The three people boarded the snow carriage pulled by twenty icefield wolves. Chang Jing stood at the front, Marquis Xuanping sat in the middle, and Ye Qing sat at the rear.

Chang Jing tightened the reins. “Hold on. We’re moving.”

Ye Qing answered calmly, “Okay.”

The next second, a gust of freezing wind blasted into him, contorting his face into the perfect image of a sorrowful meme frog!

The snow carriage shot forward at incredible speed, leaving their bodies behind while their souls seemed frozen in place.

Even Marquis Xuanping felt that this thing was way too intense.

“Holy shit!”

It was even more thrilling than being flown away by Long Yi.

Chang Jing, who had grown up with this, remained perfectly composed. He steered the snow carriage with seamless coordination between himself and the icefield wolves.

He even remembered to warn the two behind him, “Close your eyes. Staring at the snow for too long can lead to snow blindness.”

Ye Qing was already beyond saving.

Are we sure this is a snow carriage and not some kind of flying vehicle?

I’m worried I might not make it back alive…

In order to cross the icefield before the blizzard hit, Chang Jing hardly took any rest at all, but the icefield wolves needed time to recover their strength. While the wolves recuperated, Chang Jing would go hunting nearby with Ye Qing.

At night, they stayed in a hastily set-up tent.

The temperatures on the icefield were bitterly cold, but fortunately, all of them were trained in martial arts, their constitutions far beyond that of ordinary people, so they were able to endure it.

Such days continued for a full seven days.

On the evening of the seventh day, the group finally saw an island rising from the pale blue ice layer.

“It’s already frozen over. Perfect timing.” Chang Jing said to Marquis Xuanping and Ye Qing. “Otherwise, we’d have to swim there.”

Ye Qing’s mouth twitched. “There’s no boat?”

Chang Jing replied, “To prevent anyone from leaving the island in the deep of winter, all boats in the area are removed starting in the tenth month.”

The group slid across the thick ice sheet in the snow carriage.

The ice seemed to have only recently formed; in some places, it was too thin, and long cracks snaked across the surface as the snow carriage passed over them.

Marquis Xuanping remembered that they had passed several lakes on their way here. He wondered if those were frozen over now too.

If they were, it meant he wouldn't have to detour on the return trip, which would save a great deal of time.

As the snow carriage reached the edge of the island, more than a dozen guards stormed out from within, bows drawn and arrows aimed squarely at them.

The leader barked sharply, “Who dares trespass on Hidden Night Island!”

Ye Qing immediately felt a powerful wave of pressure; their aura alone made it clear that these were no ordinary guards. Each one radiated strength that was simply terrifying.

Chang Jing pulled off the hood of his cloak and looked up at the man, saying, “Uncle Ling, it’s me.”

“Little Jing?” The middle-aged man addressed as Uncle Ling was stunned. He lowered his bow and took a long look at Chang Jing, his eyes widening with emotion. “Good heavens, it really is Little Jing! You’ve finally come back! You've been gone for years, our Sect Leader was worried sick! I’ll send someone to inform your father immediately! He’ll be thrilled to hear you’ve returned!”

Chang Jing lowered his eyes and let out a long sigh.

Uncle Ling moved swiftly, but the Sect Leader of Hidden Night Island, Chang Kun, moved even faster.

Just as the three had stepped onto the island, Chang Kun arrived with a roar of power like a dragon soaring through the heavens!

Chang Jing was the youngest son born to Chang Kun in his old age. Though older than Old Chief, Chang Kun was still a towering figure; white-haired, yet full of vigor, his internal strength fathomless.

He landed steadily in front of Chang Jing, and when he saw the youth, now almost eighteen years old, he clenched his fists tightly.

Ye Qing whispered to Marquis Xuanping, “Chang Jing ran away from home and hasn’t been back in three years. You think his father’s going to break his legs? He looks really mad.”

Of course Chang Kun was furious, and his killing aura was enough to shake heaven and earth.

Just when Ye Qing thought Chang Jing was about to get slapped and sent flying by his father, Chang Kun suddenly pulled his son into a tight embrace.

“My sweet little boy! You’ve finally come home! Where have you been all these years? Your father searched so hard for you! I thought I’d never see you again!”

Chang Kun broke down sobbing.

Ye Qing: “…”

Just as the teary reunion between father and son was reaching its peak, seven women darted over, their movements light and swift like swallows in flight.

Every one of them was a master of qinggong, the oldest nearly forty, the youngest over twenty, all of them with delicate and graceful features.

The seven women swarmed around the father and son, pulling out handkerchiefs and bursting into tears one after another.

“Little brother, where have you been all these years? This eldest sis missed you so much…”

“Second sis missed you to death too…”

“Third sis cleaned your room every day, hoping you’d return…”

“Look at me, your fourth sis’ starved herself skinny waiting for you…” The fourth sister sobbed and then hiccupped, clearly not as skinny as claimed.

Ye Qing’s mouth twitched again.

These seven women… were all actually Chang Jing’s biological older sisters?

After being hugged by his father, Chang Jing was then swarmed by his seven crying sisters. Their sobbing was even more intense than their father’s, and Chang Jing, like a puppet drained of soul, was passed from sister to sister, pulled and clutched in turn.

Chang Jing’s mother had passed away not long after giving birth to him. Though he had no mother’s love, having seven sisters more than made up for the trouble.

“Tell eldest sis, who was it that abducted you and kept you from coming home to see us all these years?!”

The eldest sister reacted the fastest. She simply didn’t believe that her little brother had been wandering alone for three years.

Marquis Xuanping’s heart gave a jolt. No way… they actually guessed that?!

Chang Jing turned his head and looked toward Marquis Xuanping.

All seven sisters, along with his biological father, turned in unison to stare straight at Marquis Xuanping!

Without changing expression, Marquis Xuanping let out a soft sigh and said, “You celestial maidens are absolutely right. Chang Jing was indeed abducted. I happened to rescue him midway, and fearing that the culprits might come after him again, I decided to personally escort him home.”

“He called us celestial maidens!”

“Finally, someone who speaks the truth. he must be a sincere and honest man.”

“That’s right!”

Ye Qing was dumbfounded. He couldn’t tell who had the thickest skin among them anymore.

Chang Jing raised a brow and gave a smirk.

Marquis Xuanping: One box of bouncing marbles.

Chang Jing: No. I want two. One enamel, one glass.

Marquis Xuanping: That’s the most expensive kind! And don’t you already have a glass marble set? I just bought it for you!

Chang Jing turned to Chang Kun and said sweetly, “Father——”

Marquis Xuanping clenched his fists in agony, heart bleeding, yet he forced a small, agreeable smile on his face.

Deal!

“That’s right, that’s what happened.” Chang Jing said to his father and sisters.

Chang Kun erupted in fury. “Who dares lay a hand on my son and abduct him?!”

Chang Jing glanced at Marquis Xuanping, arching a brow: Five boxes of marbles, and I’ll say it was the Sword Lodge.

Marquis Xuanping, who had never imagined that one day he would be extorted by Little Chang Jing of all people: “……!!”

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
