Chapter 267: This Streamer Looks a Bit Like My Sister
Chapter 267: Chapter 267: This Streamer Looks a Bit Like My Sister
Sophie watched, stunned, as her boyfriend slowly walked toward her holding a cake.
Her eyelashes fluttered, her heart pounding wildly in her chest.
"You..." Sophie gripped her phone, glancing down at the date in confusion. "It’s not your birthday, and it’s not my birthday."
Hearing her, Renee asked in a low voice, "Sophie, is that your boyfriend?"
"Yes!" Sophie quickly flipped her camera to the man now standing before her. "This is my boyfriend, Shawn."
[AAAHHH, Sophie wasn’t lying, her boyfriend is seriously handsome!]
[He’s gorgeous!]
Seeing this, Shawn smiled and asked, "Sophie, are you on a video call?"
"I’m in a livestream with two hundred thousand viewers. It’s the one I always watch," Sophie explained softly. "Everyone is saying you’re handsome."
Shawn smiled shyly. "Thank you."
[Wait, what’s written on the cake?]
[OMG! Is her boyfriend proposing?]
Seeing the live comments, Sophie finally looked at the cake in her boyfriend’s hands.
A few words were written on the heart-shaped cake: Dearest Sophie, will you marry me?
Sophie covered her mouth in surprise, a misty haze welling up in her eyes. In the candlelight, they shimmered as if filled with tiny stars.
"Are you proposing?" she asked, both shocked and delighted.
"Yes." Shawn placed the cake on the coffee table as a friend handed him a princess tiara adorned with a white veil. "Sophie, I want to build a home with you. Will you marry me?"
Seeing the tiara, Goldie meowed in satisfaction. ’Hehe, Dad has been hiding in the study these past few days making this tiara for Mom. He said Mom would definitely love it and that she can wear it at their wedding.’
Renee raised an eyebrow and relayed what the cat had said.
[No wonder Goldie said it wasn’t anything bad. It’s a happy occasion!!!]
[He’s such a thoughtful boyfriend. Mine just knows how to take a shit.]
Sophie burst into tears, choking out, "You idiot! I thought something bad had happened and you were hiding in the study every day trying to deal with it alone. You had me so worried!"
"I’m sorry." Shawn’s eyes were full of remorse. "I wanted to surprise you, but I ended up ignoring your feelings. I’ll be more considerate in the future."
"Hmph!" Sophie sniffled. "Hurry up and put it on me!"
"Okay!" The corners of Shawn’s mouth lifted into a smile. He took off her bunny-ear headband, tidied her hair, and carefully placed the tiara on her head. "My Sophie is so beautiful," he said gently.
[So sweet! My faith in love is restored~~~]
[This is so wholesome my corpse spots are fading.]
"This is an unexpected piece of luck today." Shawn took her hand, his voice laced with amusement. "To have more than two hundred thousand people witness this happy moment between me and Sophie."
"I don’t even know if people want to watch this..." Sophie said, flustered. "If you don’t, I can just log off."
[Don’t log off, this is such positive vibes!]
[I’m honored to be an official witness to your happiness today. We love to see it, don’t go!]
[I’m sending you a blessing I’ve treasured for twenty years: May you grow old together and have beautiful children soon!]
[Congratulations! You have to be happy!]
Renee also spoke up slowly. "Sophie, I wish for you and Shawn to brave the storms of life together, to share every passing year, to hold each other always in your thoughts, and to stay by each other’s side until you are old and gray."
With tears shimmering in her eyes, Sophie nodded vigorously. Her voice was thick and nasal as she said, deeply moved, "Thank you, Renee. Thank you to all the sisters in the stream. I hope you all find your own happiness too..."
As soon as she finished speaking, brilliant fireworks exploded across the screen.
The user "Summer_Reads" sent several "Romantic Fireworks" in a row and posted a comment: [May you have a long and happy marriage.]
"Summer, what are you watching?" Vincent Morgan asked casually, glancing over and seeing Sylvia Brooks sending what looked like virtual gifts.
Sylvia Brooks smiled. "My friend’s livestream. Someone’s proposing."
’After seeing so many couples betray each other, it was hard not to feel happy for such a wholesome pair.’
"You have a friend who’s a streamer?" Vincent Morgan was a little surprised.
Sylvia Brooks said, "She’s not just my friend. She’s the one who saved my life."
"Saved your life?" Vincent Morgan paused, his head tilted back to take a drink. He looked at her, puzzled. "What happened?"
"It’s a long story." Sylvia Brooks smiled, her lips pressed together, and raised her glass to clink it against his.
Vincent Morgan furrowed his brow slightly, a look of concern in his eyes. "Summer, are we still friends?"
"Vincent," Sylvia Brooks found his question amusing. "If I didn’t consider you a friend, I wouldn’t be sitting here right now."
"Thank you." Vincent Morgan downed his drink in one go.
Sylvia Brooks raised an eyebrow. "And you? Aren’t you going to tell me why you’re drinking your sorrows away?"
"I..." The matter weighed so heavily on Vincent Morgan’s heart that he felt he could hardly breathe. "The truth is, I have a long-lost sister."
Sylvia Brooks blinked, a flash of surprise crossing her delicate face. "You have two sisters?"
"Yes." Vincent Morgan nodded, catching a glimpse of the girl on her phone screen. "Your friend, the streamer... she looks a little like my sister."
"What a coincidence." Sylvia Brooks glanced at Renee’s face on the screen.
Vincent Morgan poured himself another drink and said with a bitter smile, "But she probably doesn’t even know I’m her brother."
"You haven’t acknowledged each other?" Sylvia Brooks turned off her phone to give him her full attention.
"No." Vincent Morgan closed his eyes, feeling a sharp pang in his chest.
Sylvia Brooks asked curiously, "So when do you plan to reunite with her?"
"Reunite..." Vincent Morgan’s fists clenched, his tone heavy. "We hesitated for a long time. In the end, we decided to tell her adoptive parents and give them a sum of money to improve their financial situation."
"So you don’t plan on actually meeting her?" Sylvia Brooks frowned.
"Correct." Vincent Morgan lowered his gaze. "We looked into her life and decided she wouldn’t be a good fit for the Morgan Family."
Sylvia Brooks: "..."
’She got it now. The Morgan Family looked down on their long-lost daughter.’
Sylvia Brooks said coolly, "Have you ever considered that maybe she has no interest in returning to the Morgan Family?"
Vincent Morgan opened his mouth, but couldn’t find a rebuttal.
Sylvia Brooks took a sip of her drink and said nonchalantly, "Sometimes you can’t put too much faith in one-sided information. You can only know a person’s true character after you’ve actually met them. Personally, I think you made the wrong choice."
"I’ve realized that, too," Vincent Morgan’s voice became dejected.
Sylvia Brooks said, "Then it’s not too late to do something about it."
"It’s too late." Vincent Morgan downed another glass, a tear welling in the corner of his eye. "She’s not in this world anymore."
