberius Lee’s ID is a fake," he said. "Levi said they can only try to find a match using facial recognition."

The color drained from Tina’s face, her expression one of utter disbelief. "His ID is fake? Then... what’s real?"

Renee Jennings looked at her, patting her shoulder comfortingly. "Honestly, I don’t think you should be sad," she said softly. "You should be relieved."

"I agree," Sawyer said with a nod. "You found out the truth before disaster struck."

"That’s right." Spicy squeezed her hand. "Don’t be sad, Tina. You still have me!"

A gentle smile touched Renee Jennings’s lips, her eyes warm. "She’s right. You’re very lucky. Your best friend saved you. You should be happy about that."

"You’re right!" Tina turned to look at Spicy, tears of gratitude streaming down her cheeks. "I’m not sad. I’m happy!"

"That’s good," Spicy said, breathing a sigh of relief.

A minute later, Sawyer received the file from Levi Hollis.

"Tina’s boyfriend is Preston Hollis, thirty-two years old. He was imprisoned for robbery..."

As Tina listened, her palms grew clammy with cold sweat and her scalp tingled.

She had been dating a robber, even living with him!

Tina’s voice broke. "I’m too scared to go home tonight."

Spicy immediately said, "You can stay at my place."

Hearing this, Renee Jennings frowned. "Does Preston Hollis know Leila’s address?"

"He does." The more Tina thought about it, the more upset she became. "He’s picked me up from Leila’s place before. Am I going to get her into trouble?"

"Don’t panic," Henry Stark said calmly. "The two of you should stay at a hotel for the next couple of days."

"Okay." Tina nodded emphatically and said to Spicy, "I’ll pay for the hotel."

Spicy retorted, "The money isn’t the point. Your safety is."

The words had barely left her mouth when Tina’s phone rang. The name "Tiberius" lit up the screen.

"He’s calling me. What do I do?" she asked, panicking.

Answering the phone in her current state would be a dead giveaway. "Don’t answer," Henry Stark said coolly. "Text him an explanation later."

"Okay." Tina relaxed slightly.

"Tina, tell us more about Preston Hollis," Sawyer said gently. "Does he have any close friends?"

Tina thought for a moment, then shook her head, looking lost. "I’ve never met any of his friends. He said the people at his company are just business partners and that he’s not close with them. He told me his childhood friends are all abroad and that he grew up overseas."

Hearing this, Renee Jennings couldn’t help but ask, "Tina, how did you two meet?"

"We..." Tina bit her lip, her fingers curling as she hung her head in embarrassment. "We met online. But we weren’t in an online relationship or anything. We met in person later and slowly started to like each other."

Henry Stark analyzed the situation with a calm gaze. "He probably uses the internet to specifically target his prey."

Renee Jennings nodded. "Yes, he specifically targets young, attractive women."

Tina sniffled, her tone resolute. "I’m never posting photos or replying to DMs online again. This is terrifying."

A moment later, her phone rang again. It was Preston Hollis.

Tina’s face filled with anxiety. "He’s calling again."

Renee Jennings suggested, "Why don’t we have Leila answer? She can say you’re trying on clothes."

"Good idea," Henry Stark said. He was also worried that not answering would make him suspicious.

Spicy quickly waved her hands. "I can’t do it. I just had a fight with him last night. If he finds out Tina’s with me, he’ll definitely be upset."

Tina chimed in, "Yeah, he’s told me to spend less time with Leila."

In her head, Spicy immediately cursed Preston Hollis and his entire family tree.

"Then if he calls again, I’ll answer it," Renee Jennings said thoughtfully. "I’ll say I’m one of Tina’s high school friends."

A few minutes later, sure enough, Preston Hollis called again.

Renee Jennings answered, and a man’s slightly annoyed voice immediately came through the earpiece.

"Tina, where have you been? Why are you just now answering my call?"

Renee Jennings said coolly, "You must be Tina’s boyfriend. She’s trying on clothes, so she asked me to hold her phone."

The other end of the line went silent for a few seconds before the voice spoke again. "You sound unfamiliar. Which of Tina’s friends are you?"

Renee Jennings said, "A friend from high school. My last name is Winter. Hasn’t Tina ever mentioned me?"

"No."

"Well, we should have Tina set something up so we can all get to know each other."

"Sure."

"Great. I’ll have Tina call you back in a bit. Bye for now."

Renee Jennings handed the phone back to Tina. "In a few minutes, you can message him and say you’re not coming home tonight."

Spicy pouted. "He keeps you on a really tight leash."

Renee Jennings explained, "He’s invested more than half a year in Tina. He’s about to get his payoff, so he’s worried about any unexpected changes."

Sawyer held out his hand. "Tina, let me see your phone. I need to get his number."

"Okay." Tina quickly unlocked her phone and pulled up his contact information.

Sawyer sent the phone number to Levi Hollis, asking him to set up a wiretap and track its location.

"The number isn’t registered to him." Sawyer frowned as he read the message from Levi. "Tina, why is this number registered under your name?"

Tina suddenly remembered something. "He told me he’d lost his phone and ID, but was in a rush to get a new SIM card... He seemed really desperate at the time, so I helped him get one."

"So that’s what happened." A cold laugh escaped Henry Stark’s lips, his expression grim. "Remember this: never let anyone use your personal information. You thought you were just helping him get a SIM card, but he can use that card and your information to apply for loans online."

Renee Jennings realized it too. "He wants far more than just two hundred thousand from Tina."

"That’s right." Sawyer looked at Tina sympathetically. "Once you’re in Marland and he has you trapped, he’ll use your details to take out all sorts of online loans."

Tina’s back was soaked in a cold sweat. A profound sense of helplessness washed over her.

For the first time, she truly realized just how sinister people could be.
