Renee Jennings frowned. ’This Donnie guy is so strange,’ she thought. ’He’s just a cousin, so why does he have such strong opinions about someone else’s wife?’
"KelseyLee, do you and this Donnie have some kind of history?" she asked, puzzled.
"I don’t think so." KelseyLee shook her head. "I barely ever see him. Other than when he goes back to his hometown for the holidays, we have almost no contact."
Renee Jennings: "He seems to really have it in for you. Is it because you didn’t agree to let him live in your house?"
"What does he have against me?" KelseyLee asked.
Renee Jennings then repeated what Rick had said.
"Is there something wrong with him?" KelseyLee was furious. "I didn’t marry into *their* family, what’s all this nonsense about being a family tragedy? And he’s cursing us to get a divorce!"
[Yeah, that cousin is nuts]
[Kinda scary, tbh]
Just as Renee Jennings was about to ask about the cousin’s relationship with her husband, Rick, who was in KelseyLee’s arms, let out a bark.
"WOOF WOOF WOOF! Donnie isn’t the one with the problem! Because Donnie and his big brother have always been family!"
’Always been family?’
Renee Jennings grew even more confused. "How could they be family? They’re supposed to be relatives."
Rick woofed, "Because Donnie and his big brother are actual brothers!"
Hearing this, a look of surprise flashed across Renee Jennings’s face. "Rick, you’re not joking with me, are you?"
"WOOF! I’m not joking!"
"Who did you hear this from?"
"WOOF! Mom and Dad said so!" Rick sounded a bit proud. "Donnie used to take care of me, so I know a lot of things. Surprising, huh!"
Renee Jennings was starting to understand. She continued, "So, are Mom and Dad very good to Donnie? Do they like him a lot?"
"WOOF~ Of course!" Rick replied. "Mom and Dad like Donnie very much!"
Renee Jennings nodded slightly, her gaze shifting up to KelseyLee’s curious face. "Kelsey, are you sure your husband is an only child?"
"Positive." KelseyLee nodded seriously.
[The host is asking this... I think I’ve already figured it out!]
[I figured it out too. The cousin KelseyLee is talking about is probably her husband’s biological brother.]
KelseyLee stared at the viewers’ comments, her brow furrowing. "How is that possible? Everyone, please don’t joke around."
"We’re not joking." Renee Jennings’s expression grew more serious. "Rick says that Donnie and your husband are family. They’re biological brothers."
"That’s impossible!" KelseyLee shook her head, her face a mask of disbelief. "He’s my husband’s cousin, his maternal uncle’s son. How could he possibly be my husband’s biological brother?"
Then, as if remembering something, she added excitedly, "I’ve seen my husband’s family household registration book! He’s definitely an only child!"
Renee Jennings spoke calmly, "Perhaps Rick can answer that question for us."
[Ms. Jennings, hurry and ask~]
[I have a feeling Kelsey’s 500,000 is gone.]
Rick nodded his little head. "WOOF~ Of course I can~"
Renee Jennings said softly, "Rick, could you please tell us why Donnie ended up being the uncle’s child?"
Rick: "WOOF WOOF WOOF! Because Uncle couldn’t have children, and Mom happened to have two, so she gave Donnie to Uncle to raise as his own."
Rick’s answer was more or less what Renee Jennings had guessed.
KelseyLee asked anxiously, "Renee, what did Rick say?"
Renee Jennings relayed Rick’s answer to her.
[Holy crap, I actually guessed right!]
[So he’s an only child on paper, but has a biological brother being raised by his uncle.]
[The house is in the in-laws’ names, so who inherits it in the future is anyone’s guess.]
The color instantly drained from KelseyLee’s face, leaving her deathly pale.
She frowned deeply, her heart churning with intense panic and unease.
’Her cousin-in-law is actually her parents-in-law’s biological son...’
KelseyLee tried to stay calm, but her voice trembled slightly as she spoke. "Then my husband... does he know about this?"
This time, before Renee Jennings could even ask, Rick answered on his own. "WOOF~ Of course he knows!"
Hearing this, Renee Jennings nodded at KelseyLee. "He knows."
KelseyLee suddenly felt her scalp tingle as a chill ran down her spine. It felt as if her entire world had been shattered. She muttered, "How could this be... He knew? But he never told me!"
[Sigh, girl, you’ve been scammed.]
[That house is definitely going to be left to the younger brother.]
[That’s 500,000! Enough for me to just chill and do nothing for several years.]
"How long have you two been married?" Renee Jennings asked softly.
KelseyLee choked up. "A little over three years. We registered our marriage before I even graduated from college."
[Damn, you were able to cough up 500,000 for a house before you even graduated?]
[This girl’s got money.]
KelseyLee sniffled and explained in a muffled voice, "I’d been saving that 500,000 for a long time. It was all my lucky money and allowance from when I was a kid."
Renee Jennings: "Besides the house in your hometown, do you have any other properties?"
KelseyLee: "The apartment we’re living in now in Lynfell was bought by my parents-in-law a while ago. They transferred the title to my husband when he came of age."
"Then you were totally scammed out of 500,000!" Michelle Fuller couldn’t help but blurt out.
KelseyLee’s eyes were red-rimmed, and her heart ached. "Yeah... I never thought it would turn out like this."
Renee Jennings sighed softly. "Was it your husband’s idea to buy the house in your parents-in-law’s names?"
KelseyLee blinked a few times, forcing back her tears, and said in a choked voice, "It wasn’t exactly his idea. On the day we were supposed to sign the contract, my husband suddenly felt sick. I took him to the hospital, so we had his parents go buy it instead."
’Suddenly feeling sick... that’s very suspicious.’
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow almost imperceptibly. "If he couldn’t be there in person, couldn’t he have authorized a proxy to sign the contract? There was no need to use your parents-in-law’s names."
"Exactly," Michelle Fuller couldn’t help but interject again. "And if he suddenly felt sick, couldn’t you have just signed the contract another day? Did it have to be that exact day?"
KelseyLee said helplessly, "I also thought about going another day, but the real estate agent said another client was very interested in the house. If we couldn’t make it, they were going to sell it to someone else. I was in such a rush, it never occurred to me that we could authorize a proxy..."
[This feels like a conspiracy.]
[It was a total setup! It’s too much of a coincidence that your husband suddenly got sick, and too much of a coincidence that another client wanted that exact house!]
Renee Jennings said slowly, "Two sons. The older one already has a house, but the younger one doesn’t. So they definitely had to find a way to buy a house for the younger son."
KelseyLee found this utterly absurd. "Then they should have bought it for him themselves! How could they use my money to buy it?"
"Indeed." Renee Jennings frowned. "The entire family is plotting against you."
[KelseyLee really got the short end of the stick. She spent 500,000, and if they get divorced, she might not even get to keep a toilet.]
[A family that schemes this much... if they divorce, she might even walk away with a pile of debt.]
