Chapter 166: Sounds a Bit Perverted
Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Sounds a Bit Perverted
"That’s right." Cole’s mother lifted her chin proudly. "Shirley’s parents said they’re going to buy a large luxury apartment in Zenvia for Cole, paid in full."
Mr. and Mrs. Griffin said nothing.
They had indeed said they would buy a large luxury apartment, but for their daughter, not for Cole.
To be honest, if Shirley wasn’t pregnant, they wouldn’t have been willing to let their daughter marry Cole in the first place.
Not only was he average-looking, but his parents also didn’t seem easy to get along with.
Mr. and Mrs. Griffin were already starting to worry their daughter would suffer after the marriage.
"Congratulations," Renee Jennings smiled, then asked, "What about a car? What price range are you thinking of?"
Cole’s mother looked toward Mr. and Mrs. Griffin. "I don’t believe you mentioned how much you plan to spend on the car?"
Mr. Griffin said gravely, "Around a million. A car for getting around doesn’t need to be too expensive. Besides, Shirley is a teacher; she can’t be too flashy."
For Cole’s family, a million was a huge sum.
Cole’s mother beamed. "Perfect, perfect. A million-dollar car for getting around is just right."
Cole was ecstatic.
’I’ll have a million-dollar luxury car soon!’
The car he currently drove was bought seven years ago for 150,000. His friends who had bought cars around the same time had long since gotten new ones; only he was still driving a piece of junk.
This was great. His million-dollar luxury car would put them all to shame.
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow slightly, a grin playing on her lips. "By the way, Cole, why don’t you tell us the love story between you and your fiancée?"
Cole was a little surprised. He hadn’t heard Renee Jennings call him "cousin" in a long, long time. What a rare occasion.
’Could this damn girl be trying to suck up to me now that she sees I’m marrying a rich heiress?’
Cole snorted inwardly. ’It won’t be that easy.’
"Cole, why aren’t you talking?" Renee Jennings asked, her bright eyes wide as she looked at him with curiosity.
"Talk about what?" Cole had been lost in thought and hadn’t heard what she said.
Renee Jennings said, "Just tell us how you and Cherie started dating. Who pursued whom?"
The other relatives also looked on curiously. After all, it’s human nature to love gossip.
Mr. and Mrs. Griffin, especially, were staring at him intently.
They wanted to know, too.
Previously, when their daughter had suddenly announced she had a boyfriend and wanted to marry him, they had asked this very question, but she had been unwilling to answer.
Cole frowned imperceptibly.
’This question is a bit difficult to answer.’
"Is it that hard to talk about?" Renee Jennings watched him with a smirk. "Surely there isn’t something you’re afraid of people finding out?"
Cole’s expression faltered, and he immediately retorted, "What nonsense are you talking about? What is there to hide? We got together because we liked each other."
"Oh~" Renee Jennings nodded meaningfully. "So, you’re saying you and Cherie had mutual feelings, and you both just decided to get together at the same time?"
"Ye-yes, that’s right." Cole’s eyes darted up and to the right as he stammered, "It’s just that simple. What else would it be? How complicated could it possibly be?"
In her room, Shirley Griffin clutched her phone, her mood growing more agitated and anxious as she frowned at the scene outside the window.
She didn’t know if what she was doing was right or wrong.
Suddenly, her phone vibrated twice.
Shirley Griffin quickly looked down and unlocked the screen.
After seeing the message, her brow furrowed even deeper, and her expression grew uglier.
[Sis, please don’t be like this, okay?]
[Sis, don’t do something that makes you suffer!]
[Sis, I’m begging you...]
Shirley Griffin pressed the phone to her chest as tears instantly streamed from her eyes.
Seeing that her son was reluctant to answer, Cole’s mother turned and glared at Renee Jennings. "Go on, now. This is the young couple’s private business. Why is a girl like you prying so much?"
"There are many kinds of secrets." Renee Jennings looked at Cole, a faint smirk on her lips, and said suggestively, "And it seems your secret, cousin, is the unspeakable kind."
"Nonsense!" Cole snapped his head up to glare at Renee Jennings, nervously pressing his lips together. "What kind of unspeakable secret could I possibly have? I’m just protecting Cherie’s and my privacy."
Renee Jennings nodded. "I understand. I have no interest in your privacy."
Hearing her say that, Cole immediately breathed a sigh of relief. "Then stop asking so many questions."
Renee Jennings watched him with a grin. "I heard some gossip about a teacher at your school. Not sure if it’s true."
Cole’s brow, which had just relaxed, knitted together again as a sudden, ominous feeling washed over him.
He took a deep breath and forced a smile. "I’m not interested in gossip, so let’s not talk about it."
"What gossip?" Cole’s mother, however, looked excited.
"Don’t ask," Cole tried to stop her.
Cole’s mother shot him a disapproving glance. "If you don’t want to hear gossip, go inside and find your wife. We want to listen!"
The other relatives looked equally curious.
Renee Jennings met the crowd’s gaze and raised an eyebrow. "Want to hear it?"
"Yes!"
"Which teacher is the gossip about?"
"Hurry up and tell us!"
Cole’s body went rigid. He raised a hand to wipe the beads of sweat from his forehead, his heart pounding violently with nerves and anxiety.
He stared at Renee Jennings, his scalp prickling with tension.
Renee Jennings’s eyes twinkled as she met his gaze calmly. "I heard that at your school, a male teacher had a crush on a new female teacher."
"Which male teacher? Which female teacher?" Cole’s mother pressed.
"Don’t be so eager, let me finish," Renee Jennings said nonchalantly. "The female teacher comes from an excellent family and is very beautiful, but she’s also quite timid."
Mr. and Mrs. Griffin clenched their fists, their expressions grim.
Renee Jennings continued, "Not long after the new teacher started at the school, the male teacher confessed his feelings to her."
Cole’s pupils shrank. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he let out a low growl, "Stop talking."
"Hush now," Cole’s mother shot him a displeased look. "Let us hear the rest of the story first."
Renee Jennings smiled at her. "Auntie, take a guess. Did the female teacher say yes?"
Cole’s mother frowned, thinking. "She said yes?"
"So smart, yet so wrong," Renee Jennings said. "The female teacher looked down on him and rejected him outright."
Cole clenched his fists, grinding his teeth. "I told you to stop talking!"
"Cole, why are you so agitated?" Renee Jennings blinked innocently. "It’s not like I’m talking about you. Weren’t your and your fiancée’s feelings mutual?"
"You..." Cole gasped, breathing heavily.
Renee Jennings went on, "But the male teacher didn’t give up just because she rejected him. Instead, he started stalking her in secret."
Rhea Dempsey said in surprise, "This teacher sounds kind of like a pervert, doesn’t he?"
Renee Jennings met her gaze and nodded in agreement. "He is. But the most perverted part is yet to come."
Everyone was on the edge of their seats.
"What happened next? What happened?"
"What despicable thing did he do?"
"Keep talking."
