“Someone from the Hidden Night Sect?” Zhu Zhangkuang was even more surprised now. The Hidden Night Sect had always remained aloof from the affairs of the six states, more reclusive than even the Tang Sect. Why would someone from such a sect be involved with the Xuanyuan Family?
If it were merely a matter of helping the Xuanyuan Family, that would be one thing, and Gongsun Yu might not be so rattled. But Chang Jing had shown up together with that man from the State of Zhao.
And more importantly, Chang Jing clearly listened to that man’s every word.
The imperial court of the State of Jin had tried more than once to win over the Hidden Night Sect, but each time, they had been flatly rejected.
It left him puzzled. How could a man from a weaker state possibly win over the young master of the mighty Hidden Night Sect?
Chang Jing glanced at Zhu Zhangkuang, then turned to Liao Chen and said, “I’ll take care of this guy.”
Liao Chen and Chang Jing had never met before, but Liao Chen had conducted some secret investigations on Marquis Xuanping and was therefore aware of who Chang Jing was, though he certainly hadn’t expected him to be that Chang Jing from the Hidden Night Sect.
“Alright.” Liao Chen nodded.
Chang Jing was already something of a martial arts prodigy. And after spending the past few years at Marquis Xuanping’s side, receiving frequent guidance from him, his cultivation had advanced by leaps and bounds.
Zhu Zhangkuang truly couldn’t match him.
He was utterly crushed by Chang Jing. After exchanging only a few dozen moves, Zhu Zhangkuang was left soaked in blood. Though none of the wounds were fatal, the sheer mess of it all was humiliating enough to deal a heavy blow to morale.
His eyes flickered, and he taunted, “The young master of the Hidden Night Sect colluding with the Xuanyuan Family… does your sect leader know about this?”
Chang Jing’s movements paused for a moment.
Seeing a chance, Zhu Zhangkuang pressed the advantage. “Just as I thought, you ran away without your sect leader’s knowledge, didn’t you? If he finds out, you’ll be in deep trouble!”
He was trying to scare Chang Jing into backing down.
Chang Jing frowned, giving it some serious thought. He felt that what Zhu Zhangkuang said made a lot of sense. He gave a small grunt and said, “You’re right. I really can’t let my father find out. So… today, you must die.”
Zhu Zhangkuang’s eyes bulged in disbelief.
Wait, what the hell? That’s not what I meant!
“And him too.” Chang Jing added, glancing over at Gongsun Yu who was locked in fierce combat with Liao Chen. “He must die as well. None of you are leaving here alive.”
Zhu Zhangkuang was on the verge of breaking down.
Seriously?! How does a kid this young have such terrifying clarity of thought?
What kind of world is this, where even trying to manipulate a teenager doesn't work anymore?
Among the four fierce generals of Gongsun Yu, Zhu Zhangkuang had the hardest fists, but he also cherished his own life the most. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have held back so much when attacking Xuanyuan Qi back then.
Even Yue Liuyi was braver than he was.
But with his lord present, Zhu Zhangkuang didn’t dare to flee. He could only grit his teeth and keep exchanging blows with Chang Jing.
If only he hadn’t opened his mouth.
The kid had already been fighting seriously before, but now he was fighting to kill.
Zhu Zhangkuang’s body took several more injuries.
On the other side, Liao Chen and Gongsun Yu were still evenly matched. Gongsun Yu had, after all, trained in martial arts for many more years than Liao Chen. His internal force and battle experience far surpassed what the younger man could muster.
But the murderous resolve within Liao Chen’s heart, combined with his exceptional talent, meant he was destined to be a formidable opponent for Gongsun Yu.
After exchanging over a dozen moves, Gongsun Yu gradually began to feel the pressure mounting.
Especially with the blade wound left by Marquis Xuanping; each clash strained the injury further, tearing at it mercilessly.
If this continued, he wouldn’t die in battle but bleed to death.
Liao Chen, meanwhile, carried no burden about “fighting fair.”
After all, when Gongsun Yu killed Xuanyuan Sheng, didn’t he do it with the help of information leaked by the Nangong Family?
