Chapter 220 - 220 Inexplicable Intimacy
220 Inexplicable Intimacy
On the first day of the new year, Jing Yan woke up early and went with He Miao to visit Old Master Jing.
In the room, Old Master Jing was wearing the new clothes that He Miao had bought the last time. He sat on the chair with a smile on his face as he watched his two most beloved children say the most auspicious New Year greetings to him.
Old Master Jing gave them red packets happily and waved his hand. “Go, you two young people go play by yourselves. Don’t mind this old man.”
“Grandpa, why don’t I stay and play chess with you?” He Miao suggested, worried that he would be bored if he stayed in the room alone.
Old Master Jing shook his head with a smile. “I don’t need you to accompany me. You can go and play on your own. Later, Li will come to the study with me to play chess.”
Butler Li had returned to the Jing family house to work early in the morning. He was still worried about the old man and was afraid that something might happen to him while he was away.
Jing Yan held He Miao’s hand and comforted her gently. “Don’t worry, let’s go watch a movie first. We’ll come back to have lunch with Grandpa later.”
“Alright, then.” He Miao lowered her eyes and reluctantly agreed.
Old Master Jing smiled happily. “That’s right, you guys just have fun. What’s the point of keeping me company?”
He got up and personally sent the two of them out of the room. Then, he stopped smiling and sat back in his chair in silence, staring at the photo in a daze.
Jing Yan took He Miao to the kitchen to heat up two glasses of milk and had the servants make popcorn before they went to the movie theater upstairs. He fiddled with the computer and picked a comedy and romance film to play.
In front of the big screen, He Miao sipped her milk and watched the movie attentively. However, the gazes around her were too intense, so she could not help but glance at them from the corner of her eye.
“Miaomiao.” Jing Yan inched closer to her face. When He Miao’s breath caught in his throat, he raised his hand and gently touched the corner of her lips. “Don’t move. It’s stained with popcorn.”
He Miao watched helplessly as his hand repeatedly rubbed her lips. After a long while, he finally took down a small piece of popcorn. She heaved a sigh of relief and said, “Thank you. I can do it myself next time.”
“What’s your plan for tomorrow?” Jing Yan retracted his hand and stared at her as he asked.
He Miao thought for a moment, then suddenly turned his head to look at him. “I want to go to Xu Meng’s house to pay a New Year’s visit, can I?”
Jing Yan pursed his lips and did not say anything. His expression clearly said no, but in the end, he said, “You can go anywhere you want.
Ever since he found out that He Miao would be out of the Jing family house for the whole day tomorrow, Jing Yan had become increasingly clingy.
After the movie, he dragged He Miao to the study to see Old Master Jing. On the way, they met Onion, who was running around the villa.
The puppy finally saw its master and wagged its tail excitedly at He Miao.
She bent down to pick up the puppy, but Jing Yan pouted in jealousy. He grabbed He Miao’s hand and refused to let go. “You can only look at me the whole day today. You’re not allowed to hold it.”
“Onion hasn’t seen me all morning.” He Miao patiently held his hand and explained to him.
Jing Yan bent down and gently picked up Onion’s ear. He said coldly, “Go back to your room. Your master is mine today.”
Onion seemed to understand him. It barked at him adorably, turned around, and ran back to it room while wagging his tail.
He Miao looked at Onion’s back in shock and then at Jing Yan. She asked curiously, “How did the two of you understand each other?”
Jing Yan frowned, thinking that her words were ambiguous. He said unhappily, “Are you scolding me?”
“No.” He Miao did not want him to misunderstand, so she shook his head and said, “Actually, Onion is afraid of strangers. He will be very fierce when he meets strangers, but he hasn’t been fierce to you since the first time he saw you. Instead, he seems to be very close to you.”
Recalling the reaction of Onion when Jing Yan visited He Miao in the past, He Miao realized that something was amiss.
Sometimes, Onion was even closer to Jing Yan than she was to him, not to mention other people.
Could it be that there was an inexplicable fate between Onion and Jing Yan that caused Onion to have a good impression of Jing Yan?
Hearing her words, Jing Yan’s heart was in his throat. He asked nervously, “What’s wrong with that?”
“It’s not bad, I just feel a little strange.” He Miao could not understand.
Seeing her distressed look, Jing Yan secretly held her hand and changed the topic. “Let’s go visit Grandpa first. Weren’t you worried that he would be bored?”
At the mention of Old Master Jing, He Miao’s attention was easily diverted. She immediately nodded and said, “Lunch should be ready soon. We can go get Grandpa and Butler Li to come down for lunch.”
At the door of the study, He Miao and Jing Yan were about to knock when they heard an old voice coming from inside.
Old Master Jing sighed and said in a sad tone, “My body is getting weaker by the day. I should be able to go and accompany my wife soon.”
