In a dense forest on the slope of a mountain, two handsome young men were making their way forward in the dark.

“Can’t we at least light an oil lamp?”

“No, we’ll be discovered!”

“We’re not even halfway up the mountain yet, how could anyone notice us from so far away?”

“Don’t underestimate the skills of Sword Lodge disciples.”

“Humph, those Sword Lodge dogs. Who knows, maybe my sister’s already slaughtered them all!”

Gu Chengfeng gave him a helpless side glance.

Gu Yan asked, “What? Did I say something wrong?”

Gu Chengfeng replied, “Fine, fine, you’re right, you’re always right. But still, until we’re absolutely certain nothing can go wrong, we should stay cautious. I don’t mind for myself, but you don’t know martial arts. If someone really shows up, I’m afraid you won’t be able to escape!”

“Humph!” Gu Yan turned his face away.

Gu Chengfeng admonished him again, “Later when we see your sister, don’t you dare say I was the one who brought you here!”

Gu Yan crossed his arms. “I know, I’ll just say I ran into you on the way.”

But JiaoJiao would never believe that.

You’re going to get beaten.

Even though I was the one who insisted on coming.

Gu Chengfeng looked ahead. “Hey, there seems to be a little bamboo hut up there. I’ll go check it out first, you wait here and don’t follow——”

Before the word “follow” even finished leaving his lips, Gu Chengfeng realized Gu Yan had already slipped behind a large tree, leaving him behind.

…Well, that worked too.

Inside the small bamboo hut there wasn’t a single person. Gu Chengfeng let out two cuckoo calls, the signal for everything being safe.

Gu Yan revealed himself and walked over.

Gu Chengfeng said, “No one’s here. Let’s head to the mountain villa.”

“Alright.” Gu Yan nodded. He turned around and stepped forward, but the moment his foot landed, something shifted. Suddenly, the ground cracked open beneath them, and the two of them, completely unprepared, plunged down.

……

Long Yi pursued the shadow all the way to the council chamber of the Hidden Sword Manor.

The main hall of the council chamber was vast and open. On either side, candle stands held great flames that burned and leapt, though they were not bright; buffeted by the night wind, they swayed and flickered, resembling ghostly fire of the seventh lunar month.

At the top of the steps directly facing the entrance stood a broad zitan-wood chair.

Upon it sat an elder in a gray-white robe overlaid with a gold-threaded gauze garment, his face masked, his presence exuding an oppressive dignity. His aura did not leak out at all, this was the supreme realm of martial mastery.

Within the entire Sword Lodge, besides Long Yi, only the Sect Leader surnamed Rong had reached this realm.

Inside the main hall, the Sect Leader sat alone.

Long Yi’s gaze was as cold as ice as he stared at him, gripping tightly the Black Moon sword in his hand.

Sect Leader Rong smiled faintly and said, “Shi Tian, you’ve finally come.”

Long Yi’s eyes brimmed with boundless hatred and fury. “Hand them over.”

The Sect Leader’s smile faded slightly. “After all these years apart, you won’t even call me Master anymore?”

Long Yi’s hand tightened even more on his sword hilt.

The Sect Leader’s smile turned warm again. “They are safe for now, you can rest assured. I did not expect that after leaving the island all these years, you would even make a few friends. For your master, that is quite gratifying.”

At this moment, Gu Jiao and Xiao Heng were in fact sitting right behind Sect Leader Rong, hidden behind a carved wooden screen.

A Sword Lodge expert in black robes was guarding them; it had been this very man who had brought them here earlier.

Xiao Heng’s acupoints had been sealed, while Gu Jiao, still unconscious, had been left alone for the time being.

But in truth, Gu Jiao had already awakened.

She had heard Long Yi’s voice.

So this is what Long Yi sounds like when he speaks.

How wonderful, Long Yi can speak now.

The one calling himself “Master” must be the Sect Leader of the Sword Lodge.

Sect Leader Rong said with a smile, “I heard that you went to Sword Lodge Island not long ago. Unfortunately, I had some matters to attend to and could not remain on the island to wait for you.”

At these words, both Gu Jiao and Xiao Heng understood. The massacre on Sword Lodge Island had indeed been orchestrated by the Sword Lodge itself.

In order to deceive Long Yi and the Hidden Night Sect, they had gone to great lengths, even sacrificing so many disciples.

Sect Leader Rong continued, “Shi Tian, there is no enmity between you and me. As long as you are willing to behave as before and obediently call me Master, I can overlook your transgressions.”

Long Yi said, “I will say this once more, hand them over.”

His tone was calm, yet in reality his emotions were in violent turmoil; Gu Jiao could feel it even through the wooden partition.

It was a storm of burning hatred mingled with the bitterness of humiliation.

Long Yi had never displayed such emotions before, not even when he crossed swords with the detestable An Hun.

Could it be… that the Sect Leader of the Sword Lodge had once done something unforgivable to Long Yi?

……

The moonlight was bright and clear, and a black-canopied boat was moored by the rocks of a canyon.

The towering cliffs of the gorge blocked out the endless night sky, and even the surface of the water reflected not the slightest gleam.

At a glance, it looked like a bottomless black pool.

Xuanyuan Qi sat alone on the deck, holding in his hand the wolf fang jade pendant he had taken from around his neck.

Liao Chen stepped out from the cabin of the black-canopied boat and sat down beside his father. Looking at him, he asked, “Father, are you still thinking about Shi Tian?”

Xuanyuan Qi let out a sigh. “I never expected that on this trip to Sword Lodge, we would end up encountering Shi Tian.”

Liao Chen said, “I once saw him in Shengdu. He called himself Long Yi, and he was a friend of Ah Heng and JiaoJiao. I have never crossed hands with him, nor spoken with him. Is his martial skill still as formidable as it was twenty years ago?”

Xuanyuan Qi replied, “Far stronger than it was twenty years ago.”

Liao Chen looked at him with worry. “Father, you weren’t injured, were you?”

Xuanyuan Qi straightened his chest. “I too… am very formidable.”

Liao Chen: “……”

“How is Rong Yue?” Xuanyuan Qi asked.

Liao Chen said, “His life is truly hardy. He took a palm strike from Long Yi, and yet still managed to crawl back with half a life.”

This encounter with Long Yi had been entirely accidental.

It seemed that Long Yi had been hunting down the people of Sword Lodge.

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