And when he went after Liao Chen’s father, didn’t he send people to wear him down first with a series of rotating attacks?
Then why should he still play by the rules of the martial world with Gongsun Yu!
Liao Chen struck Gongsun Yu squarely in the chest with a palm strike!
Gongsun Yu’s armor was made of special materials and could withstand a great deal of damage, only it had already been pierced by Marquis Xuanping!
Liao Chen’s internal force surged through the crack in the armor and seeped directly into his internal organs!
Gongsun Yu quickly gathered his own internal force to shield his vitals, then thrust his sword toward Liao Chen once more!
But because part of his internal force was diverted to protecting himself, the power behind the strike was significantly reduced.
Liao Chen deflected it with ease!
The two exchanged over a dozen more moves. Liao Chen’s armor was not as sturdy as Gongsun Yu’s, and he took a few slashes from Gongsun Yu’s sword qi.
“We’re leaving!” Gongsun Yu barked at Zhu Zhangkuang.
Zhu Zhangkuang feinted an attack, then leapt into the air, only to be kicked back down hard by Chang Jing, who flew even faster than he did!
“Zhu Zhangkuang!” Gongsun Yu shouted in midair as he turned his head back.
Zhu Zhangkuang extended a hand and yelled, “My Lord, don’t worry about me! Go! I can handle this brat!”
Gongsun Yu gritted his teeth and used his qinggong to flee.
Liao Chen launched himself forward, chasing after him.
Zhu Zhangkuang turned his head toward Chang Jing, and without hesitation, he declared, “I surrender.”
Chang Jing: “…?!”
……
After leaving the forest, Gongsun Yu heard the sound of horns coming from the western gate, telling him that the State of Yan had recaptured the west gate!
Pucheng could no longer hold out…
He fired a signal flare to call for retreat, then knocked out a Yan soldier who had come to provide reinforcements and stole his horse.
Originally, he had planned to make his escape via the east gate, but Liao Chen forced him to flee toward the south gate instead.
Liao Chen had also borrowed a horse from Tang Yueshan, who had brought troops from Ghost Mountain.
Tang Yueshan had gone behind a tree to relieve himself, and when he came back to find two horses missing, he was left completely baffled.
Liao Chen gave relentless chase.
Gongsun Yu tried multiple times to shake him off, but all his efforts were in vain.
This Xuanyuan heir’s strength and perseverance were far beyond anything he had anticipated…
Over a decade had passed, and yet instead of fading into obscurity, the Xuanyuan Family had kept a low profile and grown stronger in secret?
If he hadn’t been stabbed by the Abyss King, this guy wouldn’t stand a chance against him…
Damn that Abyss King!
Years ago, Gongsun Ling had fallen at his hands!
And now, he himself had suffered a humiliating setback at the hands of that same man!
Once he dealt with Xuanyuan Zheng, he would make sure to kill the Abyss King!
The more Gongsun Yu thought about it, the angrier he became. For a moment, his attention wavered, and when he turned back, he realized Liao Chen was no longer behind him, but had veered off into a side alley.
Gongsun Yu furrowed his brow and spurred his horse to a faster gallop.
But in the very next instant, Liao Chen shot out from another alley, charging directly at him!
Liao Chen had gathered every ounce of his strength into a single, all-out attack, leaving Gongsun Yu with no chance to evade.
Gongsun Yu’s eyes flickered in alarm. What is this guy doing? Is he trying to die with me?!
Liao Chen also knew that with his current strength, even though Gongsun Yu was injured, it would still be extremely difficult to kill him.
But Gongsun Yu had to die!
If he lived, then despite all of today’s efforts, the Jin army could still have a chance to reverse the situation!
So even if it meant mutual destruction, Liao Chen would not hesitate!
Gongsun Yu roared in fury, “You’re insane! You can’t kill me!”
Liao Chen’s eyes were filled with unwavering resolve. “But if I wound you severely, then the next Yan soldier will be able to kill you.”
In that moment, Gongsun Yu finally understood the true meaning of the Xuanyuan spirit.
It was never about the strength of one person alone.
It was the indomitable will forged by all of them together!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
