Chapter 150: Is It Too Early to Meet the Parents Now?
Chapter 150: Chapter 150: Is It Too Early to Meet the Parents Now?
At four in the afternoon, Renee Jennings received a call from Henry Stark.
"Herbert Lee is taking his girlfriend out to dinner. Get ready. Sawyer is on her way to pick you up now."
Renee’s gaze sharpened, and she replied in a serious tone, "Understood."
After hanging up, she looked at Blueberry.
The little guy looked up at her, its round, glistening cat eyes sparkling. "Renee, does this mean we get to go out?"
"Yes." Renee couldn’t help but remind it, "When you’re on duty later, you have to listen carefully to their conversation, understand?"
Blueberry nodded so fast its head was a blur and meowed, "Don’t worry, Renee. I’m very reliable."
Ten minutes later, Sawyer called.
She had already arrived at the entrance to the residential complex.
"I’ll be right there." Renee hurried downstairs, carrying Blueberry.
After getting in the car, Sawyer raised a hand to greet Blueberry. "Hey, Blueberry, I’m Sawyer."
Sitting on Renee’s lap, Blueberry also raised a fluffy little paw and meowed in a cutesy, high-pitched voice, "Hey, Sawyer, I’m Blueberry."
It wasn’t peak traffic hour just after four, so the car drove unimpeded all the way to the mall’s underground parking garage.
As Sawyer parked the car, she said, "Herbert Lee is taking his girlfriend to a Western restaurant. The boss wants us to get there first and lie in wait."
At this time of day, the Western restaurant was nearly empty, with only a few tables of guests.
After discussing it, Renee and Sawyer decided to take a two-person booth along the wall.
They chose a spot in the middle, ordered their food, and ate while they waited.
Blueberry grew bored with waiting and simply plopped down next to Renee to sleep soundly, conserving its energy.
Around six in the evening, Herbert Lee appeared.
Dressed in a sharp suit and holding a bouquet of fresh flowers, he drew a lot of attention as he walked in.
Herbert Lee had reserved a table in advance—the heart-shaped booth in the center of the restaurant.
Seeing this, Sawyer couldn’t help but murmur with a sigh, "He really knows how to win a girl over. First flowers, and now a heart-shaped booth."
"I wonder how many girls he’s deceived." Renee eyed his handsome-enough face, her gaze filled with coldness and disgust.
"Yeah," Sawyer sighed softly. "Hell is empty, and all the devils are here."
A little over ten minutes later, a woman in a pink skirt suit, meticulously made up, arrived for the date with a sweet smile on her face.
When Renee got a clear look at the woman’s face, a flicker of astonishment crossed her eyes.
Noticing her reaction, Sawyer asked in confusion, "Renee, what’s wrong?"
Renee’s brows furrowed slightly. ’Should I call this a coincidence, or does Evelyn Hollis just have terrible luck?’
Last time, she had stopped Evelyn Hollis from getting involved with a diseased scumbag, and now, unexpectedly, she was Herbert Lee’s girlfriend...
Renee quickly explained Evelyn Hollis’s situation to Sawyer.
Sawyer’s eyes went wide. She snuck a glance at Evelyn Hollis. "Actually, I don’t think she has terrible luck. I think her luck is too good!"
Would someone with terrible luck be saved by Renee twice?
Before Evelyn Hollis could even sit down, Herbert Lee stood up with the roses. The eyes behind his glasses, full of scheming, were now gazing at her tenderly. "Erin, you look so beautiful tonight."
"Thank you." Evelyn Hollis smiled shyly, her gaze falling on the red roses in his hands. "Are these... for me?"
"Of course." Herbert Lee handed her the roses. "Beautiful flowers for a beautiful woman."
"Thank you." Evelyn Hollis held the flowers and lowered her head to smell them. "I love them."
Before, she had resented Renee Jennings and Michelle Fuller for ruining her blind date, but now, she was actually grateful.
If they hadn’t caused such a scene, she never would have had the chance to meet such an outstanding and wealthy man like Herbert Lee.
Herbert Lee pulled out her chair for her, waiting with suave gentlemanliness for her to be seated.
Evelyn Hollis sat down, still holding the flowers, and asked in a soft voice, "Why the sudden flowers?"
Herbert Lee sat down across from her and chuckled. "Does a man need a reason to give flowers to the woman he loves? I give them because I want to."
Renee and Sawyer couldn’t hear their conversation, but they could see Evelyn Hollis beaming with an exceptionally brilliant smile.
"What kind of crap did that bastard just say to make her so happy?" Sawyer seethed, grinding her teeth.
"Blueberry," Renee called out softly.
Blueberry responded instantly. "Here!"
Renee turned to look and saw the British Shorthair sitting up, its round cat eyes filled with alertness.
"When did you wake up?" she asked.
Blueberry: "When you were cursing the devil."
Renee raised an eyebrow slightly. "It’s your turn to move out."
"Roger that!" Blueberry all but saluted with its little paw. "Mission will be accomplished, guaranteed."
"Go, Blueberry, go!" Sawyer made a cheering gesture.
Blueberry switched back to its cutesy, high-pitched voice to reply, "Okay-dokey!"
"Do you know who your target is?" Renee asked in a low voice.
Blueberry glanced in Herbert Lee’s direction and meowed, "It’s the male with the greasy hair."
Greasy hair.
Renee glanced over. "That’s a spot-on description."
She gently patted Blueberry’s head. "Go on."
Like an agile cheetah, Blueberry swiftly leaped over Renee and bounded away.
Its four fluffy paws landed steadily on the floor.
Blueberry strolled languidly toward the heart-shaped booth, stopped beside Evelyn Hollis’s chair, and plopped down on the spot.
Evelyn Hollis looked down in surprise. "There’s a cat."
"A cat?" Herbert Lee disliked cats and frowned instinctively. "Do you want me to shoo it away?"
"It’s fine." Evelyn Hollis shook her head. "It’s just lying there. It’s not bothering me."
"Good." Herbert Lee nodded and passed her the menu. "See what you’d like to eat."
After they ordered, Herbert Lee stared at Evelyn Hollis with a look so "affectionate" it was greasy, praising her as if she were a peerless beauty.
Evelyn Hollis giggled until she was shaking. "Chuck, you’re exaggerating!"
Listening to their conversation, Blueberry was bored to death and started yawning again.
Renee caught sight of it yawning widely, and her slender brows furrowed with a hint of worry.
’Is this little guy about to fall asleep on the job?’
Blueberry shook its head, struggling to stay awake.
Herbert Lee reached out and took Evelyn Hollis’s hand. "Erin, my family heard I have such an amazing girlfriend, and they’re all eager to meet you."
"Huh?" Evelyn Hollis’s eyelashes fluttered as she asked in astonishment, "You’ve already told your family about us?"
"Yes." Herbert Lee’s expression was incredibly serious. "I’m dating you with marriage in mind. The moment we made things official, I told my family."
Hearing these words, Evelyn Hollis felt her heart skip a beat.
She felt a little shy, unsure how to respond.
After a moment, she tucked her hair behind her ear and said softly, "I’m serious, too."
"Then are you ready to meet my family?" Herbert Lee asked, looking at her expectantly.
Evelyn Hollis looked hesitant. "I feel like... isn’t it a bit too soon to meet the parents?"
"On the contrary, I think now is the perfect time," Herbert Lee said slowly. "We’re both in this for marriage. You’re the woman, so you should understand my family situation first. If you’re not satisfied, you can still cut your losses in time."
