Chapter 525: Chapter 525: A Smackdown with Strength (7)
Autumn Rhodes was the vice president of the student council and the reigning campus belle of Veridia University. A true great beauty who combined looks and talent, she was understandably a little proud.
She was a year behind Damian Yale. After seeing him once and being utterly stunned by his good looks, she had joined the student council. She had been pursuing Damian for a year now—an open secret at Veridia University.
Damian Yale said coolly, "They’ve worked hard these past few days. Staring at a pretty girl isn’t a major offense, so there’s no need to criticize him."
Autumn Rhodes chuckled. "You’re right, President. After all, there aren’t many guys in this world as calm and self-possessed as you, unmoved by a pretty face."
Damian Yale glanced at her but said nothing. He was well aware of Autumn Rhodes’ feelings for him, of course. She was an outstanding girl, but he just wasn’t interested. He had already rejected her outright, yet she didn’t seem to care and continued to show up by his side every day.
Autumn Rhodes asked him, "President, are you waiting here today to get a look at that new student, Vera Xavier?"
Damian Yale didn’t answer, but Autumn Rhodes was already smiling as she said, "I’m curious about her too. After all, she got a perfect score on every subject. Let’s just hope she isn’t a ’frog princess.’"
The "frog princess" inside joke came from a story Damian Yale had once written, referring to girls who were unattractive yet still hoped to win a prince’s affection.
Damian Yale gave a noncommittal response. He hadn’t even seen her yet; saying anything would be pointless.
Vera Xavier was oblivious to their conversation. She had noticed Connor Kander and his group of friends exclaiming and causing a commotion, but she had no idea she was the reason for it.
Perhaps because she had been reborn, she saw these students as little boys. She just found them cute, full of youthful energy and pleasant to look at.
As she drew closer, Autumn Rhodes saw her and said to Damian Yale with a smile, "That new student is actually quite pretty. No wonder Connor Kander and his friends are making such a fuss. It looks like once she’s settled in, even if she’s just a pretty face, she’ll have a horde of guys chasing after her."
Damian Yale glanced at Vera Xavier, his expression still indifferent. A faint smile was his only acknowledgment of Autumn Rhodes’ comment.
To him, it didn’t matter how beautiful the girl in front of him was; it had nothing to do with him. He was more concerned with whether the Vera Xavier who got a perfect score had arrived.
The commotion was starting to annoy him, and he was about to step aside to rest for a moment when, just then, Vera Xavier happened to look in his direction.
Their eyes met. Vera happened to blink at that exact moment. He was a little surprised, his brow furrowed slightly. ’Another lovesick fool!’ He turned his head, not deigning to give her another look.
Over the years, most girls at school would get that same starstruck look whenever they saw him. The reason was simple: not only did he have excellent grades and strong all-around skills, but he was also exceptionally handsome, with sharp, striking features.
The truth was, Vera had only glanced at him a second time because he was more handsome than the other guys around. ’So what’s with that scornful look? I was just acting on the principle that it’s a crime not to look at a handsome guy. Does he really have to be so stingy?’
’Besides, I’ve seen a man like Nathaniel Nathan—handsome, stylish, and utterly charismatic. There’s no way I’d be interested in this guy! As for looks, he’s not even as handsome as Alistair Forrest. I’m seriously not interested.’
