Chapter 237 - 237 Self-Blame
237 Self-Blame
He Miao’s injuries were quite serious. The doctor said that the scissors would have severed her bones if they had moved one millimeter forward. Her right arm had a serious fracture and she had to be hospitalized for observation for a while.
The anesthesia wore off, and the pain in her arms and shoulders returned. He Miao groaned, and her already pale face turned even paler. “You, are you hurt?”
Jing Yan did not expect her to worry about him first at this time. He lowered his head deeply because of his overwhelming self-blame, not even daring to look into her clear eyes.
“Jing Yan.” He Miao called out to him weakly. She could not help but use her other intact arm to slowly hold his hand and said,””You don’t have to feel guilty. I can’t blame you for what happened. Fortunately, you came in time to save me. Otherwise, I’m afraid my hand would really be crippled.”
“Don’t say anymore.” Jing Yan shook his head and closed his eyes in pain. He leaned over her, carefully avoiding her wounds, and slowly pulled her into his arms. “It’s good that you’re fine. I can’t imagine what would happen if something really happened to you today. I’m afraid I’d go crazy.”
“It’s all in the past.” He Miao patted his back slowly and asked in a low voice, “How’s Onion?”
“I asked Chen Zhao to send Onion to the vet for treatment. If anything happens, he’ll let me know.” Jing Yan quietly wiped his tears with his sleeve and turned on the light in the ward. He asked with concern, “Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something first?”
They had originally wanted to go home for dinner after they were done playing, but they did not expect that something like this would happen midway, causing them to not have a single drop of water until now.
He Miao really did feel a little hungry, but the wounds on her body were too painful, so she had no appetite to eat. She said with a dazed expression, “It’s too late. Let’s eat tomorrow.”
“That won’t do!” Jing Yan immediately called his house and asked them to prepare some light and sweet porridge and a few side dishes to send to the hospital. He also specifically told them not to let Old Master Jing know.
Fortunately, Old Master Jing was already asleep at this time, so he probably would not notice anything unusual.
He Miao knew that she needed to eat something to replenish his energy, so she did not refuse. However, she still could not help but worriedly urge Jing Yan to call Chen Zhao. “I want to see Onion. Can I ask him to record a video and send it to me?”
“Alright,” he said. Jing Yan would naturally grant He Miao’s every request.
Chen Zhao was buying something for his boss outside. When he received the call, he immediately contacted the people he arranged to stay at the vet’s and asked them to record a few videos to send to Jing Yan.
In the camera, the puppy had just finished surgery and was out of danger. It was covered in bandages and its eyes were closed weakly. However, once it heard a sound around it, it would instantly wake up from its sleep and stare at the person who made the sound with fear. It was so alert that it made people’s hearts ache.
He Miao’s heart was about to break at the sight, and a few drops of tears formed in her eyes, which were promptly wiped away by Jing Yan with a tissue.
“Onion will be fine. Don’t worry, I’ve already avenged you.” Jing Yan followed her instructions and helped her sit up slowly. He fed her some water, then held her waist and pulled her into his arms.
“Avenge?” He Miao remembered what had happened last time and her eyes widened in shock. Ignoring his injuries, she grabbed his phone and asked anxiously, “How did you get your revenge? Jing Yan, you can’t do anything stupid!”
Jing Yan was afraid that she would open her wound, so he quickly explained, “Don’t worry, I’ve already handed him over to the police.”
He Miao heaved a sigh of relief, but based on her understanding of Jing Yan, she obviously did not believe that he only did just that one thing. Her slender fingers still clutched his sleeve, and she asked in a fit of pique, “What else did you do? Be honest and explain clearly!”
“Good, good, good.” Jing Yan nodded obediently, but he did not want to scare her, so he said vaguely, “I just had someone beat him up and let him suffer some injuries. Don’t worry, I’ll keep him alive and not let him die so easily.”
He Miao could hear the hatred in his words. She felt warm inside, but at the same time, she could not help but feel worried. He sighed and gently advised, “If you encounter such a thing again in the future, don’t be rash. I believe that our country’s laws will uphold justice for me. Don’t do it yourself, okay?”
“There won’t be such a thing in the future.” Jing Yan’s eyes flickered with ruthlessness. He would never tolerate He Miao being hurt again. He would never give anyone who dared to harm her a chance to do so.
He Miao could see the determination in his eyes. She pursed her lips and wanted to say something, but someone knocked on the door from outside.
Jing Yan guessed who it was. He got up and opened the door to let Chen Zhao in, who was carrying all kinds of supplements.
Chen Zhao walked into the ward, panting. He first asked He Miao about her well-being, then put the things in his hands against the wall. Seeing Jing Yan’s pale face, he could not help but say, “Miss He, you have to help me keep an eye on President Jing so that he eats all these blood tonics.”
