Chapter 115 - Your Best Is Not Good Enough!
Bai Fen poured tea for herself from the ceramic tea jug on the table as she asked, "You called me out today, and I guess it's something important, what is it?"
Fu Hee rubbed her palms on her laps nervously before looking straight at her. She didn't know how to start explaining things, but she knew the earlier she confessed, the better it would be for both parties because she had dragged things out for too long.
"Bai Fen, I don't know how to say this, but please you have to trust me." Fu Hee with a helpless gazee.
Bai Fen felt that something was wrong, and as she felt a bad premonition, she stopped smiling as her face turned serious.
"What happened?" She asked.
"Bai Fen, I will really have to disappoint you as I have no choice. That after our last meeting, I went home to talk to Fu Hua only to learn from my father-in-law that he already had someone arranged for Fu Hua, so he asked me to cancel the arrangements I made with you since he had already found a wife for my son." Fu Hee disclosed with a guilty look.
"Fu Hee, I don't understand a word that you're trying to say to me. Are you trying to tell me you want to dissolve our agreement because Old Fu arranged a woman for your son?!" Bai Fen asked with a fierce gaze
She was truly angry now and couldn't hide that fact.
"I know you are angry and disappointed with me, but the matter is out of my hands." Fu Hee said as she tried to grab her hand, but Bai Fen dodged her touch.
"As Fu Hua's mother, are you saying that you don't have any right to choose a partner for your son?" Bai Fen asked with a smile that was not a smile.
Fu Hee's facial expression turned ugly as she narrated the embarrassment she faces from trying to oppose the old man.
"Fen, you don't know what happened that day. When I was confronting the old man in his study about his decision to get Fu Hua married to the woman he chose, I tried to exercise my right as Fu Hua's mother, but that old man splashed me with his calligraphy ink, embarrassing me in front of the servants. That's not all, he sent his Butler to ask me to pay up for the ink he splashed on me, or I wouldn't be allowed to have dinner. So, I had no choice but to pay for the expensive ink."
Bai Fen wanted to pity her, but she couldn't, because she still couldn't accept that the marriage between her daughter and the son from the Fu family couldn't pull through.
'No, I have to find a way to make this work. My daughter has to get into the Fu family, and she must marry Fu Hua!' Bai Fen thought.
"Fu Hee, I know you've tried your best, but I am still not satisfied with it. I will have to talk to my mother-in-law about this, so we can visit Old General Fu and talk about this matter again." Bai Fen said with her gaze fixed on Fu Hee.
Her gaze says that she was not going to back down so easily.
"It's too late Bai Fen, it's too late. Nothing can be done now." Fu Hee replied as she shook her head in regret.
Bai Fen looked confused and annoyed at the same time as she asked, "What do you mean it's too late? You should be thinking of ways to remedy the situation, so what do you mean by these words now?"
Fu Hee looked up at her, sighed, and then explained her words, "Fu Hua had already gotten married to that girl, so nothing can be done."
"What?! What do you mean?!" Bai Fen asked angrily as stood to her feet with a fierce gaze directed at her.
"Sshhh... calm down and stop shouting." Fu Hee said to her as she tried to drag her to sit back on her chair, but Bai Fen flung her hand away.
Right now, Bai Fen was very angry and her chest felt a tight constriction. She felt her head hurt.
She couldn't believe that all the calculations and plans she made would go down the drain like that. She will never accept that fact!
"Do you think I am in the mood to care about my image now? Fu Hee, how could you hide this from me?! I thought we were friends, but look at the way you treat your good friend! How am I going to explain things to my daughter? That girl has been in love with Fu Hua since we both gave her that idea, and now you want to break her fragile heart to pieces? I won't let that happen. Your Fu family must give us the Bai family an explanation." Bai Fen said while pointing at Fu Hee.
Fu Hee's on the other hand looked disturbed with Bai Fen's actions and words.
"Bai Jun, it's all my fault, but I really did try to salvage the situation, but you've heard what happened." Fu Hee said with a frown.
"Your best is not good enough. You made me lose so much a golden opportunity to match Bai Jun with the son of the current minister. If you didn't mention this, I would have secured a promising future for my daughter, but look what you've caused, I have lost all the chances." Bai Fen said angrily.
Although Bai Fen shouldn't blame Fu Hee because she was the one that intentionally gave her that idea, but she just couldn't be happy that such a golden opportunity to be connected to the Fu Family by marriage would slip out of her hands just like that after all the efforts she managed to put in.
Fu Hee was feeling guilty deep down in her heart, but she was also angry with Bai Fen for being too harsh with her words.
Fu Hee could only blame herself for looking for trouble in the first place, so she had to explain her true situation so the blame wouldn't be on her anymore.
