Chapter 920 - 920 Apologized Against Their Will
920 Apologized Against Their Will
Yao Ran was confident that the advanced prototype of the drug was still Yang Ming’s priority. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have bothered saving her back then. Surely, whatever conversation he was currently having was meant to save her, too.
Unbeknownst to her, Yang Ming and President Meng had already reached an agreement.
The two men were even in high spirits over it.
As the head of the Yang family’s research institute, Yang Ming naturally focused more on the advantages that a certain prospect would bring to the company. If he joined hands with the Meng family, both businesses would reach the pinnacle of the industry.
So then, why wouldn’t he accept President Meng’s proposal?
He had no reason to refuse.
The call ended, and Yang Ming handed the phone to Madam Meng. A pleasant smile was plastered on his face, as if the scuffle earlier had never happened.
Madam Meng put the phone to her ear and heard President Meng’s voice. “Let her go.”
Overhearing this, Meng Ling whipped around in shock and gaped at her mother in disbelief.
Was this whole episode over just like that?
Were they going to release the thieving Yao Ran without punishment?
Meng Ling scoffed and rolled her eyes, then turned away from Yao Ran’s direction.
Needless to say, she was upset by this outcome. Sadly, she had no choice. It was her father’s order, after all. She couldn’t disobey his word, let alone protest it in front of everyone.
Madam Meng turned to Meng Chang and waved her hand. “Let her go.”
A look of surprise flashed across Meng Chang’s face, but he didn’t waste a second and immediately released Yao Ran.
As soon as she was free, Yao Ran let out a few mournful sobs.
She trotted over to Yang Ming, reaching out to tug at his sleeve. Yao Ran raised her pale, pitiful face and pursed her lips. “President Yang, these people are bullies. Did you see that? They covered my mouth and dragged me away like I was nothing more than a sack of potatoes!”
“It’s just a misunderstanding. Don’t take it to heart.”
Yang Ming was vague and evasive, wanting to let the matter go as soon as possible.
But Yao Ran was relentless. He pulled at her sleeve and cried harder. “We can’t let them off just like that! You must help me take revenge. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have been humiliated at my own family’s banquet.”
She had especially dressed up just to be the center of attention at the party.
But now, she had no way of knowing what kind of rumors were spreading about her. She had been taken away, after all, and the banquet hall had been littered with reporters. Her reputation would surely suffer for this.
Yao Ran refused to let the Meng family go without teaching them a lesson.
Unfortunately for her, Yang Ming was not interested in pursuing the issue. “Just forge it. The Meng family treated your leg, didn’t they? I think it’s best to forget all that happened today and move on with our lives.”
Like hell, he would jeopardize his newfound allegiance!
Besides, why should he defend Yao Ran? He himself had scores to settle with her for today’s fiasco!
If it wasn’t for the fact that she still had the data he needed to carry out his cooperation with the Meng family, Yang Ming would have handed her over to Madam Meng there and then.
Yao Ran scowled, her feigned sorrow turning into blatant anger. “You just don’t want to help me, do you? If you don’t stand up for me right now, don’t even think about getting that advanced drug! I will never give it to you!”
Yang Ming’s face shifted after hearing that.
He already detested Yao Ran as it was, but her threats made him loathe her even more. But for the sake of the drug, he was forced to ask Madam Meng and Meng Ling to apologize to Yao Ran.
Yang Ming turned to the mother and daughter and said, “Madam Meng, Miss Meng, I’m sure you’ve both heard everything just now. You’re in the wrong, so please apologize.”
“You!” Madam Meng exploded.
President Meng, who was still on the line, was quick to console his wife. “Just bear with it for now. Soon enough, you can beat her all you want.”
In order to achieve success, one had to suffer a few grievances along the way.
This concession was simply a pebble in the shoe. It was bearable and easily rid of at the right time.
Madam Meng swallowed her outrage and apologized to Yao Ran through gritted teeth. “Miss Yao, it seems that we didn’t think things through properly. Please accept our apologies for today’s incident.”
“I’m sorry,” Meng Ling also chimed in, her voice low and reluctant.
Yao Ran was immensely pleased to see them like this, especially since they all knew that they were unwilling. The corners of her mouth curled up into a smirk.
