Chapter 42 - Hope, An Ox Carriage
Chapter 42: Hope, An Ox Carriage
After dealing with Chunyan and having breakfast, Mo Qianxue went to the kitchen to help them for some time and counsel sister Fang some important matters. Then she went back to dress herself in preparation for the land purchase at the dock.
“Qianxue, do you need my accompany?” Ning Shaoqing took over the hairpin in Mo Qianxue’s hand and helped insert it in her hair.
Facing the bronze mirror, they saw two figures in it, one delicate and the other gentle with insivible sizzling chemistry between them.
Mo Qianxue smiled. Certainly, she wished that Ning Shaoqing could accompany her, but she felt it too brusque to agree readily, so she pretended, “Later, you need to go to school. I shouldn’t bother you.”
Being rejected, Ning Shaoqing’s hand which was holding the hairpin paused for a second, and his face changed a bit and forced a bad-looking smile, “Al…alright, take care of yourself.”
After saying that, Ning Shaoqing turned around and got out of the room.
What? He just left like this? Mo Qianxue’s lingering happiness was defeated by disappointment. Couldn’t he ask twice with more sincerity?
When Mo Qianxue walked out to the living room, she found Ning Shaoqing already out of the house, and her mood instantly dropped to the bottom. The winter sun above was warm but the wind was cold to penetrate into her heart and lungs.
No hope, no disappointment!
It was like a little girl who was playing carefreely. Then a clown came over and gave her a balloon, which made her even happier. But then a gust of wind broke the rope of the balloon in a wink and the balloon floated up to the sky. The little girl holding the half rope in her hand cried for a whole day.
Mo Qianxue found that she herself was the poor little girl.
Slowly walked through the yard, she opened the door in a down mood and then closed it.
She just turned over when a person came forward, giving her a fright.
“Mrs. Ning, here you are.” Mo Qianxue knew this person. He was Liu Laoshuan.
His youngest son was Ning Shaoqing’s student. When Ning Shaoqing fell ill, Liu Laoshuan had taken his son Liu Baoqiang to visit him for several times, so Mo Qianxue was grateful to this person and told Ning Shaoqing that this man was a good person, so if possible, take more care of his child.
Coming back to the earth, Mo Qianxue quickly adjust her expression to normal, “Oh, brother Liu. Good morning.”
“Yes, yes, good morning.” Liu Laoshuan looked shy and gave her an awkward smile, “Mrs. Ning, please get on board. Don’t blame me for this simple ox carriage.”
“Ah?” Mo Qianxue was a little confused.
“Mr. Ning has told me a few days ago to take you to the dock today. I came early in the morning so that you won’t get there late.”
Liu Laoshuan said respectfully in a manner the same with how he treated Mr. Ning.
Mo Qianxue was dumbfounded. Just now she secretly hated Ning Shaoqing for leaving like that. Didn’t he know that she was out for important business today? Didn’t he know he should encourage her?
However, it turned out that he had arranged everything for her long before. Instantly, Mo Qianxue flushed. The chilly wind in her heart also turned into flowing warmth. The smile on her lips found it hard to hold back.
Liu Laoshuan didn’t know what was in her mind and only felt Mrs. Ning’s smile beautiful.
In Wang village, only brother Zhang had a horse carriage, but his wife wasn’t an easy-going person and he himself was so hen-pecked that Mo Qianxue didn’t dare to take a ride alone on their horse carriage.
She remembered last time when she hired their carriage to send the root sculpture to the city. When they got back, sister Zhang’s creepy eyes had screened her from head to toe like X rays. No wonder sister Guihua would bow her head and run away as soon as she saw her.
Although Mo Qianxue didn’t fear that woman and had looked back at her in the same way, she didn’t want to accept the X-ray baptism again.
The ox carriage was satisfactory enough. And she knew sister Liu who was also a kind person.
The ox carriage was very clean. It could be seen that it had been washed beforehand. Sitting in the comfortable carriage, Mo Qianxue exclaimed to herself the kindness of villagers.
After Mo Qianxue got on board, Liu Laoshuan immediately jumped to sit on the edge of the carriage, waving the whip, and headed for the dock.
Only after the ox carriage ran far in the horizon did an elegant person paced out from behind the big tree in Ning’s yard.
Heaven knew what drug he was on that he should voluntarily ask to accompany her and specially informed the school children to take a day off.
Yet, this foolish woman not only showed no happiness on her face but also turned him down immediately, leaving no room for him to continue the request.
Would he lose her face that she refused him like that? Ning Shaoqing started at the ox carriage yond, with complex fickle expression, he finally bit his teeth and decided to follow up.
The cold poison within his body was suppressed by the medicine, so now he was able to use twenty percent of his martial art. It was tiring for him to follow from a distance.
On the dull way, Mo Qianxue began to chat with Liu Laoshuan.
Actually, it was not chatting. Basically, it was Mo Qianxue asking questions and Liu Laoshuan answering them.
Soon, they arrived at Tianyou Dock. Liu Laoshuan parked the ox carriage, saying shily that he had to watch the ox, so he could accompany her to the dock, but he would wait her here.
Liu Laoshuan’s words were sincere. Thinking of the long rough road in the mountain forest, Mo Qianxue swallowed her words of refusing and walked to the dock after thanking him.
It was the first day that Tianyou dock was open for investment. The site was quite lively.
It could be counted as a medium-sized dock because the Doingjing River was wide and deep to accommodate large ships and the place connected to nine cities. Therefore, thought it just finished the construction, there were already many ships parking there for the upload and download of goods.
However, because the construction was just completed, the place was now in a mess, though there already built eight warehouses and six trestles and there were long boards connecting trestles and ground on which ten porters wearing short shirts were carrying all kinds of goods going up and down on unplanned paths.
The paths leading to and out of the trestles weren’t separated, so on one single path, there were people getting up and down. Accidentally, even one porter was bumped off into the water along with the goods he was carrying.
The cargo owner flustered at once. Several people in charge hasted over. Luckily the porter could swim, so after a few stroking of water, he climbed onto the ground, but the goods were soaked.
