Chapter 1044: Fighting The Music Notes

Chapter 1044: Chapter 1044: Fighting The Music Notes

Ji Yuan’s long, slender fingers lightly touched the Chuntian’s strings.

Ding.

A single, crisp note echoed through the vast training ground.

The very next instant, a sharp, searing pain exploded across Bai Xifeng’s shoulder.

Rip!

A bloody, clean cut appeared out of absolutely nowhere through her fabric. Bai Xifeng yelped and instinctively jumped backwards.

"Oh, shit! The exact same thing happened again!" Bai Xifeng exclaimed, her jaw dropping.

Her eyes widened in realisation. The situation was almost entirely identical to what she had faced inside the Cultivation Pagoda, a completely invisible, untraceable attack. Before her brain could process it further, Ji Yuan’s fingers moved across the guqin again.

Ding!

Ding!

Ding!

Several sharp notes rang out in rapid succession.

Bai Xifeng immediately abandoned her original position, launching herself to the side. Three invisible sound blades tore violently through the air, completely bypassing the atmosphere, and slammed into the ground where she had been standing only moments ago.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

Several deep, jagged trenches appeared instantly in the solid rock. Seeing that destructive power, Bai Xifeng nearly cried tears of frustration. She suddenly realised she had forgotten to clarify the rules. While she was actively dodging and moving around the perimeter, she shouted at the top of her lungs to the seated man.

"Teacher Ji! Do I only get to use runes in this fight?!" Bai Xifeng shouted desperately.

"Yeah." Ji Yuan’s answer was simple, flat, and entirely merciless.

Her teacher really knew how to make things as humanly difficult as possible for her. She was definitely going to have a hard time avoiding a massive beating today. She really, really wanted to cry.

Bai Xifeng wanted nothing more than to just lie down on the floor and surrender immediately. Unfortunately, another musical note sounded in the air. She scrambled, hurriedly rolling across the dirt as a crescent-shaped wave of concentrated spiritual energy sliced through the air and neatly cut a nearby steel training dummy completely in half.

Bai Xifeng swallowed hard, her throat dry. That attack could have easily split her body into two neat pieces.

"Teacher Ji! Are you trying to teach me or are you actually trying to murder me?!" Bai Xifeng cried out loud.

Ji Yuan ignored her dramatic complaint completely. Instead, both of his hands began moving seamlessly across the strings of Chuntian. The melody shifted, accelerating into a steady rhythm. The very atmosphere of the training ground changed along with it.

Suddenly, Bai Xifeng felt an overwhelming, crushing pressure descend upon her shoulders. The air itself seemed to turn into liquid lead, becoming incredibly heavy. Every single note vibrating from the instrument carried a physical, invisible force. Her movements slowed down significantly, and even breathing became a chore.

"A domain?" Bai Xifeng muttered under her breath, grinding her teeth.

No, it was not exactly a domain. But it was definitely a high-level battlefield suppression technique executed through sound waves.

Ji Yuan calmly continued playing, his posture perfect. The melody flowed gracefully like a peaceful river, yet every single note carried a hidden, lethal killing intent aimed directly at her.

Bai Xifeng knew she could not keep defending forever. She immediately slapped several high-grade runes onto the ground beneath her.

FLASH!

A wind rune activated instantly. Strong, explosive currents erupted beneath the soles of her boots, launching her backwards through the crushing pressure. The exact millisecond she moved, several invisible sound blades crashed violently into her previous position.

Boom!

Dust and debris exploded everywhere into the sky.

"Close!" Bai Xifeng wiped away a bead of cold sweat from her forehead.

Then, she began her counterattack. With a flick of her wrists, dozens upon dozens of glowing runes shot into the air, hovering around her like a halo.

Fire runes.

Water runes.

Earth runes.

Wind runes.

The training ground instantly transformed into a chaotic warzone. Flames surged upward into roaring pillars. Water spiralled violently through the air. Jagged stone walls emerged from the earth to disrupt the sound waves, and powerful gusts of wind howled across the training ground. For a brief, shining moment, the entire area resembled a catastrophic natural disaster.

Ji Yuan remained seated calmly amidst the brewing storm, his icy expression never changing for a second.

Ding.

A single note sounded. The incoming firestorm suddenly split cleanly apart down the middle, dissolving into nothingness.

Ding.

Another note followed immediately. The approaching stone walls instantly shattered into harmless rubble and dust.

Ding.

The massive water dragons Bai Xifeng had meticulously created exploded into a harmless, misty rain.

Bai Xifeng stared at the total negation in absolute shock.

"Shit, what the fuck!?" Bai Xifeng cursed out loud, stamping her foot.

Ji Yuan ignored her swearing entirely. The melody of the guqin accelerated, and the tempo of the invisible attacks accelerated right along with it. Hundreds of invisible sound blades began flying across the battlefield, cutting the wind to shreds.

Bai Xifeng immediately activated her specialised defensive runes, throwing her arms out. Golden, hexagonal barriers appeared in a protective sphere around her body.

Crack!

Crack!

Crack!

The sturdy barriers shattered one after another under the relentless sonic barrage. Her expression changed, hardening into sharp focus. She realised direct attacks were entirely useless against him right now. Then, she suddenly stopped focusing on attacking Ji Yuan directly altogether.

Instead, dozens upon dozens of raw runes began appearing silently throughout the perimeter of the battlefield. One after another, she tossed them out with calculated precision. Hidden beneath loose rocks. Buried deep beneath the dirt. Attached to the surrounding trees. Concealed inside the moving shadows.

Ji Yuan continued playing his song. However, his sharp eyes briefly flickered with a hint of curiosity. He noticed the shift. Bai Xifeng was no longer fighting him directly. She was systematically altering the battlefield itself.
