"Mom, what is it?" she asked.
Her mother-in-law looked embarrassed. She glanced at her, then lowered her head. "Yuki, Ian just had a talk with me. I’ve been reflecting, and I realize I was in the wrong about this."
Lucas raised her eyebrow almost imperceptibly.
Her mother-in-law looked up at her, her tone apologetic. "Yuki, I’m truly sorry. I won’t interfere with you raising your dog anymore. I hope you can forgive me."
"Mom." Lucas knew that for her mother-in-law to apologize, her husband must have given her a talking-to.
She didn’t want to put her husband in a difficult position between them, so she said softly, "I’m glad you’ve come to understand. We’re family. We can always talk things out and discuss them. Besides, Maya is really important to me. When she suddenly disappeared, I was so worried."
The mother-in-law sighed. "I’m sorry. I’ll go get Maya and bring her back tomorrow."
Lucas nodded. "Thank you, Mom."
"Well, I won’t disturb your rest then."

Lucas closed the door and picked up her phone to find the chat exploding.

Little Red’s eyes grew hot. "I just... thank you."
After saying that, she suddenly remembered something. "Oh, right! There’s a convenience store downstairs from my apartment that has a dog. For the past few nights, whenever I walk by, the dog always snatches my bag and runs ahead, waiting for me to chase it."
