Chapter 232 - 232 The Slide
232 The Slide
He Miao suddenly stopped smiling and retracted her hand. She nodded coldly. “Okay, take Onion to the side and rest. I’ll come find you after I’m done.”
Jing Yan knew she was angry, but he could only nod helplessly. “We’ll wait for you over there.”
He Miao watched him leave and lowered her head in grievance. It was only when she finally stood at the front of the line that she managed to sort out her emotions and gathered her courage to walk to the top of the slide ladder with the board.
The staff member patiently explained the things to pay attention to and then helped her place the board. When she slowly adjusted her posture and sat down, he raised his hand to push her back and help her sit on the slide.
He Miao was on tenterhooks, but she could not wait for the staff member’s orders. He could not help but turn around and ask, “How can you… I’m not starting.” Before she could finish her question, He Miao’s words were stuck in her throat.
Behind her, Jing Yan was adjusting the board’s position and piecing it together with hers. When he was done, he sat behind He Miao and pulled her into his arms. He carefully whispered into her ear, “How can I not play with my Miaomiao? It was my fault just now, I apologize to you.”
“You…” Before He Miao could finish her sentence, the staff member behind her bent down and said with a smile, “Young couple, stop chatting. Get ready, I’ll push you down!”
Before He Miao could ask where Onion was, the staff pushed the two of them. The board slid down the two-meter high platform from the top of the slide and was followed by a long and fast ice track.
He Miao’s body curled up in panic, and she leaned against the chest of the person behind her. She only felt a scorching flame pressed against her back, which made her feel at ease for no reason.
Jing Yan sensed her fear and hugged her tighter, his chin still on her head. After running down the long slide, he covered her face with his arms and brought her into the snow pile at the end of the slide.
Jing Yan hugged He Miao and laughed. Seeing that the people behind them were about to rush over, he hurriedly stood up and carried her to a safe place in the snow to stabilize himself.
He Miao had never expected that the end of the ice slide would lead to a fall into the snow. She was stunned for a moment. If Jing Yan had not shielded her with his arm, her collar would have been filled with ice and snow.
While cleaning the snow off her clothes, Jing Yan explained to her with a smile, “If it wasn’t for the snow at the end, I’m afraid we would have crashed. Are you hurt from the fall?”
He Miao shook her head. After the initial shock, she was filled with joy. “I’m not that delicate. It’s quite fun.”
“Do you want to try again?” Jing Yan suggested.
He Miao shook her head repeatedly and pulled him to the side. She asked anxiously, “Where is Onion? Where did you put him?”
“He’s with the staff. It’s in a small house not far from the slide. I saw that there was a stove burning inside. It’s a warm place, so I left him there temporarily.” Jing Yan knew that she would be worried, so he patiently coaxed her and explained to her.
“Let’s go and get him. Onion is timid and doesn’t like to interact with strangers.” He Miao pulled him back to the small house next to the slide and knocked on the door politely. “Hello, sorry to trouble you. I’m here to pick up my dog.”
Inside the house, the woman was watching TV at the window of the board rental. She heard the sound and opened the door with a smile. “Your dog is so well-behaved, it has been squatting by the fire and didn’t bark at me.”
“Onion doesn’t bite people randomly.” He Miao picked up her puppy with a smile. After thanking the woman several times, she turned to Jing Yan and said, “Let’s just walk around. We won’t be playing the slide.”
“Alright,” he said. Jing Yan nodded. He saw a couple lining up to play on the slide, holding a board they had rented outside the gate. He suddenly remembered something and looked at He Miao helplessly. “We seem to have left the board in the snow. I have to go back and get it, or it’ll be too dangerous.”
“Then you should go.” He Miao had experienced that earlier. She knew that people who dove down from the slide would land in the snow. It would be dangerous if someone accidentally hit the board.
There was also a very high flight of steps to get back from there. It was inconvenient to bring Onion along, so He Miao did not offer to go with him. Instead, she chose to stand there and wait for him to come back.
After Jing Yan left, He Miao hugged Onion and stomped her feet in the cold. He was hesitating whether she should go into the small house to warm herself up when she suddenly saw a man in a green military coat walking over.
She instinctively wanted to avoid him, but her eyes met the man’s. The moment their eyes met, He Miao saw a strong hatred in his eyes.
