However, after Nathaniel Nathan’s return, Nolan Rowan noticed the atmosphere at the branch office was completely different. When Nathaniel was away, the team was like a sword, but not a particularly sharp one. The moment he came back, the entire branch was like a drawn blade, brimming with killing intent.
It was a break in training, and Nathaniel Nathan walked over to Nolan Rowan. "What have you been doing with the new recruits? They’ve all turned into a bunch of wimps!"
Nolan Rowan scoffed. "What have I been doing with them? I’m a special assistant, not a vice general manager! And you have the nerve to ask me that?"
Nathaniel Nathan replied nonchalantly, "Why wouldn’t I? It’s not like this is my branch office alone."
Nolan Rowan felt like talking to this guy would shave ten years off his life, so he turned his head, not bothering to respond.
But then he heard Nathaniel add, "Even though you’ve turned our branch into a pack of wimps, I’ll still make sure we’re the top branch in the company come the big October competition."
Nolan Rowan didn’t doubt that for a second. More importantly, he’d never thought their branch was full of wimps. Even as things stood, their combat readiness was still the best in the entire company.
But Nolan was still annoyed with him and said sullenly, "That’s your problem, not mine. If you lose, you’ll be the one who’s disgraced."
Nathaniel Nathan had always been a legend at the company. If the branch he led were to lose, it would be a massive joke to everyone else.
Nathaniel didn’t reply, so Nolan asked another question. "Why have you been taking so much time off this year?"
"Spending time with my wife," Nathaniel replied as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "A guy like you, with no wife, wouldn’t understand the fun in that."
Nolan immediately regretted asking. He was so furious he could have coughed up blood. ’Is having a wife such a big deal?! I’ll have one too, sooner or later!’
To most people, Nathaniel Nathan was cold and aloof, but as his partner, Nolan knew all too well that he was completely different from the rumors.
When Nathaniel decided to be shameless, even a gangster would be scared of him.
"So you’re really married, huh?" Nolan said with a grin. "In that case, the most beautiful flower in our company is going to be heartbroken."
"What does my marriage have to do with her?" Nathaniel asked, frowning.
Nolan stared at him for a long moment, then burst out laughing. "So, it turns out I’m not the most miserable person in this company after all."
It was no secret that Rowena Kirby, the company’s number one beauty, had a crush on Nathaniel Nathan. It was just that Nathaniel, the object of her affection, showed an astounding lack of interest in the matter, seeming completely oblivious.
Unwilling to let it go, Nolan pressed on, "Is your wife pretty?"
"Isn’t that a stupid question?" Nathaniel shot him a look. "I’m an exceptional man. Of course only the most beautiful woman in the world is good enough for me."
The corner of Nolan’s mouth twitched at his words. When this guy got narcissistic, it really left you speechless.
’Then again, he did have the right to be narcissistic,’ Nolan thought. ’A handsome face, an imposing physique, freakishly powerful abilities, and on top of all that, a prominent family background... every female creature in the entire company was crazy about him.’
Nolan asked, "Got a picture? Let me see what the most beautiful woman in the world looks like."
"Why would you want to see a picture of my wife?" Nathaniel said, his expression turning cold. "You’re not thinking of making a move on her, are you?"
Nolan: "..."
He was utterly speechless. ’All I wanted was to see a picture, did he really have to read so much into it? That bastard Nathaniel is way too protective of his wife!’
